About Narrows Botanical Gardens
Narrows Botanical Gardens is a small, beautiful park nestled within the larger Shore Road Park complex. Maintained by volunteers, the gardens are a peaceful place to relax and enjoy nature in any season. In late fall, the gardens remain lovely thanks to a variety of evergreen trees, while in late spring and summer, the vibrant blooms and lush greenery are even more spectacular. Visitors often stroll along the promenade, where they can observe small waves crashing on rocks, watch boats sail by, and enjoy the sight of the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, and blue sky above. The area is lively with diverse activities: people walking, running, playing sports like baseball, football, and basketball, and kids flying kites or enjoying the playground. Couples walk their dogs, and older adults engage in conversation or listen to music. Nature is alive here, with bees gathering nectar from roses, birds searching for food or building nests, and cormorants fishing in the water. The park offers a quiet spot to sit and meditate, with shaded trees perfect for reading, while others lie on the grass soaking up the sun. The promenade provides a calming view of the water, with the breeze gently touching visitors’ faces. The gardens and park create a serene environment that encourages people to slow down, observe, and appreciate the simple beauty around them.

Beautiful botanical gardens maintained by volunteers are good to visit in any season. This time I was in late fall and gardens still look lovely due to large number of evergreens strategically planted in various parts of gardens. Of course, best times to visit would in late spring and summer.

Such a peaceful place to sit back and relax. With a view of the river and beautiful trees all around. Very well maintained.
