We are so appreciative of all the help the Red Cross has provided to me and my family after experiencing a natural disaster. Staff from the American Red Cross responded quickly and professionally. Very kind.

Professional nurses took good care of me to make sure I could more easily donate blood. My favorite venue in Buffalo for blood donation. See the history of this venue

I'm actually reviewing the American Red Cross Blood Drive in Lewiston, NY at the Lewiston Fire Co. #1. It was my first time giving blood and I will do it again. The people were very friendly when I went in and they learned it was my first time. There were a lot of people, they said it was one of the biggest turn outs they've had. It took me an hour and a half to get through it all. The process was easy and it really didn't feel like that long. Everything was thoroughly sanitized over and over. I felt comfortable and safe. I answered all the check in questions, had my blood pressure checked, my temperature was taken and finger pricked. Giving blood only took me 5 minutes....apparently my blood flowed quickly. There were snacks available afterwards. I did hear a lot of complaining from people working there....that it was a long day, they were tired and frustrated...but all in all the people were nice and friendly. It felt good to give and I plan to continue giving.

The American Red Cross is more than just blood drives and there are some great volunteer opportunities available. I am a volunteer for disaster services and volunteer recruitment. In these roles, with proper training I am able to deploy to a variety of disasters or other catastrophic events. We've had people deploy to areas such as Puerto Rico after the hurricane, the midwest after flooding and even here in WNY when a shelter is opened the Red Cross is there to respond. This doesn't apply to just large impact events as the Red Cross will come in and provide assistance after a house fire. As part of the disaster services team additionally you can train to participate in a variety of community and education opportunities such as Sound the Alarm where applicants get 3 FREE smoke alarms installed in their residence (no requirements) and receive fire safety education. Additionally there are opportunities such as the Pillowcase Project where volunteers come into school and discuss disaster preparedness at a school age appropriate level and provide a pillowcase to the students to help them be better prepared or at the adult level you can be a preparedness educator providing adults and teens with disaster preparedness education that covers topics like natural disasters, manmade disasters and active shooter. You'd be surprised how much supplies you should have on hand to be ready for just a few days. 90% of the work completed by the Red Cross is done by volunteers! That includes a variety of roles well beyond my own experiences above. You can provide administrative assistance in the office, volunteer for blood services by scheduling appointments and working the check-in table or providing transportation. Furthermore there are fundraising volunteers, volunteer recruitment volunteers and services to the Armed Forces. If you want to learn more, be a recipient of a service such as Sound the Alarm or interested in becoming more involved and make a difference in your community and beyond I highly recommend you check out:

I have taken classes with the American Red Cross multiple times. I recently registered on April 9th for a class taking place this Friday. Today I received an email saying my certification is about to expire and register today and save 20% off a class to renew. I am quite upset that after contacting someone I am told that I can not take advantage of this discount because I have already registered. I don't understand why when I received the initial email 2 weeks ago saying my membership is about to expire that email didn't have the same offer in it. Two years ago when I took the course I only took the CPR/AED portion, this time I am doing the step above and added First Aid which is a more expensive class. When it comes time to renew again in 2 years for my CPR I will be finding another place to go through, I am very displeased!
