It seems to be that the only thing that they are interested in is the bottom line. My suggestion..is you have a fur baby who is ill or needs to be seen, take them to Upstate Veterinary Hospital. They will get the care and help that they need and the price is about the same or a little bit more than Shaker but worth every penny. My daughter has taken her pets to Shaker for many, many years but from what I, personally, have witnessed in the past year is less care and a huge bill. My heart goes out to all pet owners who are unable to give their fur babies the medical care they need because of exorbitant prices like Shaker's. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Stay away from this practice. They do not care one bit for the pets or their owners. I can not believe they are in business. This review is about the front desk staff that, apparently, have full reign over the place. I never got past this viscous duo. I brought my cat in for a scheduled appointment. He has been a patient for at least 6 years. We were 10 minutes late because I had problems getting him into his cage.I apologized on arrival and they laughed and agreed that it is hard . They let me sit there for 10 additional minutes, then very nonchalantly informed me that the doctors had moved on to other patients and that I would have to reschedule. I was the only person in the waiting room. They were very smug about it. I asked if they could reconsider because my cat is a difficult traveler . The reply was "no, there is nothing we can do". I said I could wait, again a negative response. I will never patronize this business again and hope you think twice.

DO NOT BRING YOUR BELOVED PET HERE! FIND ANOTHER VET HOSPITAL!! Our cat had end stage renal disease and for several months I took care of him at home administering fluids and medication. Finally it came to the point where he was starting to suffer so we made the hard but humane decision of putting him down. The experience was not humane at all. Dr. Cherry could not find a vein to administer the pre euthanasia sedative and therefore my cat didn't get that. When I asked how and where he was going to administer the actual euthanasia drug if he couldn't find a vein he huffed and puffed and never answered me. All of a sudden after struggling to find a vein on my very sick cat he stuck the needle in my cat's chest in the heart area!!!! My cat's eyes got wide and his mouth was moving as if he was trying to cry but couldn't. I was horrified to say the least!!!! The last memory I have of my cat and he has of me is this nightmare procedure performed by a heartless cruel lazy impatient Dr. Cherry. This monster should never be called a doctor and should have his license taken away!! I tried to find a lawyer to sue but low and behold, the paperwork I signed before the "murder" of my cat had a read between the lines clause saying the client (me) was revoked the right to take legal action!! It's been a few years and I still cry and have nightmares of the brutal killing of my beloved cat.

this business a long time ago, was started by an awesome vet named David Wolfe. this place was run efficiently and professionally for many years, Dr. wolfe got to retirement age and sold the business to it's current owner,Who apparently could give a ratz fuzzy butt about the condition of it's current clients ,Because they show very little interest or compassion towards them This is why after more then several decades, I will be taking my animals elsewhere. There has been a few good people there, For the most part the people make you seem like you are imposing on their time when you call there This is not good customer service acceptable anywhere Chuck Ewing

I've been taking my dog here for a long time. Actually, we've taken all our family dogs here since 2007 but I'm at the point where I'm done and have to find another vet. I have a very anxious little dog that has extreme vet anxiety. It's so bad he gets medicated before we come. I've been having them trim his nails for years because groomers just don't have the knowledge of how to handle anxiety like vets do. I've paid the same price, $25-28 depending everytime. Tell me why I went this last time and they charged us $47!! And we had to sign some waiver thing beforehand. This has never Happened. Now I know he's not the easiest dog to trim nails for but $47?? He weighs 25lbs. That's just insane to me. Now I can't even rely on them to trim his nails and I feel stuck. I'll be searching for a new vet now because I can't pay that every month for a simple nail trim. Very disappointed in shaker lately. They're definitely not what they used to be, VCA is very money hungry and price gouges.

This isn't the Shaker vet it used to be.They were taken over by VCA which are the robber barons of the vet world . They only care about charging you whatever they can for as much as you can. They took an US of my dogs abdomen. She then recommended me to a vet specialist who refused to honor their US bec a vet tech did the procedure .So I had to pay another 700 for another US to see what is going on with my dog.She took blood to see if he could take a certain pain med.I bought it at 70 a bottle She said a couple days for test results.I didn't get results for a month. Then I finally get a call from a different vet.He took my dog off that med bec he said my dogs kidney and liver levels were too high. They wouldn't refund the 70.They don't return calls. They don't send emails .They won't give you a price on any tests Everything has to be done as a "treatment plan" by the vet. There seems to be a lot going on behind the scenes that they won't admit.I think it's poorly run .I'm not going to say it's the vets fault .They are prob controlled by the "corporation".If you want to pay too much and experience a lot of frustration go here If not go somewhere else. They also used to have a lot of vets but , they are down to four.Onr vet is the medical director and two have the same last name. They def don't have the staff they used to have.

