I called ahead to ask if the notary was present. I then drove here during my lunch break to get paperwork required for my job notarized. I brought identification and money to pay a fee if required. The notary wasn't busy and never even looked at my documents, but proceeded to tell me that she couldn't notarize my paperwork because I didn't have an account with this bank. I had never heard of this "policy" before, notaries are supposed to be public servants. It was only later I did research and discovered that it's illegal in NY for a notary working in a bank to refuse someone because they don't have an account (New York Notary License Law section 195). I thought it would take 10 minutes, I then lost the next 2 hours going to 6 other banks/storefronts in search of a notary.I'm giving this place 5 stars because the employees were very nice. But I'm posting this negative review because the company hasn't responded to my complaints. I have a feeling New York Community Bank enforces a policy that's illegal because they don't want to pay people for performing their civic duty for "non customers." As such, I will never open an account here.

Yesterday I went into this bank and had the pleasure to meet Phyllis who was the worst. I was just trying to do a simple thing and she was able to get me to go to chase bank across the street. This was not what I wanted to do but with her attitude I decided that I will close all my accounts at this branch thanks to Phyllis
