They doubled my insurance this year so they could give it away for free to illegals. Will be changing insurance companies soon.

Talk about corporate greed - IH is the best example. The worst insurance company I have come across. Everything gets tossed into the deductible despite bi-weekly deductions from my paycheck. I am contributing towards my own misery. Highly unrecommended.

The "Red Shirt Treatment" is not all that great. I have never had to beg to pay someone money before. Very disappointing customer service. Need to get with the times regarding remote employees wanting local insurance.

I cannot wait to cancel this insurance in December. I used to love having Independent Health. I'm not sure what happened, but they are a nightmare to deal with. I called before I switched from Highmark last year to confirm they would cover my script. I was told "if your doctor writes the script, we cover it". That was a lie. It's bait and switch, pure and simple. It only gets worse from there.

Was told prior to adding our son that his highly specialized med would be covered. So we put him on our plan…. They are denying coverage - their “consultant”, who does not specialize in the disease our son has recommended upholding the denial. But they have approved the in home nurse to administer the meds that they just denied ?♀️. For three years my son has been on this highly specialized med. And save the response, I have spoken to your customer service- they can’t help other than to say “it’s ok you can continue to appeal” - so in my “spare time” of working full time and caring for multiple children with special needs I need to continue to waste my time to fight against ignorant people. Sounds like true “red shirt” treatment. So for months while I fight my son won’t receive the infusions his body relies on, and as his mother I get to watch him waste away all because the fortune I pay monthly for coverage - that I was told would cover his meds- just isn’t enough. I have had nothing but problems with unqualified “experts” at independent health making ridiculous determinations about our health.

Independent Health is an embarrassment to WNY. It nauseates me to give a star to this dumpster fire of a company, but zero stars is not an option. Yet Independent Health is all about zeroes: ZERO customer service, ZERO concern for their customers, ZERO common sense… but lots of zeroes in their CEO’s paycheck. And of course ever-increasing, disgustingly high premiums for their customers. Independent Health’s “red shirt treatment”? That must be what the Devil provides in Hell.

I wish I can give zero stars. The coverage stinks. I went to get my prescription for my medication and I was told that I need prior authorization. I suffer from Ulcerative Colitis and need my medication. This is ridiculous that I need prior authorization for every single refill when I've been getting them every month for over the past 7 years with no problems. I'm very angry that I have to take time from my very busy work schedule to straighten this out. I don't have time to go through this every stinking time. People who need medication for chronic conditions deserve better than this. QUIT DENYING MEDICATIONS FOR PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC CONDITIONS. I'm extremely angry about this. If I get sick because of this. I will be getting a lawyer.

My family and I have been members for many years. I haven't had an issue until 06/26/2023. I received a voicemail from an employee to call back to renew my health insurance before July. I was already approved two weeks ago with the help from another employee. So I called back to be informed by another employee that I need to contact the NY Healthcare Marketplace instead even though I was instructed to return the call to THEIR number. Thanks for the run around. The problem was simple, I have two active accounts. Everyday since I have received calls from their employees asking for my children to call them back to finish the first application. Unfortunately the application will close in 5-7 days. But in the meantime this is crazy to keep being contacted by email, phone, and mail. Even crazier that an employee said she would make a note NOT to contact, just to be called the very NEXT day @ 9 AM!

If I could give this company a zero I would do so. They decided to cut my monthly prescribed medication into 4 weekly parts so that I am forced to go to the pharmacy and pay an additional copay each week for 1/4th of a monthly supply. They could care less about their members. Disgusting practice. Please be aware as they can and will do it to you.

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever come across especially if you’re a senior citizen.I’ve been waiting for over three months for reimbursement to no avail

I just tried (I mean I really tried) to complete their health risk assessment. There were several glaring problems. First, the survey would periodically fail. I’d have to go back and restart the process. This happened more than three times. Second, the skip patterns either didn’t work or if they were present would cause the survey to reboot. Finally, the system refused to accept my completed survey. This was not a good look. When I compare IH’s online customer service to someone like Liberty Mutual, we’ll let’s say there’s no comparison.

Pretty bad when insured customers have to pay money for eye glasses up front and wait for deductible to be sent to them!!!
