I've been dreading writing this review because I had to put my cat down here, but it's time. I came across Good Ground while looking for a nearby vet to bring my cat to when she suddenly stopped eating and drinking. My cat has had kidney disease for the past few years along with other issues that I'd been managing fairly successfully with medications, but I could tell something was really wrong and needed to find someone to take her to while I was out here (we live in Astoria). I chose Good Ground due to proximity and the fact that they had an appointment available later that day. I called my vet in Astoria to forward over her records so they'd have all the info and know her health had been on the decline. It was a long wait from the time we got there until we were seen, and when Dr. Swanson finally saw her she didn't seem to know anything about my cat's history even though I'd forwarded the records. I filled her in, and she recommended bloodwork and a urinalysis to learn more about what was going on, as well as giving her some fluids and a shot of antibiotics since her urine looked cloudy. I asked the vet if there was any food she recommended for cats in this state to entice them to eat. She recommended some kind of organic food you could only order online...I was looking for something that was easily accessible that was palatable. My cat didn't improve and got worse, so the next afternoon I was eager to talk to someone to find out what the bloodwork had found. The front desk person told me that the vet usually calls at the end of the day to talk about bloodwork but again I reminded her that my cat had not eaten or drank anything in days and that this situation is more urgent than that, that I'd want to bring her back in today if something could or couldn't be done. I finally heard back from the vet who confirmed my worst suspicions -- her kidney disease had progressed dramatically, and on top of that she had a terrible UTI. The vet kept calling my cat a he during this time which was also upsetting on top of getting this news, wasn't her gender anywhere in these results? She then talked about hospitalizing my cat for three days and giving her an IV to flush out her kidneys. I ask what the outcome of that would be. Best case, she tells me my cat lives another month and then we're right back where we are now. Worst case, my cat gets hospitalized for three days, comes home and crashes and we have to put her down anyway. I guess don't really know how folks are out here about their pets. I know it's the Hamptons, so maybe people here feel more inclined to throw money at the problem. But money aside (my insurance would've covered it), I couldn't imagine putting my cat through a hospital stay and have her last days of life be spent in a strange place which I know she hates, only to have her die a day later anyway. I was surprised that I had to be the one to bring euthanasia up in this conversation and not the vet. While I was waiting for this bloodwork, I had called my vet in Astoria who agreed that euthanasia was likely the best option for my cat at this stage. If you've had a pet for as long as I had my cat (14 years), you know when something is really, really wrong. Throughout her illness I'd always been so afraid I wouldn't know when the right time to put her down would be. If you have a chronically ill pet, I can promise you, you'll know. I will say that putting my cat down here was the kindest experience it could have been. The entire staff were extremely respectful and communicative during every part of the process. They even gave me a plaque with her pawprints imprinted in it as well as a paper with her ink prints. I don't know that Good Grounds is the best option in an emergency situation, but I do think that for more straightforward, non-emergent issues it would be a decent vet choice.

My first visit to this wonderful veterinary practice as well as my first and likely only google or yelp review. From my initial call until the conclusion of my visit today, there wasn’t a break in communication or task unexecuted flawlessly in a professional, knowledgeable, friendly manner in a somewhat complex process I needed executed. International Health Certificate. Exceptional! And I believe Ford showed his enthusiasm as well. Job well done to all. Clients and their pets were terrific as well. Thank you.

I am appalled at their lack of care and compassion for the comfort of animals. They are clearly just interested in making money. Cash grabbers. I needed my dogs anal glands expressed after she had a full examination last month in New York City and they wouldn’t do it unless they could make money on a full examination! Disgusting!!! I told them I would have my veterinarian email them and confirm that she has been cared for and vaccinated but they did not want to hear it. They just want money!!!!

Dr. Stanbock is quite honestly the best veterinarian we’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing & bearing witness to caring for our pups, whether for well visits & check ups to a recent trauma of our lab being struck by a hit & run. He is so knowledgeable and thorough but not an alarmist; he just gets it and is 100% in the right vocation. I wish he could be the doctor for the humans in our family too. His entire staff is second to none (well, Tracey and Dr. Meekins at the shelter definitely have the calling, care & competence too, and yesterday and today we were reminded of the good people of East Quogue and that it indeed, takes a village. We are humbled and grateful and extend out heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part in getting our pups home safe & sound; but as far as a full service veterinarian, Good Ground Hospital is without question, the only place to take your beloved furry children. I would love to mention the staff by name whether it’s making an appointment, taking out a catheter, listening to us fretting and ruminating and calming us with informed answers and plans for healing, Dr. Stanbock, Jen, Monica, Ashley and forgive me for not remembering the two technicians’ names from today, but every one of them have equal parts competence and compassionate caring hearts. Thank you for your grace. Here’s to paying it forward and lifting each other up.

I am so very disappointed in this animal hospital and the care we received. We brought In a very sick feral cat that we found. They explained to us it would cost a lot of money to do blood work up and x-rays, and they suggested that we put the cat down. He was a least over ten years old. We agreed that would be the best scenario due to how ill he was. We decided to cremate his remains. Nothing was told to us about pricing so when we went to pay the bill they had charged us 400.00. I was so shocked at this and could not believe this enormous bill. No compassion just pay the bill. Here i am trying to do the right thing and was very willing to pay something but this to me was outrageous. SO MUCH FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

I can't say enough about Dr. Spanbock and his staff. My German Shepard has many issues. He used to get irritable at his last vet, because they were afraid of him. It was always stressful to go just for a simple visit. At Good Ground he is calm and let's them do what they have to. They are calm, caring people. I couldn't be more grateful for there professional mannerism. I am so relieved that I have a place to go, that I can trust 100 percent. Thank you so much.

Been coming here a few years and have been pleased. But today I found out they have jumped on the $3 charge for credit card payment bandwagon. So many pets being turned in to shelters cause people can't afford them and now an extra charge!! At a vet's office!! Really!! Got my dogs records and NEVER going back. Very disgusted with these so called compassionate vets...
