Go somewhere else to adopt your future pet, staff is rude and nasty. Shame as I had adopted from them for many, many years and many times, starting back in 1980 when I was just a teenager.
I adopted a cat from Putnam Humane Society in 2015 he was morbidly obese and had been at the shelter for over a year. The cat had megacolon which they had no clue about and repeated bouts of pancreatitis. The cat behavior issues, he savagely attacked my little dogs, my dogs ended up having to go to vet for treatment.
Did I return the cat, no I worked with my vet to help the cat. I had this cat for six years, I had to divide my house to keep my dogs safe and the cat happy, the sicker the cat got the worse the behavior was. The cat was on pain meds, meds for to help his behavior, meds and a special diet to help treat his megacolon.
It was a lot of work, I loved this cat, until the night the cat tried to kill my little 6 pound dog.
I had the cat humanely euthanized because there was nothing that could ease his distress,
And after the cat passed I just wanted to adopt another cat, I was basically treated like a monster because I had the cat humanely euthanized for "behavior " issues. Unfortunately a few months earlier my other dog died from an incredibly rare cancer. Got grilled for what happened to her.
I spent nearly $8,000 treating the cat and I'm the monster.
Go elsewhere if you want a pet, there is something very wrong at this "shelter"

Was interested in adopting a dog from here, asked them if i could take the dog on a walk and see if he would be a good fit for me. You have to take a training course to walk a dog!!!! LOL. On top of all that i submitted several applications to them and they never got back to me when they say they would. By the way there was nothing wrong with my application that would not make me qualified to adopt a dog/cat from them. What a shame.

We have adopted 3 rescued dogs from them over the years. They do a great job with the animals they rescue.

These are the most wonderful people who work at the Putnam Humane Society. They are so kind and truly Help the animals.

Animal rescues are amazing. THIS one is no exception. The work they do and the pups they save are wonderful! Always clean, and always taking great care of all the animals in their care!

Very loving and caring facility. They care for each of their dogs as if each, and everyone belongs to them as their very own pet. There’s so much love there. Always spotless.

Negligent. They need to take a large look at how they do things and fix it. More staff, more fostering for a start. These animals are not getting the attention or care they deserve. We adopted an 8-9 month old kitty from them. They did not deworm him. They did not check his stool. They basically did not do any sort of health check.Just shots and neutering. This poor cat had a tapeworm infestation and they never treated him, I had to treat him literally 3 days after adopting. This cat had not pooped in days. Probably why they never stool checked him, but segments of worms were everywhere there’s no way they wouldn’t have known. 3 vet visits in the first week. Crazy. The vet was even annoyed with phs over this because they should be deworming every animal when they get them in. This cat has been more like a feral I found than an adoptee from an organization. They have FIV positive cats in the same room as healthy animals, this is ok in a home under proper conditions, but not a shelter. It is concerning if these animals are being properly cared for. They absolutely need a foster program so these animals can have what they deserve.

I was greeted by a woman whom looked like she was on drugs and her aggressive attitude had me turn right back around and she proceeded to follow me to the gate making myself and my family feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe.