The star is for the vet techs and the front desk staff. They were friendly and helpful. This review is about the doctor. My dog can have major issues with strangers and that appears to be aggression when it's actually nervousness and having no idea how to act. She just goes crazy with the jumping and barking. She's never had a problem at the vet's office though, not in the 2.5 years that she's been alive. Well this doctor walked in and she immediately went crazy. People who don't know better will look her in the eye and try to lean in and talk softly to her. If you know dogs, this doesn't work. You need to back off, maybe even turn your back. I'd think a vet would know this? I had her safely on a leash and she wouldn't have been able to get to him, had he backed off. But instead, he tackled her and stabbed her with the cytopoint shot. I almost cried. I said "this isn't helping!" My dog was so terrified she was shaking. Needless to say, I let that vet have a large piece of my mind. I will never go back and I'd recommend no one else go there either. My one issue with front desk staff was with the one that said he would pull my dog's records (from other VCA hospitals) when I made my appointment (at least two weeks out). The morning of the appointment I got a call asking if I could bring the records. Well, no, that wasn't on my radar because you said you would get them. Apparently my dog's proof of rabies vaccine was nowhere in the records I had, but my dog wouldn't have been allowed to board a plane from Hawaii to the mainland without a rabies shot. Anyway, that was all straightened out and I have the rabies certificate in my possession now. I'll never provide it to VCA Shaker however, because I will NEVER go back there. I needed to get in quickly for my dog's bi-monthly cytopoint shot but now I can book at a more reputable vet that doesn't have immediate openings. And that has a less angry, more professional veterinarian. Seriously, he needs to have his license revoked.

Bruno, our canine, a regular patient at Shaker for over 7 years had an emergency yesterday, vomiting brown bile, after having a blood test and being groomed there just the day before. When I contacted Shaker to find out the results of his blood test I had to leave a message and was told his vet would call back. A tech eventually called and told me that the tests seemed to be normal and Bruno couldn't be seen by a vet for the vomiting issue because they were too busy and they recommended 2 other area hospitals I could try. By the time I was able to arrange an emergency appt elsewhere his problem escalated, and he had to be euthanized at 5 pm. I will never, ever, come back to Shaker nor recommend them to anyone.

The worst. I moved to the area from Brooklyn in October. I'm from the area and my parents have taken pretty much every dog they've ever had to Shaker with nothing but amazing things to say. My experience was not the same. First, they are really expensive. Coming from the city I thought I'd see a decrease in vet cost. I was shocked that Shaker's fees for exactly the same exams and tests were well over the cost of what I paid in Brooklyn. Second, the lack of management at Shaker (or good management) is evident. They have an army of people as you walk in, but what do they do? They are poorly managed and do not manage expectations. No one calls you back. The pharmacist is the worst. NEVER returns calls. Lastly, why call yourselves an EMERGENCY VET because I had an emergency and you "didn't have a slot to fit you in?" My pet ended up passing after a 3+ hour wait at an emergency vet they recommended to me. They're only really an appointment based vet with no real care in the world for you or your cat. They are only concerned about the money. If my cat lived my husband and I swore never to go back. Great doctors - everything else sucks.

If you are reading this review, you most likely have a pet. The word "pet" minimizes the relationship, the bond you have established with this, albeit furry member of your family. VCA Shaker acknowledges their patients by extending a tender approach in their care. My late chihuahua, a rescue, gave us joy for seventeen years. She survived the early onset of a heart condition because the staff of VCA Shaker monitored her condition and provided treatment that would ensure a quality of life for her remaining days. After she crossed the rainbow, Shaker sent condolences, a card signed by every member of the staff who had experienced an exchange with our "fur girl." That makes VCA Shaker more than a business (by the way it is owned by Mars - yup the candy maker) it's a pet sanctuary.

