Doug was extremely knowledgeable, safe, and all around fun.I can't wait to climb with him again and would highly recommend Mountain Skills, even if your a relatively experienced climber.I know I learned a lot from the experience.

Just now getting around to a review, but I had a great time with Mountain Skills Climbing Guides this summer! I was an experienced climber lacking trad skills and my guide Tim took me on some super fun classic routes, a little multi-pitch, and some top-rope burnouts on an 11c. Great mix of stuff and all in a half day! One of the best guiding services for value as well, from my research.Meeting up was easy, and the team had a bunch of gear for use (even climbing shoes, though I recommend packing your own if you have them). Felt super safe the whole time and got some sweet pictures too.

Our rock climbing experience with Mountain Skills Climbing Guides was exceptional. Ernie and Chris, our excellent guides, took the time to patiently explain each climbing aspect, respecting our individual comfort levels. Their supportive and motivational approach encouraged us to push boundaries without pressure, creating an exhilarating and accessible experience. Their guidance instilled confidence, allowing us to venture beyond our comfort zones and fostering a newfound enthusiasm for rock climbing. A commendable and enriching experience for beginners like us.

Teddy was outstanding. He got me through a really full day of climbing, showing me all around the trapps/uberfall at the Gunks. As experienced as I already am, I still learned a lot on belaying, anchoring, and anchor cleaning. He led me on all I could handle for the whole day, safely and securely. As much as I eventually want to do my own leading there, I really glad I let him take the lead for the day. I quickly realized I would have been in way over my head without a guide's help on my first day at the Gunks. What an amazing day. Thank you.

EJ is an awesome guide and really made my partner and I feel so comfortable and showed us such a good time out there. super knowledgeable as well and taught us so much. we know we will want to go out with a guide at least once more before we start trad climbing on our own and will def go through mountainskills again!!!

I took Mountain Skills' top-rope anchor building course along with two friends. We had a great day at the Gunks with our guide, Mark! Over the course of a full day, we learned a variety of techniques for setting up anchors on bolted routes as well as utilizing natural structures for building safe climbing anchors. We even got to climb a handful of routes we set throughout the day. I'm looking forward to putting these new skills to use...Thanks Mountain Skills!!!

Doug managed to get my friends and I scheduled for climbing with a guide with only a day's notice. My friends and I had an AMAZING first outdoor climbing experience with Jeremy. He's an excellent teacher, made us feel very safe and was more than willing to share various aspects of his climbing knowledge with us. I highly recommend this experience!

Doug and his team were amazing! Took our Boy Scout troop climbing for the day. Doug and the team setup a bunch of climbs. So willing to take time to teach the boys and get them excited about climbing. Everyone had an awesome time and can’t wait to do it again next year!

Climbed mid-November with Mark, with conditions making planning difficult. Doug and Mark made a great effort to plan for the best, but they managed expectations regarding potentially bad weather. Fortunately, we wound up getting a really nice day in. Mark is a terrific guide and an easy guy to climb with. This was my introduction to the Gunks and he really helped me understand the area and the rock. I highly recommend Mountain Skills.

Highly recommend. Doug (proprietor) runs a professional, friendly, fun group of guides. Took a trad course taught by Matt Murphy. Matt’s a super-conscientious, intentional, and skilled teacher. He knows his stuff, clearly loves the gunks and climbing, and is a great guy!

I hired mountain skills to help teach multi-pitch trad skills. Kyle was my guide and he was superb. He was honest and encouraging about my climbing level. He never pushed me to do anything but encouraged me to feel ready to tackle several multi pitch read leads.Kyle was personable and easy to get along with for the full day we spent together. Couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience. Between the choice in climbs, and the techniques he taught, it was money well spent. Lot of good tips on gear management and space-saving racking tips.Would definitely hire again.

I had an amazing experience with mountain skills from the time I registered to the time I was back at the shop after climbing it was a top notch experience. Kyle, my guide was wonderful. I felt safe the entire time and this really allowed me to enjoy my first climbing experience in the gunks. Doug was great with the registration and providing information about the day. I'd recommend these guys to anyone!!
