Stay away! 6 months after renting, they are attempting to collect $ 600 for a bogus scratched fender claim! Pictures shown are not from the drop off point. I handed keys to attendant at drop off and no issues found. They hook you in with a low rate and try to scam you afterwards. They also tried to claim that the gas was not full at drop off when it really was. This company is bad news! Go with anyone else!

Walked in with my rental reservation pre-paid, brought my ID and credit card and was in and out with my car within 10 minutes of seeing the representative. Excellent and clear service. Only down side is that you are waiting on the same line as all other Avis customers so the wait time can be rough depending on foot traffic.

My recent experience with Payless Rent Car was very good. The staff at the counter was very courteous and responded every doubt I had. The price was very competitive compared to other companies at the same location (JFK Airport). The car I received was very comfortable, had nice features and was very fuel-efficient (2023 Kia Soul). Returning the car was a breeze (fast and simple). I will definitely consider renting from them in the future!

As a lot of people have said something has to change, prepaid for my rental, but had to wait on line for an hour and a half to get it. The gentleman that helped was very nice and the truck rented was clean and amazing. Once at the counter it took only 5 minutes to clear everything and be told where to pick up my vehicle. Not sure why it took so long to get to the counter. Maybe have an automated pickup computer that does everything for you and if questions go to the counter.

Experience was horrible. It took over an hour to pick up a car I pre paid for. No AC. Sweating profusely. Agent was extremely rude. The guayanese guy, wearing a tie and a mask. Don’t know his name. See photo. Overall Horrible experience

The wait at the AVIS counter at JFK was awful. The employees must not be paid enough to care. It was stifling hot, and unbearably slow and then the employees offered no concern or compassion. The actual car was phenomenal, but I was late to my event.

I’ve never seen such a disorganized approach to car rentals in my life. Completely inefficient and frustrating for everyone. Know what the most frustrating thing is? When there are 52 people (yes, I counted) and 5 are your priority members and everyone else is not. So what do the staff do? Use two people to help priority and leave the other 47 waiting even longer. Whoever designed that policy is completely incompetent and shouldn’t have the job that they do. An hour for a car rental. You’ve forever lost my business for suck ridiculous wait times. Fix it

I would leave 0 stars if I could. They charged several hundred dollars in hidden fees including a fee for smoking. I did not smoke in the car (I have never smoked in my life. The car smelled of smoke when we picked it up). The agent claimed I should have complained when we picked it up, but there was a line of at least 85 people being served by 2 agents. We had already waited 2.5 hours just to pick up the car. Do NOT rent from this company!!

I rented a car and was heading upstate. It was not driving well so I stopped and checked. The two front tires were bald. It was very dangerous and can't believe that they would do something like this. I filled out the survey to report it. We waited in line for 3 hours to pick up our vehicle. After we returned it a week later, we were erroneously charged an addition $667.20 for no apparent reason.

If renting from JFK you have to use the AVIS desk and they only focus of helping Avis Peferred and it doesn't matter if you are preferred if you are renting from Payless. The agents are terrible and rude, worst I have ever seen. The agent Tiffany was so rude and unhelpful. Wait time to pick up rental was 3 hours due to them only focusing on preferred. Very unpleasant experience. Car was fine once able to get.

JFK Airport Payless Rental is the worst rental vehicle experience I have ever had. The process and staff were awful. We waited an hour and 20 minutes in line and then another 40 minutes waiting for reserved vehicle. Never again. Should be 0 star. Not 1 star

Poor experience and I won't be using Payless again. My RSVP through partner American Airlines was disregarding, resulting in a higher rental rate and a new charge for insurance which I prepaid during my RSVP process. Now I have to call multiple parties to resolve an approximate 40% overcharge.

On top of the terrible service from passive aggressive staff who are probably overworked and understaffed, I was given a dirty car inside and out. Truly dirty and sticky with spilled milkshake in the cupholders sticky interior and grease on the seats. As a bonus the armrest held a free OPEN AND USED HYPODERMIC NEEDLE and suprise and free DRUGS! :( Not what I ever expected from an Avis location. Seems they need some retraining and motivation or new staff alltogether. Be careful out there rental cars have entered Mad Max territory!

I had a paid-in-advance reservation. Payelss office was closed during indicated business hours. All reservations were redirected to be handled by Avis. I spent one hour in line only to hear from the agent that he can't find my reservation. After another 20 minutes of arguing and searching they printed out my contract but the car wasn't ready. I waited another 30 minutes for the car and instead of picking up the car at 11 pm how I reserved it, I got my car around 1 am..!!! However, they didn't even bother to change the return time in the contract. After the so-called preparation, I got a dirty car! The Interior smelled horribly of cigarettes and was full of sticky disgusting spots. The windshield was dirty from the inside and the power buttons of the passenger seat were broken not allowing to move the seat. Horrible experience! The only easy thing was returning the car, but it doesn't override all other issues.
