Went to the M&T Bank over in East Syracuse. I needed to have my letter notarized. They told me that I would have to make an appointment with the person that does that. This was about 11:00 or 12:00 in the morning and the appointment that they were going to give me would be at 2:00 in the afternoon. I said that I lived a distance from this Bank and stop there because I had an appointment in that area at that time. I asked if there was another M&T Bank close by that I could go to. They told me there was one in Fayetteville. My son took me over to the Fayetteville branch and I asked if I had to have an appointment to have the notary sign the letter that I needed signed and they told me, "No you don't need an appointment." I had it signed right away by "Erica I Bye" Assistant Vice President, Senior Relationship Banker. I was very impressed with this Bank. It's a little bit closer to where I live so I will probably be going here or the Canastota M&T branch.

Every experience has been positive here! Despite the Internet having technical difficulties, the staff made sure my husband and I were able to complete the process of creating a joint account as efficiently as possible. They were helpful, kind and had a positive attitude. The team here will make sure you do what you need to do in timely and effective fashion!

I don’t think I’ll be having my account Open here for long. I went in to get advise about a check that was issued to me by an insurance company and I ended up being interrogated like I did something wrong! I was asked why I didn’t have direct deposits, Coming in! Which was not the reason I went in for. isn’t that supposed to be a personal preference anyway? I told him I received checks from work. I was even told I was inconsistent with my statement because I said I worked for upstate medical through a third party company. At some point I was so uncomfortable I left in tears. I don’t think I’ll be walking in there again! I felt demeaned and embarrassed!

The branch is THE worst. I had to go in there twice after my mother passed. Once to open the safe deposit box and again to try to create an estate account.

So far so good, I've noticed a lot of bad reviews and I must say I can't relate to them. My experience here, with tellers and other staff, always good. I've only been a customer here for a short time but they are great

Tellers are unfriendly and impersonal despite having my personal and business banking with them for the past 3 years. Today, I called to order checks and was placed on hold for 20 minutes until after they closed. I will be taking my business elsewhere. This is branch specific as I have not had this experience in other local branches.

We had a mortgage with M&T and the property was located in the Syracuse area. The mortgage was not originally with M&T, but M&T bought the bank so we went along for the ride. M&T turned out to be a nightmare. Payments were not attributed to the loan on the day they were made and sometimes they were "lost" even when automatic payments had been done from an M&T account. They reported us late to the credit bureaus and it took two years to get that straightened out. After six months of this we refinanced with Geddes Bank and have no problems. After M&T removed the late payment from the credit bureau, all was fine for about two years then suddenly it appeared again. Now, years later I am again fighting with them about that one late payment. And, it was my experience that the people in the office in Fayetteville were mean, nasty, and not helpful at all. The further up you went, the worse it got. This bank can do serious damage, so please avoid at all costs.

I opened an account at the Fayetteville branch in 2009 because they were walking distance from my house and had ATMs in the area. There were a few warm people at this branch (like the woman who helped me open my acct), but when I would go in every couple weeks to deposit checks, etc., I was often treated with suspicion by the bank tellers. For example, my wife and I had just married and I was the only holder of an M & T account. We were getting gifts (checks) from family made out to both of us, and, the both of us standing there in the bank attempting to deposit the checks into my account, we got this weird attitude suggesting that we weren't actually married and there was something suspicious about our transaction, further pressuring us to open a joint account (requiring a marriage license; which at the time was another of many big middle-fingers to same-sex couples). I mentioned to the teller that we had just filed our taxes jointly and that the refund had come direct deposit into my account, to which she tried to argue that this wasn't possible (i.e., that it didn't happen) without a joint account (hello, you're a teller, look in my goddamn account record if you don't believe me!). A joint account might have been a good idea, but we were moving away in a couple months and it just wasn't worth staying with this bank after their ridiculous treatment. This wasn't the first or last weird experience at this branch. Why would a branch treat their account holders so rudely? Maybe I didn't fit the mould of a rich surburbanite? (so common in the area) I don't know, but I'm glad I moved far away and never to have to see these snarky turds again.
