In 1999, Horst Small Engine & Auto Repair fixed the transmission on my Ford Escort. It's been almost 25 years, and I never forgot their kindness. I live in a different area, but I would use them again. Totally recommend! btw- that old car ran for years after. Thank you <3

I take both my riding mower and hand mower to Melvin every year for annual maintenance.This past April my Husqvarna rider would not start. At the time Melvin was hampered by a pulled muscle in his shoulder. That did not stop him however, from helping me out. I run a vacation rental here in the Finger Lakes and I needed the mower fast as I had renters coming in just 2 days.Melvin quickly diagnosed the problem: a broken camshaft in the engine. His wife Arlene immediately called me with the news! Arlene ordered the part and it was delivered the next day. Melvin fixed my mower engine that same day. Arlene called to tell me I was all set. I picked up my mower and mowed my very large lawn just in time before my renters arrived the next day.I cannot say enough about Melvin. He is an outstanding master of his trade. I've never seen anyone as knowledgeable and thorough as he. I am grateful to know that I can always count on Melvin and Arlene whenever I need service !

I cannot say enough good things about Horst's. Melvin and Arlene are the kindest, most wonderful older couple you can imagine. My car began overheating while I was visiting some wineries on Cayuga Lake the Saturday of Easter weekend. Thankfully, Horst's was open on Saturday until 5:30. I hobbled my car to the garage, but I couldn't get there until 5:00. They got it in and took at look at it, and diagnosed a blown radiator right away. I completely expected that they wouldn't be able to work on it until Monday, so I started making plans to spend the weekend away from home. Instead, Arlene called the local auto parts store, and found out that they had the part in stock. Unfortunately, the store had sent all of their delivery people home for the weekend, so Arlene drove into town herself to pick up the new radiator. At the same time, Melvin took out the old radiator, so when Arlene got back, they immediately set to putting in the new one. At this point, it was already past 6:00. Working side by side, they quickly got the new radiator in, along with the fans. Everything was back in place by 6:45, but Melvin insisted we take the car for a test drive to make sure they had solved the overheating problem. The two of us drove through some of the farmland around the shop, and everything seemed back in working order. When we got back, he even insisted on double checking to make sure nothing was leaking. They stayed at the shop until 7:00 to get me back on the road so I could be with my family for Easter, and then thanked me for bringing my car to them. On top of all that, their price for all this was more than fair. I cannot express in words how grateful I am for Melvin and Arlene Horst. Not only were they great at fixing my car, and willing to stay late on a holiday weekend to help someone in need, they reminded me of how incredibly kind people can be. If you are ever in need of help on your car (or small engine), go to Horst's. You will get a lot more than just a fixed engine from spending some time with Melvin and Arlene.
