Dr Flanigan saved our dog's life! She cared deeply about Molly's welfare and treated her as if she were her own dog. We will be forever grateful to her because she saved our Molly's life. Her entire staff was warm and welcoming and also truly cared about Molly's well being. Thank you, Lake Placid Animal Hospital for all you do for our pets!

I asked around for a vet and heard very mixed reviews about Dr. Flanigan. I decided to see for myself as my dog has anxiety in the car and I didn't want to travel to Plattsburgh. My first impression was the place was beat and the lighting terrible. A person came in first who never introduced herself or told me their role there. I was treated like a stupid person (I have a masters degree in science) and reprimanded when I told her the dog food that I give my dog. The "doctor" came in (never introduced herself ) and again lectured me on dog food. Then told me she would have to do an "exam" to give my dog her shots as she was never been seen there. No exam took place (at this point I am upset) and I was charged over 50 dollars for this. I had requested to wait on heart worm testing till the spring. We went into another room to cut my dogs nails and as I walked in the vet and tech were WHISPERING to each other. At this point, I asked if there was a problem and they said no. I LOVE MY DOG so much and I WOULD NEVER DO ANYTHING TO HURT HER OR WITHHOLD ANYTHING SHE NEEDED. I left and was so upset it took me hours to calm. THE ONLY positive thing about this visit was the lovely women at the front desk.

We first came here while on vacation when our dog got quilled by a porcupine. Dr. Flanigan is great and the staff is wonderful. Now, we're on our next dog, and we still make an appointment at least once a year to stay with this practice. definitely recommend.

Won't be going back to this place. I once thought they were the best vet around but now I'm not so sure. I brought my cat in because she suddenly stopped eating. The doc listened to her with a stethoscope but otherwise did no examination other than listening to what I relayed as the problem. She then asked me if I wanted to be "conservative" and receive fluids and anti-nausea meds or if I wanted to spend more money and have a "complete workup" including an xray and bloodwork. Now, my cat is only 8 months old and I'd do anything I need to help her feel better, but how the hell am I supposed to make such a decision without some guidance?! The vet didn't even do a solid examination!! If the animal is not eating, would you not palpate it's stomach? I was in the same room, I never saw this happen. Well, I optioned for fluids and meds to start. A few minutes later a tech came in. She was very sweet and personable, nothing against her at all, but she had me hold my cat in my arms while attempting to inject her with cerenia. I later found out from another vet that this injection is KNOWN to sting and cause an unpleasant reaction in animals and no tech in their right mind should have the owner try to hold the cat. At the time I had no idea, I got bit and scratched my my scared cat and I'm quite surprised the tech didn't stab me with the needle in all the commotion. It was downright dangerous and unneccesary, another technician should have been restraining my animal in a way they are trained to do so. At the very least, I should have been given some guidance on what to do and what to expect. Since the cat put up such a fight, the doctor deemed her frisky enough not to need fluids so I left without getting my cat the hydration I desperately felt she needed. As I left, the doctor told me multiple times to "call tomorrow if you sense she is not getting any better" because the office would be closed Saturday. She never once mentioned that she leaves at noon on Friday so when I called at 2:30 pm to say I think my cat needs fluids I'm told "the doctor is not in and we cannot administer anything without her approval". What a crock! I immediately called High Peaks Animal Hospital in Ray Brook and they got me in at 4pm that same day. The doctor there took great care in THOROUGHLY examining my cat and feeling her organs. He felt fairly certain that she just had a touch of gastritis and would be feeling fine soon enough but she of course needed to stay hydrated while she laid low. WOW! What a concept! I knew that she needed fluids 24 hours prior but because she was skittish around a needle Dr flanigan felt she must be fine. Very long story to say- stay away from Dr Flanigan and her practice. It was once a place I thought of highly but has gone downhill rather quickly. Perhaps they are overwhelmed and understaffed, perhaps its Covid-19 that has overworked people, but whatever it is that has caused this downhill slide, she has lost my business and I will be sure to tell everyone I know NOT to seek care from her. She obviously needs time off anyway, they're always overbooked and slow to see their patients. Then they don't show proper attention and care when they are in the room with their patients.

