“Heart of Gold is all that comes to mind when I think of the two mechanics that own this place. When a mechanic takes money out of his own pocket to fix my finance's Jeep that is truly something unheard of. And this was me and my fiance's first time going to Toms Auto in Middle Island. When my fiance and I pulled up to the shop we realized that they were about to close. We brought in the car because it was about to break down. We had no appointment and we said that we only have $200 left to our names, in our wallet to pay them. Until we get another paycheck from our jobs again.
My fiance and I love paycheck to paycheck, barely getting by?. But after the owner mechanic looked at our Jeep he knew instantly what was wrong with it and said that we could NOT even drive it home. That's how dangerous it was to drive. The owner mechanic said to us, "I'm going to stay after closing time and I'm going to fix it right now. We couldn't believe he was staying after just to fix our Jeep. Then after he fixed it, then it was time to pay. It came to $450 total. Which was a great deal because Goodyear quoted over $600. Even with the deal he gave us we still only had $200 on us and no credit cards, nothing. Not a penny more until my fiance and I get our paychecks which was six days away. So I figured that they would hold onto the Jeep until we had the money to pay the remaining $250. Instead he said look I'll take whatever cash you have on you now, which was $200, which was less than half of what we owed. The owner mechanic assured us and said he knew how it is to struggle financially especially on Long Island NY. He said he likes to help others in need because he's been in financial hardship in the past. He said God blesses him so he blesses others. He said to come back whenever we can and to just give him the other $200 that we owed. Instead of the $250 we owed, he just said he would cut the $50 off and make it straight $200 even.
But all in all, We couldn't believe that he just stayed after closing time to do a $450 job on our jeep and he accepted just the $200 that we had. Instead of closing shop and rushing home to relax, he instead chose to help us instead❤️?❤️
We thanked him and we were in shock. What mechanic does $450 of work and car parts for $200 pay. Basically we got $250 of work and car parts for free. He said only if you guys have the money, then to come back and give him just $200 instead of the $250. And he even said that if you really don't have it not to worry. So next Friday when my fiance got his paycheck, my fiance went in with the $250 and said here I owe this to you and the owner mechanic was amazed that we came back to pay him. He said. He has done that to others because he felt bad that they didn't have enough to pay but all the others never came back to pay him the rest of what they owed. Hse has a heart of gold. No mechanic that is out there would even let a $1 slide. They are all money hungry and want the absolute full amount. Let alone even giving work done for free! They are amazing here and all have strong morals and respect which is hard to find nowadays. They live by God's commandments that's for sure. God bless them❤️

Very reasonable pricing and professional staff. Work was completed promptly and there hasn't been any problems. Would recommend to anyone needing auto work. Ask for Mike, he's good people.”
