Walked in with a picture of what I wanted because someone sent me on an errand to buy something for a festival. The guys working this shop are so friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. If they don’t have something out in the open then they definitely have it in their storage room. What really made my experience top notch was that the guy helping me asked what I needed the item for, and upon hearing the reason actually recommended the cheaper-priced option because I “didn’t need the heavy duty version.” That’s really great service. Probably the best local, family-owned shop I’ve ever been to in NYC; I wasn’t expecting it to be a hardware shop of all things.

Is there a time machine to the 1950s at Leopoldi Hardware? Bc the service here is consistently courteous, professional, and charming. Feel like I’m on the Truman Show in the best way possible.

This is how I remember hardware stores from decades ago. Why? Because that's what they were then, and so they remain.I was there most recently for honing oil, an old product that has become hard to find. I was sent there from a "I know what it is, but I haven't seen it in a while," competitor who is closer to my home.

A great little shop that's a lot better stocked and cheaper than the Lowes down the street despite being 1% of the latter's footprint. Friendly staff and fantastic paint selection
