The lady with the blonde hair (and bangs) is the sweetest and most welcoming lady ever! I had such a nice experience here.

Very nasty people, and very rude. I wouldn’t by a pet there even if it was free . The lady I spoke to was also a racist person. Very bad energy as soon as I walked in the door.

Horrible experience with the owner Helen. DO NOT GO HERE! She demonstrated a discriminatory manner towards my family and made the entire experience a negative one. She was extremely rude. She was UNHELPFUL and I will never be returning here nor would I recommend this place to anyone else. I feel bad for the poor animals within this community

My daughter and I visited this kitten sanctuary and I have to say that this is the most clean and loved place of all. From the moment you walk you are greeted with welcome smiles and patience. The owner is purrrfect at her job she knows all of her fur babies by name and knows all cats personalities, she best matches you depending on your adopting needs. The adults cats are all very sociable and roam free purring at all the guest and the kittens are safe playing in their clean kennels. I witness the owner spoon feed some tiny kittens so that they gain healthy weight. I filled an application for a pair of kittens and I was asked all normal questions, all the kittens have been saved from high kill shelters or terrible conditions and I feel happy that the owner has a strong application process so no cat or kitten ever has to go back and instead is safely placed in a forever loving family. When you ask any members of the staff any medical question regarding a cats health they are very knowleadgeble speacially on the first months of their lives when they are very the most vulnerable they will let guide you and make sure how to properly care of your adoptee. Overall I recommend any family if you are thinking of making the life time commintment to adopt, also support this shelter as they are angels on earth for any 4 paws in need of love.

Helen is a despicable person and has no business working with animals or people. I don't want to say too much as I don't want to give my Identity. I'll put it this way, don't go in there with a serious, but treated illness because she will use it as one of her reasons ss to not let you adopt a cat.

I recently fostered a female kitten and was left in pieces when I had to return her. I immediately wanted to adopt a female kitten to try and mend my shattered heart. I searched the internet like a "crazy cat lady" would and found Long Beach Humane Society. I called and was told I needed to fill out an application online, which I did......I received a call 3 days after stating that I needed to send my dog's medical records stating that he was neutered. They then approved me, I was so excited. The staff was welcoming and a bit hesitant at first, but after they saw me with a cat that I wanted and the connection we made, they were thrilled. Peggy is such a loving person, I can see it in the way she treats the innocent little lives around her. I feel better knowing that people like Peggy are present in this world. I can understand why she's the way she is about her little fur babies. All the ladies are amazing. This is a great place if you want to adopt a pet that's well cared for. Peggy even pleaded with me to update her on my little babies progress. She gave me her cell phone number, now that shows commitment. My baby's name is Joan and I Love her sooooo much.

We called looking for help finding an adoptive family for a cat that belonged to a recently deceased family member. The lady was so unbelievably rude and said no they don’t take in cats because it’s inhumane and cruel and that we should post on Facebook and find a family ourselves. After explaining we are from Indiana and don’t know anybody in Long Island who would even see it she tried to shame us for not taking the cat home with us even though we literally cannot because of our other pets. Made my wife cry because she already feels terrible about having to re-home her aunts cat. Just absolutely disgusting, mean behavior and a horrible way to treat people.

I submitted an application the day after my cat of 14 years passed. I got a call from Helen and she asked a few questions which I answered to the best of my knowledge. She ask "did you bring your Pet to a Vet" (answered YES) and then ask "was he fully vaccinated" (answered YES) does not mean he got vaccinated by the Vet.Helen assumed that and when she spoke to Vet they told her no. She called me and accused me of lying. I said you asked "was" he vaccinated not "where" (at Petco cheaper then Vet). You see when you are incompetent and lack intelligence you ask the wrong question... you get the wrong answer... and then you make an erroneous assumption and believe your conclusion is true when it is not.She then said "you didn't call the Vet and tell them he died". Like I am some kind if devil. He just passed Monday its thursday and Why would I tell them. They did nothing wrong.Helen is an insensative control freak.Stay away!TO YOUR REPLY... you are a liar... I was approved by Hempsead and adopted

No follow up to my application. Certainly not friendly. I happily adopted somewhere else. Such a shame used to be such a lovely place but the current mgmt is not doing all they can to facilitate adoptions in perfectly adequate homes

If you want to adopt a cat this isn’t the place to go. I wanted to get a rescue cat from a local shelter but the woman in charge made it impossible. She immediately said they were FIV positive even though the website listing said they weren’t. It felt as though she was trying to discourage us. She seemed to look for reasons to not let us adopt. She also took a deposit on the kittens and never mentioned that it wasn’t refundable if they decided not to let me adopt the cats. She actually never mentioned the money at all after she found a reason to not give us the cats. I’ve adopted from numerous organizations over my lifetime and this was probably my worst experience. The volunteers were very helpful and kind and seemed to want the cats adopted. Overall a sad experience.

