I went to this gym for about a year. Great enviornment and has all the equipment you would need for a good workout! My only issues I ran into in this gym was the temperature and the closeness of some of the equipment. Kind of gym that feels muggy no matter what the weather is. Can be incredibly hot and humid at some times especially around the cardio machines. Not a big issue but for the cost of the membership this was one thing that always bothered me. Another thing I noticed was how close some of the machines are to one another. When you get your trainer certification (which I have) you learn that equipment placed too close together can be dangerous. There is a bench located right next to the warmup floor area, and if someone benching had to bail, their barbell could fall into the people stretching and hurt someone. The seated hamstring curl is also located very close to the shoulder machine next to it and you can't really use it if someone's on one of them. I still really enjoyed my time at this gym the staff is super chill and nice and it's kept clean! But these were some things I noticed. Thanks chalk for a good year :)

Overall been a member for close to 2 years and have to say Chalk is just ok. Before I go on about the downfalls of the gym, I want to say 5 stars when it comes to how clean the place is as well as how great the front staff are - specially Ryan. Ok- first and foremost I am all for spending the money but the Fee they charge is high for the experience you get. The equipment is easily from the 90s or max early 2000s and the owner has no interest in upgrading or getting new equipment. The owner is all about keeping his cost down, you can tell that because the guy has the thermostat on at 74 degrees and most of the time it is 76 or so in the upstairs area during the summer. On 90 degree plus days, Ive seen the temp measure 80 degrees plus- which frankly is not safe. Crunch for 20 dollars has the a/c flowing and blowing. The other thing is really some of the equipment has seen better days specially the main jungle gym which looks like its about to fall apart or is rarely maintained. The yoga mats are not looking hot too. I would really recommend a new chest fly machine and universal back machine with multiple grips. If you are looking for easy gym solely due to location, sure go for it thats why I did but I think the reality is its outdated and expensive for what it really is, and theres no plan for the owner to put a cent into the business.

My only complaint would be that the locker room is v small, and there are 1 or 2 machines that they don't have which most gyms do/should. However, it is truly the last gym standing in the neighborhood that has good lighting, a nice layout, and isn't disgustingly crowded. The sauna is a nice plus. Membership dues could be cheaper, but in today's world that's just how it goes.

One of the best decisions I ever made was getting a membership here. This gym has the best energy, staff, and feel. I truly look forward to my workouts here because I feel so comfortable in the space.

wish i could give zero stars... from an "average gym" stand point it can hold its own, but nothing special. what's most upsetting: i have had multiple snide remarks from the front desk when calling and asking about classes and membership questions. VERY rude, it's almost hard to believe they've hired such unkind people for an "everyone's welcome" type of gym... Additionally, when attempting to cancel my membership on the phone app-- got charged $120 the following month anyways... once again had to call the front desk (yikes) and explain to them what I had done to (what i believed) was cancellation via the phone app-- the remarks i got were "WELL, that's not enough." and a snide "WELL... that's how a gym works." And my favorite: "you need to email management, and MAYBE you'll get some of a reimbursement, IF YOURE LUCKY." woof.

I have tried many gyms, including equinox, and nothing compares to Chalk. The people who work here are so friendly and there is a true sense of community. Classes are great and there’s a wide variety to choose from. The instructors truly care and have helped me improve my overall fitness so much- big shout out to Annie and Sarah. All the equipment you need, and enough machines that you don’t have to wait even during busy times. Customer service is great. Truly can’t say enough wonderful things about Chalk!

Best gym in the area!! I used to go to Equinox and hated the vibe & the ridiculous price tag and membership terms. Chalk Gyms is easy to sign up & isn’t stuffy. People who go here are friendly & always clean after themselves.Staff is so nice, feels like a neighborhood gym which is hard to find in NYC. I’ve made friends with regulars, it makes going to the gym not intimidating. There are also free classes every day of the week including spin classes, and not crowded during the day before 5pm.

Stayed in Williamsburg as part of my vacation and knew that I needed to find a gym. Lucky for me this was within walking distance to where I was staying. Upon entering, Joey at the front desk was SUPER nice. Seriously, great kind guy delivering excellent customer service! I was impressed. The facility itself is pretty nice with it's brick walls and assortment of equipment and rooms. The equipment itself is older but if you know anything about lifting you know that this more than fine as newer equipment doesn't mean the workout is any better. Personally, I loved it. They also had the color coated plates designating the weights which was nice.Overall, if I lived here in Williamsburg, this would easily be my home gym. A great facility with excellent customer service. 5 out of 5!

I have been going to chalk for a few months now and absolutely love it! I moved to downtown Brooklyn but still go to chalk because it is the best gym I’ve been to. The classes are wonderful, instructors such as Sarah, Christina, Enosh, Jeannette, etc are wonderful and motivating! The front desk staff are amazing. Ryan is a wonderful Friday night wine night host and Matias is so friendly and helpful. I can truly call chalk a home away from home. Definitely a must join!
