Please DON’T BRING YOUR PETS HERE! CROOKS! I came bought my cat for 2 reasons, he wheezes, and the blue color from the pretty litter, which maybe mean he might have a UTi, I was charged $95 for a 3 min exam, he didn’t even get to check his ears , mouth, he told me.. then I was asked for another $80 for urine test, without even discussing anything with me about his check up, anyway so I’d get his results on Monday, so I get a phone call from Vet on Monday , saying he had crystals in his urine, which I had already knew, and I had to pay $180 for another urine test to see if he has UtI? So i said but what was the $80 for wasn’t that for The urine test on Friday? And nothing about his breathing!! Then recommend to go pay $50 for antibiotics without being sure if he has the UTi or not!!

Update 10/27/24:
Updating with another description of this animal hospital that my neighbor provided of their experience with their small dog. When they brought their dog in for a check up, they were initially in one exam room and briefed the staff about the reason for their appt. After the staff member gathered details and left the room to get the doctor, my neighbor and their dog were instructed to go to the smaller room by a ~different staff member.~
When they were seated in that second room, it WAS A MESS. There was smears of BLOOD from the previous patient left all over the exam table. There were uncleaned instruments on the counter and used cotton material left on the table and counter. My neighbor had sat there waiting for several minutes and no one came in to clean the room or exam table!
When the first girl returned with the doctor, they were shocked at how dirty and messy the room was left and apologized while cleaning up.
I couldn't believe what my neighbor told me that the staff had brought them and left them there with the BLOODY table and mess! My neighbor showed me photos.
Unpalatable how the assisting staff could be so careless. We are absolutely not retuning to this place again.
**Downgraded from 3 to 2 stars.
Review from my experience:
When called in for my appt, the assistant insisted on "helping" and tugged at my dog's harness without permission or confirmation from me to get my dog into the room.
In the room after the initial update with this assistant whom was actually pretty dismissive toward me when I was giving details, and when the doctor finally arrived (I waited an additional 20 mins), I explained that my dog is nervous (flighty, not fighty) and emphasized that I would have to lift my dog onto the table. As I know her best and is a way to minimize my dog's stress.
Again, the assistant was insistent on "helping" without confirmation or communication with me and went to "help" pick up my dog because this girl was rushing. SHE NEARLY DROPPED MY DOG as she carried the back half. I am fully capable of carrying my dog by myself.
The assistant has long brunette hair and wears glasses. I think she said her name is Suzy.
The doctor(s) are generally really helpful and listen so giving 3 stars, but this experience with the support staff was not a pleasant one. There was no exchange of rude words from me or the assistant but she was rushing and was not listening to the client, which is me. This was my first time seeing this person.
Also, I have witnessed whom I assume is the boss yell at a client over the phone by the waiting area where the front desk staff occupy.
I know the girls at reception wear blue but this person was wearing a different color uniform, and was really trying to intimidate the client over the phone. I haven't witnessed the girls being loud at all.
If she is the boss, does she not have an office to have this conversation in private?
Edit: It looks like someone from the hospital replied, as I notice it is a pattern - probably the manager?? I didn't mention anything about restraining or holding my dog during the exam. Again, I mentioned lifted my dog without consent and Suzy *nearly dropped my dog*. While thanks for the apology, but there was no miscommunication. I was clear about my dog's needs. It seems you want to cover your tracks. I am not ignorant to the fact of staff having to restrain the patient during the exam/treatment.
It wasn't our first visit to the Vet and I understand the necessary protocols the setting requires.
Yet, you have no response to this assistant nearly dropping my dog? And to her being dismissive, frankly rude, to me when I was relaying information for the appt.
It is apparent this staff member needs more professional training, or do you let her decide for the hospital how she can

Dr Birchler was incredible… I had to put my dog down and him and his staff did such a great job for my dogs final moments.

We took my Dog here this morning, they sent her home saying it’s a virus that would pass. My dog has unfortunately passed, it happened within hours of bringing her here. PLEASE do NOT bring your pets here. Now I can’t even get the vet on phone. I will be filing complaints, my dog deserved better and so did my family.

They used to be much better. Now the service quality is poor. I had been going there for years until recently. I have two cats, and one of them since kittenhood, I was told by a different vet clinic in my old neighborhood, that he likely had food allergies since he would vomit after eating any food with chicken. After I moved, I commented the same to them and they took it somewhat lightly but advised me on limited ingredient diets (we had been on royal PR but the vet here didn’t want to extend the prescription). In any case, fast forward 7 years, my same cat is experiencing terrible diarrhea, vomiting and inappetence. I rushed him in, and all I was told was that he’d been given anti diarrheal and fluids. I wasn’t given many answers as to what the hell was happening. We did x-ray and the cat hadn’t swallowed anything but that was about it. I commented on the inappetence and the doctor said since it had only been a few days he’d still be ok. My cat used to weight 19lbs in sept ‘23 when I took him for a regular check up. By April ‘24 he was quickly dropping weight. He was at 16lbs bc he wasn’t eating much of anything without vomiting. My instinct told me to take him elsewhere because I was not gonna receive any answers here, but they def charged me $500 for the x-ray and fluids. My cat had had blood work prior, in sept, and in April when I took him. Bloodwork showed amylase higher than normal. That however never triggered any curiosity here. I ended up taking my pet to Bondvet at forest hills for a second opinion, and that very likely saved his life. We struggled a lot. My cat lost 8 lbs in 2 months but I can tell you that he was thoroughly examined, every test that was called for was ordered and done. Just as I had mentioned before, which was in the cat’s medical records, my cat likely suffers from a poultry allergy which triggers what appears to be IBD. I strongly believed that had I stayed at lefferts AH, my Rio would no longer be with me today.
In the end, it is a bit more affordable than bond vet, but I would’ve ended up paying $500 for a x ray at bond vet if I had gone earlier and they would’ve actually been able to give me answers and treatment options. Bond vet is the hero in this story, and Dr Diaz saved my cat with her patience, professionalism, caring and true diagnostic seeking steps. Lefferts now seems like a negligent money grabbing scheme.
My Rio is now back on track to being a happy elder. He’s been on corticosteroids for a bit and it was quite a turn around for him. I now know that beef, which is what he was eating when the episode began, cause him allergic inflammation and trigger IBD. Just take care if you go the lefferts. They might not either know to properly diagnose or they might not care. I’m glad I sought a second opinion.

