Wonderful staff, very knowledgeable. I treat my cat like a baby and I absolutely trust them with him, they saved his life and continue to take excellent care when we go.
After 6 years it's time for an update, I love Dr. Balbour, she is amazing, but the office leaves a little to be desired. They still make you wait outside like it's 2020 and don't examine the animal in front of you. You get to the office on time but they make you wait outside for 26 minutes (literally) only to come inside and wait for twenty minutes more, only for them to come and take your pet away from you. I dunno, I'm quickly becoming not a fan. I swear I've seen people arrive after me and go inside before me. Maybe I'm expecting too much, or maybe I should just arrive 20 minutes later in the future

Island Veterinary Hospital
At first entrance with my cat about 12 years ago, Dr. Balbour flat out told me she had cancer and was going to die in 3 months. I panicked and asked if she could get an x-ray. Turns out she did NOT have cancer at all. 12 years later…
Fast-forward to a month ago when my Pebbles was running out of insulin… I tried to set up an appointment so I could get more. This Vet made it extremely difficult. I am handicap and always have someone bring my cats to the vet. That person works and has always dropped her off. Then Dr. Balbour decided that she wasn’t allowing any more drop-offs. I had a difficult time trying to figure out what to do.
So she asks me about where I’m getting the prescription for the insulin needles. I told her I have the needles delivered every month from Amazon. She called me a liar and said you can’t get the needles without a prescription. See the Amazon picture below.
She decided she didn’t want to help me anymore and flat out dumped me from her practice without providing the insulin prescription my diabetic cat at this point desperately needed—or giving a damn what would happen to her without it.
Long story short I wasn’t able to get an appointment with another vet until the day that Pebbles actually died. I then was looking for her all day to bring her, but she was hidden. Unbeknownst to me she was dying and didn’t make it to the other vet. That night she massively convulsed, went into major tachycardia and was in so much pain. Seeing her like this was so saddening. Then she died. See picture below.
Why this matters so so much: my husband died last year and my three cats were my everything keeping me company until all three of them died in the last couple of months. No thanks to Dr. Balbour. I would not recommend anyone going to this vet EVER!!! Not if you give a damn about your pets!!!

Dr Balbour is the most caring and knowledgeable veterinarian you can ask for. Does her own surgeries. Amazing follow up on how your pet is doing. If you have any doubt with your current vet go to Dr Balbour. Island Veterinary Hospital located in Coram NY.

Dr balbour is fantastic. She has been the caretaker of our all of our dogs and cats. We have been going for at least 4-5 years now. Her bedside manner is amazing and really makes you feel like family there. I’ve euthanized a few pets with her and I can honestly say that although it’s one of the hardest things to do - she made me feel so at peace and ease with it during the entire process. AMAZING PLACE. And affordable as well.

Would love to give more stars!! Dr Balbour is thorough, competent, caring and loving. Her staff is wonderful. She is lucky to have them as they are to have her. I have been taking my dogs there for 14 years, and there has never been a timr that she has rushed me out, always answers my questions and always returns my calls. Anyone who complains about a long wait time, just think your pets visit may be the reason some else has to wait, you cant rush perfection! Shebis kind, professional and the best vet I have been to. Thank you Dr Balbour and Staff for the best care my dogs have ever received.

I love Dr. Balbour! She's able to diagnose and treat better than any vet. Her love for animals is evident by the way she handles them.
Edit: I have always cherished my visits to this veterinary clinic, however, I have noticed a shift towards a more business-like atmosphere. The once friendly ambiance seems to have diminished, and I find myself liking only the original staff members. I am uncertain of the reason behind these changes, but I now must be buzzed in upon arrival.
Due to my dog's heightened anxiety, I now double leash him out of fear that he may escape. The wait time has significantly increased from the mere 10 minutes it used to be when I first became a client years ago. Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, my dog is taken into a separate room for examination, and I have noticed additional charges on my bill for services that were previously included.
I hope to see a return to the warm and welcoming environment that initially drew me to this clinic. I value the care and attention provided to my furry companion and hope that the clinic can address these concerns to ensure a positive experience for both myself and my pet.

Dr. Balbour and her team at Island Veterinary have always made me feel at ease whenever I bring my reactive dog in for services. The receptionists always accommodate me by making sure there's an empty waiting room upon arrival, no matter how busy they are. Dr. Balbour has a true love for her patients (as any vet should) and she undoubtedly goes above and beyond. Her assistants are always kind and helpful. There has never been a moment where I questioned her knowledge or the services I've received at this animal hospital. Look no further!

They’re really fantastic. They take great care of my dog and I always trust them. Except for how they can’t hold an appointment. Expect to wait for over an hour past the time you have to show up. My dog gets scared at the vet, so she has to sit there terrified. And don’t try to make any afternoon plans.

I have been to other vets but I think this is the best they really care and not as much money as the last place I went to
