They're very friendly and helpful here. I don't know anything about hardware or home repair, but they never make me feel like I'm asking dumb questions. Today I dropped my car keyfob on the street and it stopped working. I thought I'd be spending the day waiting for AAA, but I went to Hastings Paint and Hardware and asked if they could help, and the man at the front desk took it apart, put it back together correctly, and didn't charge me a cent. I'm very thankful. Most of the negative reviews here on Yelp refer to the previous ownership. The people who work there now are terrific.

If i could give it negative stars, i would. I went in today because the shower curtain rod my husband bought doesn't work. Instead of trying to help me, the senior guy in the store (the owner?) inserted himself in the conversation and proceeded to humiliate me by telling me there was nothing wrong with it. As a crowd of men gathered around, he continued to "mansplain" why I was wrong and he was right. Arrogance, condescension compounded by misogyny. I am certain that would not have happened if my husband had gone in, or if he has been with me. I am usually a big proponent of shopping local but not this place.

Please notice that most of the really negative reviews are from years ago. That said, I completely believe what Kate wrote. My experience is that the present management is courteous, competent and helpful. I'm in the store 2 times a month or more and am very pleased to have them here in Hastings. They give me 5 star service but I'm male. I think the problem lies with one employee and not the others. Under the previous ownership, there were some exceptionally helpful people and one total j**** I just avoided the j*** and received exceptional service.

Best local hardware store. Very friendly and helpful. They always have what I need. Plenty of parking nearby. Definitely my "go to" hardware store.

This store should go out of business. They charge an extra 3.99% when using credit or debt. However, the guy at the cash register didn't know how to process a debt card and made a woman in front of me wait, while the manager didn't come over to help. When I asked why the manager didn't come, push the correct key, and made the woman and me wait, the cashier told me I didn't need to wait!!! The antithesis of a small town hardware store!!!! So, I went to Dobbs, where they were helpful, fast and took my credit card without additional payment.

Hastings Paint & Hardware did and amazing job painting the interior of our entire house. Caesar and his team worked hard, were neat and easy to work with even when we asked for color changes. We absolutely love the new colors and how the house looks!

I had an issue with a recessed electrical box and the gentlemen that assisted me went out of his way to find a solution. In the end, he sold me some longer screws, which, obviously was not a money-making sale but he gave it the same attention he would to someone spending a lot more money. I love the store, it's clean and well organized. The best part is the staff, they're knowledgable, professional and polite.
