“Rom and his Dad are the best. Metro W&L is my go-to spot as I’m very close and they have great selections of pretty much everything—that said, even if I were far and they had less, it’d still be worth the drive. Rom knows his stuff—knowledgeable about literally any of the dozens of bottles and types I ask him on. Never upsells or pressured; just gives info I’d otherwise spend hours googling- and I can trust he’ll tell you the less pricey of two is better if that’s the truth without hesitation. This is where I got “seasoned” as I was educated each visit re: smoky scotches, really good Mezcals, differences between aged whiskeys, tons of red wine recommendations based on my taste and preference (sometimes I just give one adjective e.g. dry) I get my jalapeño tequila here, great price and as I’m probably the only one regularly coming for it- his really sweet adorable funny tall dad puts it down from the top shelf to the bottom shelf for my shorty self to reach! So they really give a damn, in other words, and this is a quality business. Not to mention, Rom will order anything they may not have in if you request it (I also understand they deliver)…!”
“Nice local general store. New owners. Clean place. They do not take EBT food stamps only cash and cards. They also have a separate counter where they make hot and cold sandwiches and other things like tuna salad,.egg salad etc. There hours change from season to season and are open until about 10 at night. For local convenience you will pay a few cents more per item. Also has an ATM machine. Thanks”
“Carries an eclectic/almost curated for the space selection of vino, spirits & all. Mr. Vino’s is a solid open-til-10pm spot, with great selections and awesome crew. Location/hours weighs in totally appropriately, as compared to my home store on Metropolitan Ave only 1mile down. Pricing isn’t noticeably steep as compared to local spots without the foot traffic/monthly rent. Come on people: let’s keep in mind, they’re 50 steps from 71st subway entrance.Plus, their team is consistently lovely and honestly, helpful. I hate staring at the artwork to arbitrarily ‘judge [bottles] by their cover’!Juan is super pleasant & knowledgeable for recommendations when you can’t stare at label graphics or pray for a description to read with a key to translate any abstract wine poetry on the back of the bottle for a moment longer…. As is the beautiful Milena who is so kind and helps point you to what you need based on what you like/in mood to try, no upselling. Great place. Also the funny guy with green eyes, I forget his name… sorry pretty-eyesP.S. I absolutely LOVE the Carmenere, Milena! Thank you!!”
“This is not the fanciest liquor store, but you can find decent wines. The selection is not huge but provides pretty good bottles that good values. When I pay for the bottles, I know I don't overpay. There are places where employees are super friendly but later I found I paid too much for what I got. This place is not one of them. Yes the owner lady may not be super friendly, but I have been fairly content with the bottles that I got.”
“Great local liquor store, wide selection, and very organized. Need a wine bottle or some liquor for a gift idea, they have a variety of gift boxes or the gift bags to hold bottles for a special occasion. Very happy with their wide variety despite being a smaller local liquor shop.”