The other week I had an emergency. My dog ate chocolate and I called to see what to do and if I could come in and get him checked out. They basically said they didn't have time for an emergency visit. I had to go to an emergency vet and pay 174 for him to just be seen. They don't care about their clients at all. Why am I paying 91.51 a month and that is for the spay and neuter package which includes emergency visits. Don't take your animals here. They will screw you over.

I have never been more disappointed than I have been in my dealings with VCA Shaker. We joined their puppy care club and paid $90 per month for the first year. As part of this plan, her spay was to be included. It was very important to me that she receive the laser surgery for her spay as I heard it was an easier recovery. Her treatment plan that we signed in advance agreed that this was the surgery to be performed. We were told it would be an additional $80 for this laser to be used. The day of the surgery my husband brought the dog to be spayed. Since it was during covid and they did not allow us inside, they handed him a clipboard with the page turned to a signature line while he was holding a leash and asked him to sign on that line. He did. They did not do the surgery we had agreed upon. When I was outraged and asked to speak to the vet, the vet refused to call me. The office manager called and tried to blame us despite the fact that the treatment plan clearly stated what they were supposed to be doing. One of their papers indicated what we had asked for but they had included another one that simply had "female spay" listed and that apparently was also signed by my husband so they said that was our fault. They had conflicting paperwork despite what we asked for. They didn't care. I moved forward with them despite my better judgement. Fast forward. Three times over the last six months I had incidents where I needed to bring my dog in to be seen. When I tried to get a sick appointment, it was TWO MONTHS out. I called and they literally wanted me to wait 6 weeks for my dog who had a suspected ear infection to be seen. How is this okay? I am now beyond the 1 year mark and paying $59.99 per month for the dog care plan yet I cannot get my dog in to be seen. Another incident where my dog accidentally swallowed something. They said they couldn't see her. Told me to bring her somewhere else. They don't care that this would cost a substantial amount of money out of pocket that I would not have to pay as a Care Club member. Fast forward again. I need to get more flea/tick and heart worm medication for my dog. They refuse to allow a script for outside companies and were trying to force me to pay more (almost double) to get it through them or use the vendors they pick (I'm sure they get a kick back). I have always used 1800PetMeds. They tried to make this impossible by saying I would have to come and pick up the script in person and mail it to 1800PetMeds. I was fine with that and said I would. They discouraged it again and asked me to use them. I said no. The next day I get a phone call that they would not give me a script. They insisted I bring the dog to them to be weighed first. Ridiculous. I have a scale and can weigh my own dog. Then they said she had lapsed on heartworm and wouldn't give me the script unless I brought her for a heart worm test despite the fact that I have already had a heart worm test on her in the last 6 months. Apparently, this would not be covered under her care club because they only require an annual test and she already had it. When I asked how much it would cost they said $200!! This test at other locations runs $40-50. At this point, I simply cannot and will not interact with this place again. It has been nothing short of a nightmare. They do not care about my dog, they just want to make money. I am disheartened and highly recommend you look elsewhere for a vet. Beware.

We used to take our dog here. Then one day I called because we needed our dog to be seen that day. For some reason he had thrown up not once but 5x. The lady that answered the phone said they did not have time to see us and she could not have cared less. If they care so little about their clients, we knew we needed to take him somewhere where the people actually cared about him.

It's a chain. They're concerned about money. They just emailed everyone to say they're not dealing with online pharmacies (chewy.com) because they're "concerned about pet's health." No. They're concerned about profits. Try lowering your costs for meds, VCA, and then we wouldn't go to online pharmacies. SMH.

Put my girlfriend on hold for so long it went to voicemail twice... our dog had an injured toe where the skin was pulled all the way back from the nail. We bring him in to have his nail and toe area looked at. They take him in for 5 minutes and come out with his toe nails trimmed. Said the doctor thought everything looked good, it looked like ground beef... no doctor looked at that and said it looked good. The doctor never saw my dog. Receptionist isn't worth 2 paperclips as far as her ability to execute her functions. Extremely rude. We've been customers for over a decade and they didn't care for our dog at all. Next day he went to the animal emergency center where we received $360 worth of treatment and medicines. Shaker Vet doesn't care for your animals. sometimes they don't even look at them. terrible humans.
