Wow Academy. I see that my review was removed. Pretty bad you have to hide bad reviews. This is Doug Scott... My comments to your response.
Look I am really not one to complain... This is truly very out of character for me. I'd rather be reasonable and make every effort towards good faith. Unfortunately, that has not worked with your business or in this situation.
We have a very different opinion over what transpired. But let's start with some common ground. First, it's an old truck with high miles. There is no dispute with that. But you can't fall back on that now after the fact. That's why we brought it to you to begin with. It was at my direction that instead of trying to fix this on his own I brought my son to you. You were the trusted expert.
Yes, when we first came in my son had another transmission in the back of his truck. He initially wanted to just change transmissions. But instead I chose to bring him to you. We were undecided as to what was best, and again that was why were came to you. We put our good faith in you and yielded to your expertise, Mel. The transmission drove and shifted fine, but it made a noise and it did not leak. We also did inform you that on one occasion a year previous that the truck threw a code. You took the truck and it was very clear at the onset we wanted you to look and see what was wrong. You confirmed that the noise was indeed the flywheel. Mel, there is no misunderstanding on this, you are the one who advised us to keep the transmission it had and to just replace the flywheel.
Your description of how you slide back the torque converter to unbolt the flywheel indicates that you likely would have observed if there was a leak, which there wasn't. However if it was a potential issue, as you say now, then why not advise me that and deal with it then instead of after the fact? Or, at the very least tell me of the potential issue and risks, as you now describe. You didn't mention anything about that. Instead you changed the flywheel and sent us down the road believing we were good. Yes, Mel. You got the truck back with 1063 more miles on it. We live 30 miles from your shop. We drove the truck home, my son used it the next couple days to go to work at West Point. He discovered the leak. We drove it home. Called you and parked it. Then we drove it the 30 miles back to you. So your contention is that in that time we did something to damage the front pump bushing and seal? It couldn't have occurred when you took it apart? Either way, now it's leaking. And, really that is still not the point.
When we came back, I wasn't expecting a freebie. In fact I never expected any special treatment or discount. You work very hard and have a business and earn your income, just like my son. I just expected the bare minimum, an honest job. I never expected this. This was not cool. Now it's our fault? Or, now it's that the truck is old with high miles? Either way, Mel. None of that matters. It wasn't about the truck, or even the transmission. It was about communication and transparency. Being decent and considerate. What if this was your kid, Mel? We clearly have a difference of opinion on this and will have to agree to disagree.
As far as this truck, it will get it repaired. But this negative experience calls some issues into question about your business and practice. I fear that there are other hard working people out there who also may come to you for help and they also risk being left in similar circumstances. They should know.

in regards to doug scott . Unfortunately Mr. Scott is mistaken . I was very good friends with jimmy but he never sponsored my racecar. Mr. scott and his son brought a used transmission in the back of the truck doug told me to put the used transmission in , justin ( the son ) said no it only threw a slipping code upon acceleration once they continued to discuss it until justin said do not put the used one in . When you drive a vehicle with a broken flywheel which is what it was here for the torque converter is moving in and out excess of an 1/2 of an inch instead of 1/16 of an inch which could ruin the front pump bushing and seal which is where his truck is leaking from (front seal) justin had called about a week later to talk about his truck he mentioned again about installing the used transmission it didn't matter to me wether we put used one in or re- installed the original and he elected to put original back in again . When we pull the transmission out to replace the flywheel we do not touch the torque converter which is where the front seal rides other than unbolting from the flywheel . The truck was picked up 6 weeks ago and has 1063 miles on it since vehicle was picked up . i will not attempt to fix a leak on a transmission that has 225,642 miles on it , i told him i would rebuild it , the price was $4000.00 not 4800 like he states i discounted the price on the labor 600 nobody is rebuilding an allison transmission for $3400.00 39 years in business in 3 days june 10th 1986 better smarter than ever I do not do business like that , thats why i have a 5 star rating without some company fabricating it .In regards to some other bad reviews , one gentlemen states he owns a parts store found seeds and metal in the bottom of his pan if he's trying to imply the metal was from his burned up transmission he is wrong we've never done anything of the sort as far as seeds in bottom of pan must have come from wherever he was keeping it another gentleman states we broke something he states we broke an antifreeze line but still drove it away . than states i threw him off my lot thats absurd i' ve never thrown anyone out of my establishment in 39 years , we would have fixed it if we broke it .

I had an issue with my torque converter on my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and Academy transmission came highly recommended. I met with Mel and was very comfortable with the information he gave me about the repair of my vehicle. They completed the job I. A reasonable amount of time and at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend Academy transmission to all of my friends. They were up front with the repair, the price was reasonable and the service and friendly atmosphere will keep me coming back. If you have an issue with your transmission the check these folks out. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. These folks really know their stuff when it comes to transmissions. Don't go anywhere else but Academy transmission.

They do decent work, but they are very slow. If its your only car, find another shop. You have to wait 6-8 weeks for an appointment, then be sure to not miss it. We had a family medical emergency and missed our appointment. I called 3 days later and was pushed out another 6-8 weeks and had one of the owners yelling at me for begging for a closer appointment. The other issue is they dont work full time at this shop. Your repair will take weeks to complete.Service: Transmission

Mel and Thaddeus are excellent professionals!! We've been dealing with them for many years and have always had good results. They not only troubleshoot the problems with our vehicle transmissions, but they are very courteous and they take the time to explain to us the problems they find with our vehicles. Then they give us an estimate to repair the problem. We have recommended them to friends and realtives and we will continue to do so!!Service: Transmission

The worst experience I ever had.I brought my sons th400 to this clown because he came recommended from a few of my customers. I own an auto parts store in Newburgh.I was charged 2k for a "complete rebuild" Ill make this long story short, The first red flag was I dropped the pan to put on a aluminum B&M pan and there was a pile of seeds just laying in the pan as well as metal filings-All the parts inside this transmission was the original and I have the parts to prove it-The 2nd rebuild is perfect-I never leave reviews but this guy got me-
