I always have such a positive experience when I rent a vehicle from Hertz at JFK. I was fortunate enough to have encountered the associate, Joy, for 2 interactions. On each occasion ,she provided exceptional service and gave me reassurance that I was in good hands. Great Job!

Showed up at 12 o'clock at night and waited in line for 40 minutes.
Since my back hurt and it was difficult for me to stand in line, I came and left. And when it was my turn, the employee asked if I was standing in line. The people who stood behind me said with one voice that I did not stand in line.
I don’t know if this is connected with anti-Semitism or what.
Terrible service. As a result, I stood with a sore back for another 40 minutes.
I won't order here again.

Terrible. Over an hour in line and then no car ready. Customer service couldn’t care less

Good customer service, but just one employee for
10 customer. Need more crew members! We had to wait a hour long. Even with as a gold member status!

I am a hertz presidents circle member. I came to hertz JFK after a long flight and the line of people waiting for cars was tremendous and there were no cars. But Karen was exceptionally sweet and caring. And she took care of me 100% unfortunately I couldn’t get the size car I wanted but Karen really tried hard to get it done BIG SHOUT OUT TO KAREN!!!!! SHE DESERVES A RAISE!!!

Easy to reach, uncomplicated handover, the return at JFK works sensationally. Clear five star recommendation, if you rent a car in New York then only with Hertz!

I'm still waiting for the billing today. I was also billed for some insurance that I never wanted. Of course I also presented a corresponding letter when I picked it up...

I had such a comically bad experience at this Hertz location that I feel compelled to share it here. If anything, this is mostly for me to remember this experience, because after a few days of reflection, it truly was just laugh-out-loud funny.
Like, is any place more confused when you arrive to, you know, **Rent a Car**, than at Hertz Rent-A-Car?
My story: I'm a Gold member. Doesn't mean much but whatever. Arrive Thursday night around 10. Email instructions say: find my name on the board and the parking spot of your car. Great. Find name. Next to my name? "Five Stars". Ok, that's not a parking spot, but whatever.
We're looking for whatever "five stars" mean. Trying to avoid checkout line, but my wife gets in it just in case. Hey, Tom Brady said I could go right to my car! (lol). Finally find some guy - we'll call him 'Hat'. Hat tells me "Five Stars" means the cars in the 200 row. Not sure I understand, but great! Arrive at 200 row. No cars there. Hat is so, so confused. That can't be right!
But, there's one car in an unclear parking spot with the keys in it that I assume will be fine (some economy buick or whatever - this was clearly not an upgrade). I start to load it up.
Hat says absolutely not! But not because I can't take it - it is available! - but because he NEEDS to find the right car for me - apparently i specifically requested a mid-size sedan. I repeatedly said I didn't care, any car will work, it's late, etc. But all good, sedans are everywhere, so I assume it'll be a short wait til he brings one around. Chevys, Volvos, etc, as far as I can see.
Then, Hat leaves me and my wife alone for 45 minutes to find that mid-size sedan. Him and three other employees were just wandering back and forth through the parking lot doing everything but getting customers in cars. Plenty (!) of cars available. Me and maybe one other family waiting for a car. This is it on a slow night... what's it like when it's busy??
The funniest part: During this time, there's an argument among Hertz employees about where an employee parked a car. A nice one too: a new Jeep Wagoneer in white. They ask that Employee to move the car a spot over. He says why can't he just leave it there? They insist he move it.
This employee - I swear i'm not making this up - takes that nice Jeep Wagoneer for an actual rage/joy ride in the parking lot. Red-lining the engine, full throttle, tires squeeling, driving back and forth endlessly, probably 50-60mph in a tight garage. We're sleepy and confused and couldn't process what was happening. Looking back it was just crazy. Truly insane behavior and I wished I filmed it. If anyone got a white Jeep Wagoneer here, it's not your fault if it breaks, LOL. He finally whips it around a corner, going full Tokyo Drift mode, and parks the car. Clutch and tires smell everywhere.
I remind myself: I'm just here to rent a basic car. What is happening??
So 1 hour passes of us not getting a car but at least we had the entertainment of witnessing this employee take a car for a joy (rage) ride. Finally, Hat comes back and tell us to get in a car that was, you know, parked right next to us the whole time. Keys already inside it. Old Black Chevy Crossover. Guess we couldn't find that sedan among the sea of sedans.
End of the story? Nope. Lol. We drive to the gate that keeps the rental cars inside. Employee stops us for the final check out. He says - and i quote - "Where did you get this car? Who gave this car to you?" As if we just took a random employee car or stole a car. He can't find whatever thing he needs to "scan". He's making half a dozen calls to understand what could have possibly just happened. 20 minutes pass and we find it - it was on the keys

Had to update this review from 5 stars to 2. My last rental was 8/17 and I rented an EV. I prepaid for my car and when I got to the location, I waited in line with a bunch of other people waiting for their car. After 1 1/2 hour wait, I finally get a car and when asked for a charger, agent stated if there is t one in the car you don't get one. I told the agent that was unacceptable as I charge the car at my grandma's house, plus I was doing a road trip and rented houses on Air BNB to charge the EV, which saves me money. The agent showed me a device that was not the charger, it was for powering your electric devices, but told me that's it. Wanting to get out of there, I didn't question it or investigate it further. I've never had a problem getting a charger like this. It cayuse anxiety on my trip because it was hard to find stations to charge in some areas. On top of all this, I took a survey and asked Hertz to call me to discuss what happened. 3 days later no call. I'm a 5-star member and feel like I got better service as a good member. I like Hertz but the last 2 rentals I've had issues at JFK and in Rome.

Stephan gave us amazing customer service!
We were tired from long travel days and it was getting late.
Stephan was friendly, informative, and efficient. He gave us helpful tips and made great recommendations. He also made sure the vehicle perfectly suited our needs.
I will be sending a personal note of thanks to make sure his supervisors know that they have a wonderful employee!

So slowly, I reserved the car online at 9:30, I literally waited until 10:30 to get the car. The counter opened 2/9, I have no idea why they do that. And the staff apparently do not understand the whole process. Horrible experience I ever met
