Nice shop in the heart of Brooklyn, fair prices, cute items and best of all, the shop is actually the secret identity of a non-profit that promotes writing among young students (and often publishes it too). It's worth spending a few dollars to support them! (Plus the clerk was super nice).

Looking forward to checking out this shop soon. I grew up in San Francisco, the OG 826. Some of these negative comments are clearly from people who didn't bother to look up the website or read any of the reviews. The store front is meant to be gimmicky, targeting younger school age children. Though some adults may enjoy it too, depending on your personality. The proceeds support the 826 nonprofit which provides tutoring and literacy programs for children. There are locations throughout the country and each adjoining storefront features a different theme. NYC is superheroes. San Francisco is pirates. Don't know what the other stores are. I visited the one in LA but can't remember its theme anyway, if you're treating this as a normal retail space and expecting dirt cheap prices, you're missing the whole point. Cheers! Be kind to everyone.

I am grateful that a space like this exists. It's a supportive nurturing writing environment for all children. They offer free and slidding scale tuition. My son has attended In person and online classes. I appreciate this place so much I donate even when my son is not in attendance.

It is a great organization to support, but they don't answer emails and send a damaged product. That is discouraging.

This place is so much fun and just the coolest. The staff are super nice and the store is quirky and unique. They have everything needed for an aspiring super hero (and the world needs more of those). Good for kids (and heroes) off all ages (and adults too)… just bring your imagination. And all for a good cause too… even better!

Just came from there (7/11/21 5pm) had an AMAZING experience! Awesome FUN items all around. The girl at the shop (I forgot her name. Sorry) was super friendly and informative easy to talk too and very helpful. I came all the way from South FL to check this place out in person. Found a ton of nifty items I can actually use on the job. Keep up the great work helping the kids guys."Not all heroes wear capes"

This pace is only open Saturdays! The answering machine says otherwise and I took the long ride up there from Coney only to fond a dark store. Just putting this here so others know. Google maps is right! The answering machine is wrong! :)

Go west in downtown Brooklyn, past Prospect Park, and you’ll find the greatest inventory of superhero and arch-enemy paraphernalia in the New York City area. It has all you need to save/take over Downtown Brooklyn or even Flatbush. However, walk beyond the false bookcase at the back of the store and you’ll find the true reason for this store’s existence — a non-profit writing lab for school-aged children.

I was desperate for a replacement for particular pair of "lucky" socks that my husband, who has cancer, wears to radiation. I know it's silly, but thus far, his treatments have gone well, with few side effects, and he is beating the cancer. Then, I left the socks in another state.... and we didn't realize it until the day before his next treatment. I called the store- on a day they were closed - and they opened up just for me to get an identical pair! He wore them to his next treatment and again had a great outcome! Incredible service! Incredible people! I cannot thank you enough! P.S. Both the original & substitute pairs were purchased here, were priced right, were well made & have held up in the laundry. The store is stocked with delightful, charming items & is well worth a visit. Even before the aforementioned incident I would travel by bus & subway to shop for gifts from their fabulous merchandise.