Went on pet finder, found a kitten we really liked and would get along with our cat we have at home. Drove all the way there to find the kitten and brother had feline aids. They did not disclose that, until we were there. Cannot put my cat at risk. They should have disclosed that in their ad. Beautiful kittens, sorry I couldn't take them.

My fiance and I visited and fell in love with a kitten who had just arrived the day before, and we wanted to adopt her for our resident cat who’s been longing for a companion. We visited twice in the same day, met with two groups of volunteers, and filled out an application in-paper and online. We held the little kitten in our arms, who constantly purred, showed so much love, and seemed like a perfect fit for our resident cat and our family. We were probably the first to apply for her and had the full support of the wonderful volunteers, who hoped with us that we could eventually adopt her.The problems started when the director, Helen, whom we never met in person, called to go over our application. She seemed to fixate on us being in our mid-twenties and seemed to have formed an opinion about us already without having asked many questions. She nitpicked on the fact that we wrote down we lived in an “owned” home, even though the home was technically not under our name, but under my mother’s. And while this was a somewhat valid concern, she proceeded to question us making the conversation essentially like an interrogation. We explained that we’ve taken care of our 3 year old cat since she was abandoned as a 3 month old kitten, and that we checked off “owned” home to mean that our landlord, aka my mother, was fine with us getting another kitten. She snidely told us that the difference matters. Helen, having already formed her opinion, proceeded to end the conversation and say that she “still needed to look everything over” and will get back to us.We were pretty determined to adopt the kitten we fell in love with, so we kept in constant contact with the shelter. We found out that our current indoor cat was missing one dose of the FVRCP vaccination and so we got her the vaccine within the next 2 days and immediately emailed the proof as well as her 3 years of medical paperwork. However, our emails went unanswered and Helen was never available via phone.About a week went by and I was finally able to reach Helen, who promptly said that the kitten was “already due to be adopted out.” She then curtly said other cats were available, but as you can imagine, we were devastated. It was then I went on Google Reviews and saw the slew of other reviews here that I saw that this was a recurring issue. We understand the need for strict screening to ensure adopters are qualified and understand the responsibility of bringing in another pet, as well as to ensure shelter animals aren’t returned, but the whole process left us with such a bad feeling. We understand that us having to update our cat’s vaccinations probably put us further down the line of adopters, but we firmly believe the cards were already unfairly stacked against us due to misconceptions about us.Please, by all means visit the Humane Society and consider adopting from them. We just wanted to warn future adopters about the interrogation process with her. It just hurt us that we were falsely judged in the first place, intensely interrogated about whether we could provide a safe and loving home, and that the kitten we fell in love with ultimately couldn’t be ours. We ended up adopting another cat from Posh Pets and not only was the process so streamlined for them, it has been a month and we still have constant contact with the director and assigned counselor for updates/questions and are constantly reminded of how much they support us and care about flourishing our relationship with our adopted cat. With all this being said, the cats at the Humane Society are clearly well taken care of. The cats seemed very happy, everything was clean and there was ample space for the cats to run around. The volunteers we met were all very professional, friendly, welcoming, and kind. It is very clear they love volunteering and truly care and know each cat.

This place is disgusting! Whoever their receptionist is should be locked up! I reached out about giving up my grandmothers elder cat (she passed & im allergic). The way she talks to you over the phone is so rude & condescending! She tried to make me seem like the devil for not being able to keep an animal BECAUSE I AM ALLERGIC! I would never recommend anyone to go here, they’re not good people! If i could leave 0 stars i would! I don’t know how they’re in business. I’m convinced the good reviews are from personal friends/family because i don’t know who could sit through the process with these a holes!
