This used to be the only salon that I would go to, but now I think it’s time to find a new one. My visit started off with the owner running late being about 30 minutes behind. I was fine with that, stuff happens. She asked what I wanted to do and I told her I wanted just a healthy trim. We agreed that would take about 2 inches off for it to look nice and I was okay with that. However I did NOT give her permission to cut about 5-6 inches of my hair off, she decided to do that all on her own. I feel violated by what she did. I did NOT want majority of my length cut off. When all was said and done my almost waist length hair was resting a little below my shoulder. I was in such shock I just paid and left to get out of the salon. I tried so hard to be okay with it and told myself it will grow back, but I feel so ugly. I’ve been growing my hair for the last 6 years. I’m disappointed to say I don’t think I’ll return. I was already nervous to let people cut my hair and now I don’t trust anyone to touch it. A little more than a month later I still feel ugly when I look in the mirror. I wear my hair up a lot now when I usually used to wear it down. In the end she didn’t listen and she just did what she wanted with my hair instead of what I asked for which was a trim, not a massive hair cut. If I could go back and cancel my appointment I would in a heartbeat.

The nicest people work here. Today I had a pedicure with a very talented kind woman. I only remember Julie’s name who has done a wonderful job on my hair in the past. It was so refreshing to see people treated with such compassion.

Thank you Elaine!! After a horrible, traumatic, botched color job, Special Effects saved the day... and not only that but did it in record time as this was last minute! This salon has been a staple in the community as long as I've been alive. The women are kind, honest, and EXPERIENCED. As always the place was clean and well kept. Was a pleasure coming in.

Special effects is wonderful and I highly recommend it. Recently, I worked with Elaine and she was amazing in turning my long drab grey/dark brown hair into beautiful lustrous blond. I've gotten compliment after compliment! In addition, the salon is squeaky clean and it appropriately safeguarded for COVID 19 and that is very important to me. The staff and owner are professional, courteous and efficient. I give it the highest rating

I had a pedicure there and found Margo to be excellent. However there were not enough COVID precautions, for example, they said they would take temp upon entry, did not; owner wore clear face shield without mask ( CDC says insufficient protection for others), and she spoke loudly out loud about taking enough precautions, saying if some people were unhappy with her precautions, they " should not come to her shop, just stay home and wrap themselves in Saran Wrap", etc. This did not make for a comfortable experience although I would highly recommend the technician who did my pedicure.
