I fell in love with Dillon and found him at petsmart. When I first found him I immediately called and didn’t get an answer so I left a voicemail, after a few days past by I called again and once again did not get an answer. I showed up to petsmart with my family members to introduce Dillon to them (we couldn’t play with him because we had to have a second chance volunteer there but no volunteers were ever there) and an employee said that they set an appointment for us the next morning to meet Dillon and play with him. I came the next morning to find out that no one from second chance showed up, so a petsmart employee told me to call which I did and received no answer. Not until I called 5 times did I finally receive and answer after many many days. I was greeted by a rude employee on the phone and was told I had to have the home owner call to make an appointment instead. He called right away and got an appointment set up for later that day and said his wife would come because he was working. When my mom and I got there the woman was very rude and did not let us in because she claimed my dad “did not follow instructions” by not telling her we would be coming to meet Dillon and not him, but he did. She then called her boss (who took 20 minutes to pick up) and when she answered started the call by saying “these people that can’t follow instructions” but finally got the ok to let us play with Dillon so we did. We told her we wanted a day to thing about it because we had just met him for the first time and have never had a cat so we wanted to be sure. When we called back and told them my dad wanted to meet him, the woman refused to drive the 40 minutes to let us meet and adopt him. Do not place your cats for adoptions at locations you will not drive to!!!! Sadly I was not able to adopt Dillon and he will continue to cycle through different pet stores. These people are horribly rude and do not care about their animals. DO NOT ADOPT FROM THEM!!!!!!

Long post. Sorry. Not sorry.I don’t post much or speak negatively ever but I feel compelled to share my recent experiences with Molly at Buckminster's Cat Café and Helen at Second Chance Sheltering Network.On Saturday 1/15, my son and I visited Buckminster's. We fell in love and adopted 2 kitties - 2 1/2 yo Romeo and 6 mo. orange kitten (she currently has no name…lol!). The process was easy. Called Second Chance and spoke to Helen that same day. I was told they were up to date on testing, on shots, treated for fleas, spayed, microchipped, etc. Romeo is also FIV positive which I knew already.Went back to Buckminster's that Sunday. Paid the adoption fee for my 2 sweet kitties, went over the paperwork and on our way home we went.The kitties had their first visit with my vet (who I’ve gone to for 8 years) on that Friday, 6 days after picking them up. I found out that Romeo is not up to date on his shots needing a booster for distemper which was not done, full of fleas and has nasal congestion (common with FIV) so an antibiotic was needed.Needless to say, 6 days after paying $250 for these sweet kitties, I was upset this was the condition they allowed me to adopt him in.I text Molly immediately. She was nice and apologetic for not noticing the fleas.Then I contacted Second Chance and got Helen. Possibly one of the most insensitive cat rescue workers I’ve ever met. When I told Helen what my vet found and that I was disappointed in the condition I was given Romeo, she immediately debated me telling me that - Romeo was treated for fleas so there no way basically accusing me of lying. That they only do one dose of distemper. (I’m confused how that’s up to date when a booster is needed post 4 weeks). And that nasal congestion is common and that I knew he was FIV positive.My questions and statements were valid and after going around and around with her, Helen’s only answer was that “If I wanted to return him, I could get my money back”! Are you kidding me? As if he’s an item of clothing or material. Helen also had the nerve to say she was offended I was calling saying these things. Click…buh bye Helen.The following day I text Molly at Buckminster’s pictures of the fleas. She was apologetic and did not think my vet made this up. She seemed caring.No way Helen, you’re not getting Romeo back. You don’t deserve him! I’m happy to give him the life he deserves and not live at your shelter any longer. (BTW it appears he’s been there almost a year!)I support adopting 100% but think twice about Second Chance. They lie, and tell you just return them if something is wrong.

