I brought in a 9000 mile, mint condition, 1976 Eldorado for basically 6 simple repairs ranging from. simple brake squeak with booster leak, rough idle, air level shock control issue and transmission leak with slight harder shift then it should have. The repairs were all deficient, the problems were made worse, new problems created and significant unauthorized work preformed( that included converting R12 cooling system to R134 that still doesn't work) and the car was damaged on the interior( despite being covered) and exterior.. I was told was told the car was done ( given "Nicks 100% seal of approval") and to pick it up several times, in the 5 months the car was there. Each time I went to verify the repairs, I found all the repairs deficient and new problems created. I finally just had to take the car and Nick assured me that all repairs were 100%. I picked up the car on a Saturday, when shop was closed, and Nick had no time and just handed the car off to me and left. Nick attempted to charge over $12,678 and then settled for $8900 that I paid him. His invoices do not show the labor/dates for each specific repair, as required by DMV, and has all labor lumped together, in no chronological order, and then states how much you saved in labor hours he supposedly discounted. So the invoices would have been over $16,000 for those simple repairs. When I picked up the car and drove it home, I realized all the repairs remained deficient and saw the damage. I immediately advised Nick and sent photos. He offered to refund, in my opinion an admission to all the above, $7,500 if I sign a Release. After having the car back, I realized the cost for the repairs, which included dissecting his repairs that he claims he has no records of, could be in excess of $7,500 and instead asked for reimbursement from a quality restoration shop I use. I never heard back from him so I have filed a DMV Complaint for the following , in my opinion, DMV violations that could result in fines to revocation of their DMV License : non-quality repairs, unauthorized work, not returning parts, grossly overcharging, not providing estimate, committing deceptive practice , not using approved motor vehicle refrigerant recycling equipment ( advised had not R12 equipment) invoice not showing 1-labor for each repair 2- description of initial repair 3-no date in and out 4- no odometer reading in and out 5- no repair shop registration number 6- no license plate/vin number 7- no terms and limit of guarantee. All the deficient repairs. new problems created and damage has been documented and discussed in email exchanges between myself and Unique Performance. The car was supposed to be left inside and not left outside to make the shop look good as evidenced in the Unique Performance Facebook page on 2/15/23 and 3/29/23. The pictures were great because they show the passenger front fender extension before it was damaged while at Unique Performance. DMV will not investigate a complaint unless they believe their is credence to the filed report against the shop. If violations are found to be valid, there will be serious repercussions for the shop. Everyone should download the NYS DMV Shop Regulations and be aware and demand the shop you use adheres to them or report them.
