I have been using Carl-Fern for 20 years. They do great work and, most importantly, they are honest. They never try to sell you on something you don’t need and always make sure their customers are taken care of. Whether you need an inspection or rebuilt engine, I’d recommend Carl-Ferm in Holbrook.

Worst auto mechanic I have ever been to, tried charging me almost $500 for a powered side view mirror. Found same part on eBay brand new for less than $100 and with parts and labor it should be at most $200. Avoid at all costs, save your money for an honest mechanic that actually does honest work. Lots of people on Long Island that actually provide good work for a good price.

I brought my vehicle here to receive it's 40,000 mile maintenance service (which included various fluids checked and/or changed). After picking it up I noticed a humming noise and immediately returned. I was told to drop it off first thing the next morning. I dropped it off at 9am and when i didn't hear from them all day, I called @4:45pm. I was told they didn't get a chance to check out my car but they would be on it first thing the following morning. The next day a friend of mine, who works in the vicinity of this shop, called to tell me that my car had been parked out front all day and still hasn't moved as of 4pm. I called immediately without letting them know that my friend was able to see my car from her job. I was told that unfortunately my car needed both front axles replaced and it would be unsafe for me to drive before doing so, that I must have hit a curb or two causing this damage. They actually said they were just taking my car off the lift now. Long story short, after having my husband take my car to another shop, the axles were perfectly fine, all I needed was the front pass wheel bearing replaced. Problem 100% solved for a fraction of the price. THESE GUYS ARE DISHONEST, OPPORTUNISTIC CROOKS! Women beware, they will use deceitful tactics to pressure you into getting unnecessary work- and that's the only department where these guys are pros!Services: General repairs & maintenance

If I could give this review 0 stars I would. My sons car a 2009 Saturn had stop working and spoke with John (great guy). Was able to get my vehicle towed to their shop. The issue was the starter and John had quoted me 450 for the work. This is where things get confusing, first the part that was ordered was the wrong one and I had to wait over the weekend for the correct part to come in. Again here I am thinking 450 for a starter replacement, seems a bit steep, but I will talk to the guys when I get my vehicle from the shop. I wait until Monday 5/15 and go to get my car. I also asked that the car get checked for a potential coolant leak and was told there was none, but I asked to please double check. As I arrive and wait to get my car checked for the leak, I ask one of the workers, foreman, whatever a question on pricing for the starter and why would it be 253 DOLLARS for a starter that runs anywhere under 100 bucks. He got super offended and began to yell at me that if I wanted the starter removed he will remove it and that I can install my own starter. I told the guy to take it easy it was only a question and that I would speak to John when he returned. I tried to negotiate the price as it was originally 450 but was told that it is now 485, I gave 200 in cash and asked if we could negotiate to 450 total with the other half on card. Again John being the nice guy try to help me but Carl began to yell at him for this. I find that the price for the starter was 1 outrageous and 2 the business for being in this location and calling themselves a neighborhood mechanic is that of unfair price gauging. I would have buyer beware when coming here. This was and will be my last time at this shop as they definitely rip you off with pricing. Then want to yell and talk to you as if you are complete moron. I will not tolerate being spoken to like this, even as a small business owner myself. I hope you guys realize how you price out your services and look out for people especially during times that we are living in today.

When I lived in Holbrook I used this repair shop all the time and never had an issue. Recently I moved to Selden. I've been using Firestone for most things.. shame on me. They weren't bad at all. I recently bought a new to me car(2015 Chrysler) and brought it into Firestone who is very honest and said they suggest I take my car to Chrysler. I tried Carl Fern and was happy as ever .. it was a small issue(fuel injector) they fixed it and there were no problems. Shame on me for going to Firestone which wasn't bad but... I think I will stay at Carl fern. The office / waiting room now has AC and a TV so it's quite comfortable to wait. Again I will not go anywhere else they are going to be my first visit. Thanks to the owners and mechanics that keep my cars going at a fair price... ALWAYS I also read the negative reviews which I am very surprised at. I've used this place for 15 years and I can honestly say I have never never had an issue with money or the people that work there .they seem like honest hard-working people. I absolutely recommend this shop.

EXCELLENT! Friendly, accommodating, priced right, fast service and they are thorough! I live in Wading River and come all the way to Holbrook for car repairs. Nobody beats them and with 2 teenagers driving older cars, I have had plenty of experience.Services: Brakes

This is an excellent auto repair shop.The prices are the lowest and the mechanics are 1st rate.The entire shop has been redone within a year.They have 5 bays and 4 lifts.Give it a try.You won't regret it
