“I had a wonderful experience meeting Paula (the owner). The store is filled with lots of really neat finds. She is so passionate about her store it was a good feeling and so welcoming. And yes, I walked away with some really fun "stuff". Give it a try. She's awesome.”

“We love alley so much!!! She overheard a conversation about my halloween costume and helped me find the perfect skirt. I was losing hope and she went to the back and found exactly what I was looking for. The ladies at the front were also very friendly and attentive. Thank you katie, lauren, alley, and tessa!!”

“Downtown Designs is one of the finest shops on Schenectady's Jay Street. Richard has excellent taste and curates a collection of classic vintage clothes, accessories and jewelry. You can find a variety of vintage styles whether you prefer the psychedelic look, mod fashions or Hollywood glamour. There is truly something for everyone here. Everything is nearly organized and displayed, and the shop is pleasant to peruse. The prices are very reasonable, especially because the clothes are in such mint condition. Richard is very knowledgeable and reasonable regarding vintage clothing, and always a pleasure to speak with. I would highly recommend Downtown Designs to anyone interested in vintage clothing or accessories, and anyone looking to learn more about vintage and see some beautiful garments.”

“This is a cute shop with two rooms and lots of items. Your best bet if you want to visit is to CALL CHRISTINE FIRST before you even get in your car or start heading there to make sure she's in. I called around 1:30pm and got no answer. She called back to inform me when she would be in. She owns the building and operates the store herself. She's very honest about if an item is fake/faux or real. The sizing isn't fantastic but lots of vintage clothing wasn't size inclusive anyway. Some items are overpriced but you can still find a few reasonably priced gems as well. Lots of men's, women's, some lingerie, sleep wear, purses, jewelry, hats, etc. A good variety, It's worth the visit.”

“Some extremely unique things in here, and though some of the space is a little congested and tough to walk through (as is often the case with places like this) you could spend a hell of a lot of time here.I didn’t really inquire too much on prices and I don’t know what the haggling situation is, but still more than worth coming in here to check out.”

“Went to this Plato’s closet to sell some of my older clothes and also decided to shop there. I ended up getting a super cute long sleeve shirt and a necklace for a great price!! The employees are very helpful and the selling process is also very organized and easy to do. This is especially a great place to go as a college student like me who doesn’t have a lot to spend, there’s a wide variety of clothing including some nice name brand finds! Highly recommend to anyone looking to shop on a budget or sell their clothing.”
