Broadband performance, reliability, and customer service have all been drastically improved ever since FairPoint was taken over by Consolidated.

Absolute worst website experience I've ever had. It is nearly impossible to pay your bill online. Do not recommend if you have a choice where you live.

**** ORIGINAL: "Slow 2mb download speed is best I can potentially get. Got a bunch of mailers that said faster speeds were available, but just not where I live. Thanks. Drops all the time. Phone is static/noise. Can't download files without constant restart. Used my phone as a hotspot and downloaded updates (2gb) for my computer in 2 minutes, something that would have been a day of start/stop/restart on my DSL service. Starting to wonder if paying for more phone data is the way to go and drop Unfairpoint all together." **2 StarsSO CHANGE OF EVENTS as of 9/25/16- Fairpoint came out to fix my "No dial tone" work order and I was informed I had no dial tone due to them installing new high speed internet boxes in the area and forgot to hook my service up. Now I am at 15mb download and 1mb upload consistently. Past Fairpoint service was horrible and customer service on the phone got you nowhere fast, 1 star service for sure. Now my internet speed is a 5 Star for my country life. The repair guy who serviced me was great and informative. *** 3 Stars overall. ***** 5 Stars for technician who serviced me.LAST UPDATE: 01/25/22Ultra fast internet has been available on my remote dirt road for some time now. I am very pleased with this. I purchased 1GB download service. Testing with direct hook up to supplied modem, I see 750MB download speeds and 500MB upload speeds consistently. I have not hit 1GB yet. Overall internet service has been fairly stable and consistent. ****4 Star

When we had some sort of power outage, we kept calling and trying to sort out how long and what measures could be taken and it didn’t even work, our phone line just stopped work. When I asked for the phone line to be transferred to a working number, they said they would do it but they didn’t. Always said “ah yes, I’ll do it” but they never did. Since it’s Thursday, we lost a bunch of calls since it’s almost the weekend and normally it was going to be busy but since that happened, we had no calls and I’m not even sure for how much we’ll lose tomorrow(Friday).

Pay for 1 gig service at best get 150mbps, hot spot on your cell phone is better. Always a run around unless it comes to them getting there payment. Should partition to the BBB

NO INTERNET or PHONE 5 days. Consolidated is a horrible company. We pay $70/month for DSL and it's TOTALLY UNRELIABLE. It goes offline several times a day. Constantly needing to reboot router. It takes weeks for someone to show up for repairs! We were repeatedly told that Fiber Optic not available to us, but they had the info wrong in their system. And after they ran out of state money, they want to charge $4/foot for installation, way too expensive for us, so we're stuck with unworkable internet. Can't live or work here in Austerlitz.

They provide the bare minimum at exorbitant prices. Their internet service regularly goes down with no explanation and they absolutely do not care about the customer experience.

Everything you read here is true. We are now spending $140.00 a month and it's still going out, stalling etc. We will be looking into Spectrum asap. The calls to customer service, the info they give you when they come out and say everything is okay.......talk about a scam.

This is a monopoly in this area, so there doesn't seem to be any incentive to have decent service--it's very slow, goes out constantly. AND WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what they offer--it's almost like the old days with dial-up service. Constantly frustrating!

The most unbelievable terrible WIFI provider (if you can even call them that) you can imagine... They get away with robbery by charging nearly $80 a month, thanks to a monopoly in the area. I work from home and haven't been able to make a call from my home in 1.5 years, thanks to an absolutely terrible connection. The Wifi cuts out all the time, download speeds are a joke, and browsing is miserable. If you can (in any way at all) avoid doing service with them, do yourself a favor and stay far, far away.

Responded to a mailer, was tricked into a contract for $109. a month, got the first bill, never saw so many different charges, $331.00. Called my salesman and he said he would look into it and never called back. Plus nothing worked properly for the first 2 weeks, called the tech guy and was told it was my equipment and just a coincidence. All smoke and mirrors, most working there are inexperienced at best. Got away after only 3 months, now have to deal with the contract issue, Lawyers are expensive, ALL BAD stay as far away as possible!!!

ADDED EDIT - Moved to VT with same ISP. Its 10Mbs instead of 15Mbs speed. YET i have no problems with my speeds, I can steam on every device and my ping is amazing! THIS INTERNET SHOULD BE WAY WORSE! But its not... BBB? Any open investigations?? I would like to receive back pay for the 2 years of NOT GETTING THE INTERNET I PAID FOR at all. I was getting 5mbs most days and small spikes up to 9mbs NEVER EVER 15 NOT EVEN OVER 10! Speed tested EVERY DAY! Customer service knows jack all. One day the generator went out at the local office and a rep had told me. Next morning I was LIED to OR the person had no one of doing or knowing her job properly to address any issues. When I asked if it was almost fixed as my wife works from home I was told there is no issue. Confirmed that was the issue and it was fixed a few hours later. THE ONLY GOOD THING IS THE SERVICE TECHS! They are the faces that deal with these issues best they can directly. Bottom line it is all up to the ISP and physical infrastructure. Service techs cant fix that. How are they getting away with this?!?!?!? Its disgusting, aggravating, and should be illegal if it isnt already.Original content:Can I give no stars... where do I start OH YEAH lets start with BELL!! After they took over for the local company they didn't want to spend money renting lines on the power company owned polls. So the cheap fix was to burry the lines! Oh and put the junction boxes on the ground! SMART!.... not even a little. So if it isnt the mice chewing and crossing every ones wires, its the lightening creating electrical interference in the outdated ( and most likely ) not properly insulated wires. EVERY hint of lightening drops my connection, every phone call drops my connection. I cant even stream a movie when its raining! This is utterly ridiculous. I propose ALL customers of this service come together and demand a refund! Further more I believe they should provide us with FREE internet and phone service until they UPDATE EXISTING LINES or a competitor completes installment. In some areas we don't have any other choice of provider forcing us to pay this high premium prices for this disgusting service.

Poor customer service. There are always problems to turn on the service every year. When you call the customer service, they will tell you to call technical support or the repair department, and both department will tell you to wait for the technician to call you. However, we have never receive phone calls, I always have to call back and track down to the last resource to solve my internet problems. I would love to cancel their service if there are other company available.

We switched to Spectrum and took out 392 number with us. Consolidated will not throw the switch that allows our friends and neighbors with Consolidated land lines to call our home phone. Tried many times, but nothing was done about it. Bad service and overpriced to boot.

Slow speeds, terrible service, high prices, consolidated communications continues the fairpoint legacy. Thank friggin god for spectrum, just switched and now pay the same price for cable and internet that I used to pay for just internet from c.c., and I get 100mbps that clocks in at 110, instead of 20mbps that clocked in around 15. Just downloaded a 5gb file in less than 10 minutes, it used to take over 4 hours to download that size file. GET SPECTRUM
