Good Azerbaijan / Azeri restaurant. 1) Must get item is the Kutaby with meat or vegetarian. 2) For meat options, I got the chalakhach & lula kebabs. Both are good, but the chalakhach is amazing! 3) Only issue here is the language barrier I had with the servers. None knew English, only Azeri, Uzbek, Tajik, and Russian. Russian was the lingua Franca for them.

We visited NYC to celebrate friends birthday with a group of five. When I called to reserve the table 2 weeks in advance I was told that they are under new ownership and now I have to pay $50 so they can hold my table. The waiter was very friendly and can only speak Russian, mind that I was the only Russian speaking in my group. When ordered beverages we asked for water and they brought out bottled Fuji water. I asked for tap but they argued that tap has chlorine and this is only water they can serve. I asked them not to charge me for this if their tap isn’t available. Then two waiters were helping us. One young man who spoke English took orders from my friends, the main waiter told me to ask my friends not to order from that younger gentleman, but instead give him all the order. I found it very odd, and felt like I was in a department store and they were competing over commissions . The food came out in about 30 min, and they weren’t that busy. The food was delicious, the waiter was friendly, just a tad disorganized. They need to work on cleaningness of their bathrooms. It was absolutely disgusting and water everywhere on the floor, no soap or paper towels. At the end when we got our bill, there was a 10% service charge, which I questioned about. Their response was, that this is the charge for the plates and silverware use. I wasn’t aware I had to bring my own plates and silverware. ??♀️ it seems very convoluted and sneaky on their part. I doubt I’ll be back again!

Giving it 3 stars because there aren't very many vegetarian options, and there werent really and descriptions of what dishes are that are on the menu. Service was great but better if you can speak Russian because it's just easier to communicate that

Great tasting food, but the service is incredibly slow and disorganized. They couldnt get our order right time and again. We waited 1.5 hours for them to bring us the main course, while they kept bringing us the wrong salads and quantities. Also, if you chose to sit outside, beware that everyone smokes cigarettes like theres no tomorrow. So if you have respiratory issues, I recommend against sitting outside. Overall, it was an ok place, given the food and prices, but the service was a huge turn off. I don't think well go back there.

It was definitely a unique experience, mainly meant for locals in the know. We sort of took a chance and they were excitedly attentive. It felt like traveling abroad but just blocks from my apt. Everyone was so kind and gracious. Went on a Saturday early evening and there seemed to be mostly families, some groups of friends, having a chill dinner. If you know anything about the genre of restaurant, they often have a live singer performing Eastern European/ Eurasian covers a la karaoke system. Tbh, we found this to be a unique quirk we found endearing and your own perception will impact your time because it really depends on what you want out of it. They did share that they were under new management and would have a new menu soon so should they have those changes, I'd be happy to visit again and see what the differences are on what they have going on.I would say give them a try and be open minded about the experience. Personally, i was thrilled by the quirks. I loved the whole thing. But you know yourself, right?

super fun, old school soviet atmosphere with delicious central asian and soviet cuisine. on friday and saturday nights they have a live singer. between that and the shareable plates, it makes it the perfect place to take a fun group of people.(per other reviewers— they do try to upsell you as often as they can, especially on the compote [juice] but with firm nos, the bills are super reasonable!)

Dirty, waiters smoking, rude hostess who got mad when I didn’t respond to her in Russian. No wonder it was completely empty when I popped in
