Went into Costello’s Ace Hardware in Island Park looking for a particular product. I was helped by JOE who went out of his way to search for it, find it, and allowed me to walk out as a very satisfied customer! The man deserves a raise and commendation for outstanding customer service!

I would rate Costello's Ace Hardware on Island Park, NY one star were it not for two primary reasons. One is Dave. The other is Maryann. Dave has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Ace. He has intercepted me many times as i stood in front of a bewildering wall of product, scratching my head, trying to ascertain which I needed for my project. His advice has always been spot on. Most recently, I was looking for fluorescent bulbs for my ancient shop lights. Dave suggested LED bulbs that would work in my fixtures instead for better color and longevity. His explanation turned a two bulb sale into an eight bulb sale ($20.00 increased to $80.00). I couldn't be happier. Once installed they were perfect. Maryanne usually handles my online/ curbside pickup orders. She is always cheerful, makes my day and my orders are always accurately picked, complete and occasionally repriced to reflect a sale price that had escaped my notice.Ace Hardware earns one star based on their fiasco of a Rewards Program I have screenshots of 3066 rewards points changing to 566 rewards points 24 hours later the back up to 10,323 rewards points 12 days later. Oh, and these 10,000+ points are worth all of $20.00 in savings. So one star to Ace Hardware for running a rewards scam and four additional stars for the outstanding customer service I have experienced at the Island Park, NY location.

$5.50 for a redbull that's quite a rip-off.I already expect items to be pricier than a regular hardware store and big box stores, and they certainly are. yet getting rip-off on they way out felt nasty.

I came in looking to a few specific items and there were plenty of people in the store but no one was "available". I finally found one woman to help and she immediately went on the walkie and said she was "stuck helping a customer". I didn't realize doing your job was such an inconvenience while clocked in. Then the next person to help me guided me to the right location of the store and had to ask someone else for help which is find but the other person was busy talking to another associate and seemed bothered to help. Then at the register there was no line but I stood there for a good few mins before the person was like do you need help? meanwhile they were talking to another associate and I'm just like you're the one preoccupied he proceeded to gossip while checking me out. There were at least 10 people in the front of the store doing nothing just talking meanwhile I spent like 30 mins walking around trying to find things. I don't know what happened to customer service. You're clocked in getting paid to do a job not gossip at the register or be visibly inconvenienced when asked for help. I've worked retail I understand but like there's a fine line between having a hard day and dealing with belligerent customers to assuming your day is going to be difficult or annoying and then approaching the day like that.