We took our 11 year old cat here for an abscess on her cheek. Allison complained she was skinny....she's always been that way and I explained this to her! She gave our cat a shot of a steroid and sent her home w an antibiotic. Less than 24 hours later my cat died. When we called to let the vet know, she stated that she was skinny and that way the cause of death. Prior to bringing the car there.thr.cat was fine. Eating and drinking fine. I'm convinced she killed our cat. But there's no way to prove it. We are all heartbroken about it. Pretty sure that we won't be bringing any other pet there....l

I understand fully what vets. go through with costs etc. I had made an appointment long enough in advance not to be charged the emergency fee. I'll pay what I need to to get my dog better. Thats no question. My lab was seen. My card was taken without them showing me what I was paying for. They just take your card. That may be convenient for them, but is unprofessional. The ole see your bill before you pay. My card was then brought back to my car (no signature) and on the bill (which I hadn't been shown yet) was an "Overflow" fee. Which at no point was I alerted to. Almost double the usual fee of showing up for a normally scheduled appointment. The cost of same day. How is overscheduling my issue? No alert of these hidden, not usual fees is plain deceitful. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth. And you just lose trust.

Miss Alison Flanigan went against my consent and did medical procedures on my cat after I already said no. My cat had his 3 year rabies vaccination last year, I mistakenly left the certificate at home, and told them they could contact the vet who did the vaccine he was ALREADY vaccinated for. Alison charged me for the procedures, after I expressed what she did was wrong she told me I did not have to pay. I told her it wasn’t about the money, it was about the illegal things she just did. She then told me I can not have the 3 year rabies certificate because she did not like I defended myself against her malpractice. If my cat absolutely needed the proof of the vaccine, I should have been told and I could have rescheduled the appointment and have the appropriate documentation. I signed no paper work (which is weird because every vet i’ve been to has you sign forms) and I was not told what kind of procedures would be done to my cat before they were preformed. I then called back, and Alison Flanigan told her receptionist to tell me I now can’t have the certificate without paying. that is 100 percent EXTORTION. I have TWO bills, one that proves she gave him the vaccine, and another where she took the vaccine off, and now is trying to cover up her horrible mistake. She was unprofessional from the beginning and i brushed it off, how ever, I could not sit there and pretend what she did and is doing is right. and others need to know about this.

This vet basically killed our Standard Poodle by giving shots that weren't needed. People put their trust in a Vet thinking they will do the right thing. Dr. Flanagan do not! The only time she offered dialog was dialog after our pet had passed. My advice is be very careful when dealing with Lake Placid Animal Hospital.

As you contemplate on whether or not to use the Lake Placid Animal Hospital, I first, highly recommend you understand my experience there. My dog, Harry, had just recently been put down at the age of 13 years. Ignoring the emotional aspect of his passing and focusing on the logical side of things, there were a few actions the Lake Placid Animal Hospital made leading up to his death that, least to say, disappointed me. My dog went in for his wellness check-up, and was given two vaccines: Distemper and Bordetella. I attempted to have a conversation as to whether the shots were necessary taking into consideration Harry's age and previous shots received in his lifetime. There was really no discussion on that he had them before and it should be OK! As I have used the clinic for my dog these past 13 years, it's easy to place your trust into the hands of vet. It's easy to take actions for granted. It was these actions, however, that resulted in the downfall of my beloved dog's health. The day after the shots, Harry could barely stand up. He couldn't eat. He couldn't drink. I strongly believe, that without the recent shots, my once healthy dog could've been with me for a couple more years. Again, I am incredibly disappointed with the actions taken/could've been avoided. Hence why, I recommend you reflect on my experience, and take awareness of the fact on, "are these medical steps truly necessary?" -especially at a time of delicate dog age? I researched information about the shots afterwards. Apparently, the distemper shot given to a younger dog can give close to 100% lifetime protection. Why was important information like this left in the air? Again, be aware of the actions people make, even as a licensed vet. Acknowledge the signs of unnecessary performance.
