We stayed in the Blue Bird Suite and it was absolutely charming! The whole house made you feel like you'd walked back in time. It was cozy and homey, but never felt cramped. The staff was also very attentive and accommodating and our breakfast was fantastic!! I would definitely stay again

My first time eating at The Borland House brunch was in 2020. I had been connected with the owner through a friend, and I asked my mom to join me for a delayed birthday/Mother’s Day celebration. It was amazing! Little did I know that two years later, I would be leaving my job to start my own spa and looking for a part-time second job. I reached out to the owner and was thrilled to join the team.
It is currently 2024 as I write this, and I am coming up on my two-year anniversary. Working at The Borland House has been nothing but amazing. I interact with wonderful guests who share their stories and reasons for traveling here, and I’ve made a new friend (Victoria our wonderful waitress) who has become like family.
I have an incredible boss who supports my personal business goals and growth. She has taught me how to cook, manage a business, and provided an outlet for my creativity through photography for the house and pushes me to promote my creativity and business more. I learn something new every day in this hands-on job and establishment.
I am so grateful to be working here and for everyone I have met and interacted with because of this business. Thank you to everyone who has visited, and welcome to new travelers we will see in the future!
Rooms: My personal favorite room is our Sparrow King Suite, but all of our rooms are equipped with new Smart TVs, mini fridges, modern air conditioning and heating, and all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The Bluebird bathroom is my favorite, thanks to its charming clawfoot tub.
Nearby activities: The Hudson Valley offers an abundance of hiking trails, shopping areas, and historic small towns with museums and some of the best local shops. Notable attractions include Storm King Art Center, and the region is conveniently located just an hour and a half from New York City. During the summer, Montgomery hosts concerts that can be enjoyed from the porch, along with events such as car shows, bike shows, Montgomery Day in September, and seasonal parades. New Paltz and Beacon, both approximately a 30-minute drive away, are also beautiful towns with charming shops to explore.
Walkability: Situated in the heart of the village, The Borland House is within walking distance to City Winery and an array of local shops and restaurants. My personal favorite dining spots include Antonio’s, Rosemary’s Pub and Grub, and Copperfields. For shopping, I highly recommend The Montgomery Book Exchange, Corey’s Pickles, Montgomery Mercantile, and Rabbithole Antiques.
Food and drinks: The Borland House offers private dinners for guests and local residents. Additionally, we welcome the public for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Our morning breakfast features a continental selection, with our skillet frittata being a favorite among guests.
Noteworthy details: The Borland House is a historic residence steeped in rich history. Originally a single-bedroom farmhouse in the 1700s, it was expanded in the 1800s by the Borland family, where Charles Borland and Isabella hosted business meetings and social gatherings. In the 1920s, it was owned by Henry Hintz and his family, who operated a speakeasy on the premises. Today, The Borland House continues to create cherished memories and host significant events, blending its historic legacy with modern times.

Review for Mothers Day Brunch. Short Summary: Absolutely wonderful experience! Unique historic atmosphere combined with an authentic and genuine assortment of artifacts from the village and building history. Overall 9/10
Lets get into why the special breakfast and brunch events here are absolutely fantastic! I went to the mothers day brunch experience. The price was 60 dollars a person for a fixed menu, this included a starter with teas, coffee snd pastries. Those were very good! It was served on a pastry tower and was very cute. Staff was kind and helpful. They had multiple food options. I personally ranked them like this, the waffles were amazing. Crispy on the outside. Soft and warm on the inside, perfection! Next I would rank their chicken cutlet, its very crispy and fresh! I combined mine with the waffle for a chicken and waffle. Next was quiche. That was pretty good! Finally there was supposedly a stuffed french toast but it was more like a very doughy ball, not good.
I honestly really like the experice. It was relaxing and fun! There was light piano music playing in the room were were sat in and it was a good time.

We stayed in the hummingbird bird room which was small but comfortable the bathroom was in the next room over but we were the only ones in that hallway. We appreciate that they were dog friendly which is why we chose to stay with them. The neighborhood is very walkable with a bar close by.

Tragic. We came here for Mother's Day brunch, where 4 of our party of 5 were promptly seated at a while the 5th waited awkwardly for a chair that was not already occupied by a pile of dirty cleaning rags. The table was too small for our headcount, heavily soiled, and not set for our party despite booking the reservation weeks ago. Three drink menus and one brunch menu were provided, but we were told that today we would be dining family style, because "sometimes the owner does that," so you do not actually have a choice as to what you order aside from cocktails that are not included in the $65/head pre fixe. Service was so negligent that we had to take utensils and glassware from a place setting at an adjacent table. They seemed understaffed but the waitress had no sense of priority or urgency anyway. A woman who was not our server was, however, keen to try to sell us the centerpiece for $45 extra. There were no water goblets so we drank out of the 2 oz whiskey tumblers provided. The waitress did not leave us the water carafe (it was left on a table next to an open tube of Lysol wipes and mystery liquids with tin foil covers) so the oversalted panko chicken was difficult to enjoy. Mini eclairs were frozen and the sausage tasted lesser than microwaved Jimmy Dean. The quiche seemed homemade but if you're going to go through the trouble of making the crust, at least blind bake it so it doesn't resemble tacky glue and is structurally sound enough to re-microwave. We were served one cup of coffee each until we were asked if we'd like the check and at that time we were offered a laughable "top-off." It is evident that ownership is squeezing customers instead of applying for a historic building preservation grant. When I asked where the restroom was, I was told to use the one downstairs, which I was also bewilderingly warned did not flush. But fear not; should it not flush I could try another bathroom upstairs. Indeed, the toilet did not flush. I don't understand the opposition to an out of order sign. I was then trapped next to said bathroom for 5 minutes waiting for staff to assemble yet another table they did not have ready for a party that was also waiting around. I look forward to framing our family photos with the sewage van stationed coyly in the background. Never again.

What a lovely and authentic Victorian B&B! From the moment you walk up the walkway it has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff was beyond accommodating. The rooms were very clean and the bed was super comfy. Breakfast was a delight and the entire esthetic was beyond quaint. The only suggestion I would make is to add tissue boxes to the rooms and bathroom. Otherwise we highly recommend!!Walkability: Downtown village was adorableFood & drinks: Nearby restaurants were great

The Borland House was a lovely place to stay for the weekend while in town for a wedding. Self-checkin was very smooth and the Hummingbird room was charming. We took advantage of the sitting room and chess set, as well as the coffee and tea all day! Breakfast was wonderful service and food made to order, delicious both mornings. The electric car charger was a huge plus for our rental car! Walking distance to shops and pubs.Walkability: Walkable to shops and pubs.Food & drinks: Breakfast was delicious! Next time I’m in town I will definitely need to make a dinner reservation here.
