I see a lot of negative comments from years ago. I work there now and have for a year now. We do not steal dogs. The adoption fee is different for every single dog. We only charge what we put into the dog. We get dogs that are in terrible conditions when we get them. We care for them get them healthy and ready for adoption. That cost money. Vets and medical treatment are expensive and so is vaccines and dog food. And to the people saying the staff is rude. None of those people work there any more. We are very friendly and always treat people with respect. I know people have issues with the owner. She is retiring in December and barely has anything to do with the shelter anymore. If the town doesn't step in to help run the place we will be shut down December 31 2022. We are barely making it as it is. We are over run with dogs and puppies and kitties and kittens. We don't have the things we need for the animals and sometimes I buy stuff with my own money just to make sure these animals are comfortable. Please come see us and adopt. Donate. Come help out. We really need help. There are only 3 of us who work there and there is only so much we can do. We need wood shavings and hay. We need newspaper. So to end this long review please don't listen to the negative comments from years ago. Things change. My boss penny has been there forever and she is only rude to people who are rude also. We get a lot of entitled obnoxious people who think we should just hand the dogs over because they said so. Oh and to the lady complaining about people yelling and asking about dogs barking. We are not animal control. We don't go out and pick up strays and lost dogs. Please complain to the town and city council because that's who pays them. We have nothing to do with animal control other than taking care of the animals they drop off. That's it. Sorry so long. I know a lot of people won't take the time to read this but to those who did thank you and hopefully we will see y'all visit the shelter.

Penny as usual was very nice and our lovely chiweenie LEVI, known there as Remi, is the best pup we could ever ask for. And he was puppy pad trained before we adopted him. The place was super tidy yet inviting. We’ve gotten almost all our family with paws from here and will continue to do so!

Our family recently 01/08 adopted a little chihuahua/terrier mix. Great little dog!! The staff was very responsive with letting us come visit, with my application and keeping me informed with the adoption process, as well as a flexible pick up time for our new fur baby. The little dog room was very clean!! Big dogs also all have clean pens. I definitely recommend this shelter if you are looking for a healthy rescue dog! They are all vetted, spay/neutered. UTD on all shots. Definitely worth the adoption fee.

Was looking at a dog and they were nice saying they no longer had the dog and gave us a number to a lady who was fostering him.

My experience has been very positive. I adopted a lab/pit mix in late December. The staff, in particular Penny were very caring towards the animals, and seemed to be doing their best with limited financial resources. She was willing to answer the phone on off-hour times, and quite knowledgeable about the dog's background. I had wait a few days after my first meeting for the dog to get a rabies shot, and she was able to get the dog tested for heart worm and Lyme as part of the vaccination - not part of the normal routine. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is that they are somewhat expensive in comparison with other shelters. But certainly happy with the new puppy,

The Volunteers working there constantly reminded me that they were doing me a favor by me rescuing this dog. I was doing the dog a favor by rescuing the dog. Their self importance and narcissism almost made me leave. After the infections and all that stuff that dogs get from animal shelters that are poorly kept turned out to be a great dog, the only problem is they said they gave him shots I told them I need proof of the Rabies shot because I'm going into another country with the dog well that was seven months ago and I'm still waiting for it. After, I tried to call, the phone number is out of service. Too much attitude from them to ever go back or recommend them. I feel sorry for the animals there, they would probably find homes for them a lot quicker if they lost the poor attitude.

The place is absolutely dirty and mismanaged. They don't have the staff OR the time of day to properly care for the animals they have sheltered. To them the animals are clearly treated as a disposable commodity and not a living creature.
They are extremely rude to anyone evem remotely interested in adopting and seriously scare people away from adopting in the first place.
This place is a joke of an animal shelter and should honestly not be permitted to continue operation.

Will update the review as more information comes out, but at this time, it's not looking good for the organization.
From multiple users I have talked to, this place should be avoided. There are numerous reports of outrageous adoption costs ($500+), poor conditions for the animals, and as of late, workers "stealing" animals in the area. From their post on Facebook recently, an owner lost a couple puppies and found them here but the shelter now refuses to return the animal without a lot of bureaucracy involved. The story they posted doesn't line up with the information that is being provided by other users, nor is the shelter attempting to clear this up.
Overall, stick to the tried and true organizations in the area, like the Elmore SPCA, the Potsdam SPCA, etc... which have true oversight.

Shelters are for animals that need homes, not ones that have a home. If you get an animal from this “shelter “ chances are you are getting a pet that already has a home. Why are there no posts of lost and found pets on this page so their owners can be located? They automatically list them for adoption and will not return them to their owners. If they were in it for the animals interest like they claim, they would be happy to find a missing animal already has a good home.

If I had a zero star option I would give them this. I’m amazed that a place like this is even in business this shelter needs to be shutdown immediately they steal from loving families to turn around and sell the dogs/puppies for profit... it’s terrifying to known places like this are real...