I will start with the staff was amazing. So caring, loving and really felt for my cats comfort. I decided to keep him there to make sure my buddy was ok...over $2,000 later they sent him home 10x worse than when I brought him in. He was so high on opioid pain medication that they gave him he died 4 days later. I was hoping the pain meds would wear off, called the vet and got anti neasous medication and specialized food. But Nope he died! I will never bring a animal back to this place. They look at money, not health

I truly do not know what happened to this place and its doctors. I used to take my dogs here and was so happy that they were in such great hands. My most recent visit was absolutely horrific, I took my dog in because I was scared she may have contracted rabies, when I asked the Vet if there was any way to test for rabies, his response was “yeah we can euthanize her take a piece of her brain out and then test it for you” That was so unnecessary, the vet could’ve simply said we cannot test for rabies in living animals. Furthermore, I requested the process for possibly getting my dogs checked out for anxiety as they’re big dogs and are reactive and sometimes don’t do well in vet offices. His response was “we are careless owners and need to train our dogs better and don’t know how to handle our dogs, and meds won’t fix it, he don’t think they’re anxious they’re just poorly trained, because we are taking them out of their natural habitat” What is a dogs natural habitat? I’ve owned German shepherds my whole life, I’ve never been treated this way in a doctors office. Not only did I feel terrible as a person but I did not appreciate the lack of empathy or the judgmental comments made about my German shepherds. I went there worried about my pups and came out feeling worse because of such terrible treatment from a “professional”. I will never go back here, so disrespectful, unprofessional and unhinged.

I would not bring your pet here if you value your time or getting proper care for your pet. I have been bringing my cat here for 5+ years. I am very disappointed with how their service and standard of care has been over the last year. I've been coming in a lot because my cat has kidney disease and I've been made to wait 20-30 minutes just to pay the bill, that's on top of the 20+ minutes I have to wait just to get into the exam room. These were on weekdays in the morning when there were only 2 others in the waiting room. And then the time spent examining my cat is 10 minutes AT MOST. When is it normal at any doctor's office to wait more than 5 minutes just to pay your bill? You walk out, you go up to the counter and square up. It's not like I don't want to pay. It's simply inconsiderate of people's jobs and lives.
Last time I just walked out because I didn't want to be late for work, expecting them to send me a bill and that I could then just pay online or by mail. I received the bill but they have no website or account to accept electronic payments. So I'd have to waste more time going back in person to pay the bill...come on, it's 2024.
I took my cat to another vet in the area for coughing and unrelated to that, the doctor found a grade 4 heart murmur and a mass in the stomach that no one at Lefferts ever detected. On top of that, Lefferts was holding my cat's records hostage because of $125, so this vet couldn't diagnose those issues further than with just an X-ray.
This was after I had said I would pay the outstanding bill at this next appointment I needed to schedule for the coughing, and they wouldn't even let me schedule an appointment over $125... They did offer to take payment by phone, but I was too frustrated. Their suggestion was "make the appointment on a day when you're free." Then why are you open on weekdays if you want everyone to come in on the weekend and waste all their free time? So no one can make an appointment in the time they have before they go to work?
Mind you, I don't care about the money, and I have been coming here paying all the bills same day and IN PERSON for 5 years, check my name in your records. But it doesn't matter that I've spent thousands of $ here, they'd rather let my cat suffer than do me a solid this one time.

Normally I have mixed experiences here with the vets. However, I met Dr. Mistry for the first time today and she quite possibly the best vet I've met. She's so knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. She's the exact type of person who should be a vet. She explains everything thoroughly and she really cares. Going forward, I will go out of my way to see her again. I know my golden Knox loved her too.

I only have words of gratitude for the hospital and the staff, they are always very attentive to my pet and offer the best services, they have affordable prices that help a lot with animals, you can see the love for our dog children, it is the best hospital for queens dogs, thank you for always helping my pet and for being able to return me home in peace with my dog son RAKU.

Visited this location because my regular vet was unavailable and my dog needed to be seen right away. The vet ended up giving my doggo a look over with a sonogram without charging me after her X-rays didn’t seem too concrete. Would visit again. They fit me in the next day. I feel like the services given were appropriately priced.

I decided to go in as a walk in after my puppy got into an accident and they accommodated us so well (they are usually appointment based) without waiting too long. Once inside with the vet assistant, the young lady made me feel so comfortable and helped me relax a little — my anxiety was very high and my emotions were all over the place seeing my puppy in pain. The doctor was also amazing, she discussed the next steps we needed to follow and made me feel that my puppy was in good hands. I appreciate the care they provided with my puppy and the way they assured me throughout the whole process. It was my first time being in this office, but definitely will be back for wellness check ups. Recommend!
