The people who run the shop are incredibly nice!!! Never pushy, always gracious. We’ve purchased some great things there over the summer. Here is the incredible after-story that happened today: The sterling silver lobster clasp on my paperclip chain broke. We called to ask if they could do repairs and replace a clasp, but never even discussed buying it there. I did buy it there, but never mentioned it, bc clasps break and nothing lasts forever. After the lovely shop owner or manager immediately changed it to a new lobster clasp, I asked how much it would be. She replied, “No Charge at all. You are our customer and we take care of our customers”. She must have remembered us-since we never uttered a word about purchasing the chain there!!! There really is small town charm left in this world.Bravo! Kudos! ??????????I would recommend buying a gift for yourself or anyone you love from R.H Van Alstyne Fine Jewelry.

Love this store! The jewelry they carry is amazing. They do custom jewelry as well as the jewelry they carry from various makers. The staff is friendly and very familiar with the product. If you have questions, they can usually help you with their answer. The owner of the store is usually there and will help you with whatever you may be interested in.

I wanted something in sapphire for our 45th anniversary. I called over and they said they had offerings with that stone, and I was thrilled when I came by to see they were well-stocked. I ended up with a necklace featuring a very nice sapphire in a cool setting, just over 4 digits in price. When I found out my wife couldn't wear the piece due to some medical procedure, we went back together and they could not have been more gracious. Before refunding they asked us if we'd like to have something made, which we decided to do. They came back with a quote for a tennis-style bracelet that my wife loves, and voila, it's a happy ending. Wonderful people, good selection, broad spectrum of prices. I've shopped at Tiffany's in multiple cities, and I am always happy to work with small family jewellers when I can -- Van Alstyne is a great example of why.

Rita and her amazing staff have always provided the most friendly service to me. Most recently, my son got to experience this when he went to the shop with my Moms engagement ring to have made into a more spiffy one for his lovley girlfriend. The expert professional care was hands down TOP-NOTCH!

This was THE WORST bridal experience ever. I have a one of a kind family heirloom diamond ring with a very detailed setting that's been in tact for 50 plus years. I got it resized here and they sent it home with an entire diamond missing out of the setting without noticing. Then blamed it on us for traveling with it back less than 30 seconds to our house. They did “fix†the diamond and replace it and guess what?! That same diamond fell out AGAIN and they “stand by their work†and say they will look at it and have HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Great little jewelry store for gifts and special occasions. It's organized by brand/artist, which is helpful if you know what style you're looking for. The women who work here are all very friendly and more than willing to step in and help you make a decision if you're staring in the mirror trying to decide which earrings suit you better. That said, being saleswomen, their opinion will usually be to support you in whichever one you like more, even if neither feels quite right. They only have a small selection from each brand's catalog on hand at a given time, and usually only one of each, but will provide you with the catalogs so you can peruse them and pick out whichever you'd like to see and try on. It takes a week or two to get them in; they wrote down your name and number to give you a call when they arrive. This is a nice option for unique and elegant jewelry if you're looking for an anniversary gift, graduation present, etc. My mom loves the line of handcrafted silver pieces-- she has at least three sets of earrings and a necklace herself, and has given them as gifts to a couple relatives, all of whom were very happy. These are the kind of pieces people stop you on the street in Manhattan to ask you about... They're always disappointed to hear they're from a little store upstate!