I adopted Mr. Teddy Bear 4 years ago from Second Chance. He was on the streets, full of matts and just surviving. I have been an animal lover for over 40 years. My two sister tabbies lived till 23 years of age before they passed away. Second chance is one the most caring, supportive and loving organizations that I have come in contact with in many years. They have a sound process to make sure all adoptions are going to GOOD homes. Keep up the great work and God bless those who are so dedicated.

Animal rescue is a heart-wrenching, difficult endeavor for any individual or group. Individuals that feel disappointed about a rescue group's efforts or that if they believe they can do one iota better than a rescue, FOR GOD'S SAKE DO IT.

Caring and reputable organization that sets the standards high for placements of their rescues. I have adopted through this shelter and I have also volunteered with them. All of the fostering and rehabilitation that goes into giving their rescues a second chance is done with love, with the best for the animal in mind.

I got my sweet little girl from Second Chance three years ago. They rescued her from a field near a warehouse in the city when she was very pregnant, and she had her litter of kittens in foster care- they truly went above and beyond for her. She is the light of my life. The volunteers were so sweet and followed up with me via email after her adoption, asking how the transition to a home life was going and offered advice and tips on how to introduce her to my other cat. Very thankful for all they do.

Finally found a cat that was love at first site and was the right breed I was looking for (Russian Blie - hypoallergenic) first it took 5phone calls, 2 messages, a facebook comment, a petfinder email, and a facebook messenger comment for me to get a reply. Turns out they won't adopt anywhere outside the Buffalo area. I live in Rochester, an hour and 15 min drive, and was told I live “much too far away†to be able to do a home visit. I was so xcited to be able to give Jeff a loving home and because they are too lazy to drive an hour and a half, poor Jeff is stuck waiting inside a Petsmart for someone to come love him.

My co-worker wrote a review on Second Chance last week. I'm here to support that review, but also just to add a bit to it. It took me a week to write this because last week was too emotional for me. Let's just say that, although there is disagreement from Second Chance, there is no real debate in this matter. I have worked in human services for 30+ years and I know compassion when I see it. I did not see it here. I was being judged for not getting Garfield or the other cats help before last monday. I was told it was inhumane to leave Garfield outside in the state he was in. I was told that I would be contacted about the decision from the vet. I was told I have to trap the other cats. I was told the vet's bill could run up to $1000 if we wanted him back to us. I was told that should Garfield test positive for feline leukemia, that he could not go back into the community but I was not told that it would mean he would be put down just for that reason. Now I'm being told that they claim they contacted me to let me know about Garfield. Categorically, they never called me back. It was my co-worker that informed me of what happened to Garfield. Yes, Garfield was positive for feline leukemia. Yes, he had a hurt paw. Yes, my coworker left 3 messages, telling them she would pick up Garfield. Garfield and I grew close over the 2 years that I've been here. No one else was able to gain his trust but through our relationship, he soon went to others for affection. Garfield was 10 years old and lived a long life for a feral cat. I do not regret getting him the help he needed, just who I went with to give him that help. My advice to everyone is you should do much research, not only on programs, but also on what cats (feral, strays, etc) face in the community or elsewhere. Garfield has been buried where he was loved and will watch over his community.

If I could give a ZERO rating I would. The ladies that "assisted" my co workers with a cat today should be ABSOLUTELY ASHAMED of themselves. I completely understand abiding policies trust me, I have to abide my own company's, however you told my co worker (that works in separate building) that someone would need to pick the cat up if interested to help him and vet him due to his injury and being feline +. When I called for the 4th time today, I was able to speak to someone. I was told that they put the cat to sleep 20 minutes ago and that they 1.) heard all my voice mails about me wanting to pick up the cat and help and 2.) that you called my other co worker and informed her that the cat passed away, which they DID NOT!!!!! When I asked why they did not return my voice mail the lady on the phone stated it was basically my co worker's job to inform me to pick up the cat or else he would be put to sleep....UHM ...THAT'S WHY I CALLED AND LEFT VOICE MAILS!!! This poor cat never even had a chance! RIP Garfield :(
