Honestly, I love my new LA FITNESS location, seeing as how they are the new owners of this location.
NOW, the Bay Plaza location has had issues with their Hvac system for years with the upstairs cooling.
However, the gym needs to do more with cooling alternatives. They have 1 large fan that's stationed in a poor location.
Olive Garden also suffers from the malls lack of proper cooling system. Yet they provide multiple cooling agents. Something that I hope LA FITNESS now prioritizes.
The steam room and sauna smell of mold almost as if they aren't being sanitized and cleaned regularly.
The lack of urgency for repairs is concerning, given the fact that they expect their payment on time regularly. 1 male bathroom stall, over a month with a broken cable now 2 broken cables. Multiple cushions are missing from machines and gripless equipment.
Hopefully, these things don't continue because then outside of location, this location will be just as poorly maintained as the Eastchester location.
Now, finally, both of the rooms for cycling and poising or aerobics class are locked 24/7, and when asked by staff to unlock them, it's an issue or they claim they can't!
Now, as a member of LA FITNESS for 3 years, I think it's extremely insulting that I can't utilize amenities that I pay for! If you're not going to offer the same amenities at this location, then adjust your rates...

I came in yesterday (8/6/2024) because it is now a LA fitness location. La Fitness just acquired over 35 X-sport locations. If you are a current LA fitness member, you can go to any location, so I thought I would give this location a try.
In short: this location is not good...at the moment.
The AC was busted and during a heat wave (8/6/2024)...wow. Sweat, and heat everywhere, paper towels all on the floor, just downright awful and miserable to be in. At least turn the fan on? Nope. There is some serious ventilation problems with this location.
Equipment is nice. Lots of free weights, dumbbells up to 125 lbs (maybe heavier), nice selection of machines, indoor turf, enough benches and power racks during peak hours. Good to build muscle. No issue here.
Free parking and parking permits for members. Very good.
Inside a mall with lots of shopping and food court. Nice!
Just fix the AC and clean up more and you will have a very promising Location.

*Edit* 10/13/2024 AC in the weight lifting area is still broken.

2 stars is generous. I’m a regular at this gym for 2 years now and the conditions have gotten worse. NEVER any weights on the rack they are ALL
over the gym several cable machines are broken. It has such great potential but it feels no one cares abt this place. The only reason I stay is bc I love the community I’ve built over the years. I’ve since gotten a blink membership and might cancel x sport cause what am I really paying for?

The lady who was working just now around 12:30pm 10/8/24 and answered the phone for 1 second and then hung up, and then proceeded to never answer again. Thank you, because I wanted a membership here and was inquiring on paying over the phone . Not anymore lol this place is a joke based off the customer service. Need new workers

Aside from the staff being nice, the fridge has no drinks, $3.00 parking fee to get in and the steam room was down.

Now LA fitness
2 out of 5 for their equipment (almost all their barbells are bent, some equipment is missing or damaged, now for some reason theres a shortage of cleaning equipment).
The location gets overly crowded, but it's in a mall, so it's to be expected.
Equipment needs fixing.

When I first started coming here a few months ago, this place was a mess. Horrible management, dirty asf, workers charging $20 to allow guests after 9pm, and never stocked up on napkin/soap.
Now that its under LA Fitness management, its somewhat better.

New ownership, LA Fitness. They removed the paper towel dispensers and raised prices. Staff often doesn't pick up the phone anymore. Very bad trend

I decided to give this gym a try since it’s part of La fitness. First of all, the workers in reception are always on their phone, they don’t even make sure that you even check in (keep in mind that I went to the gym 4 times around 6 pm and all 4 times the receptionist were on their phone). At this point, anyone can walk in!
The staff are very unfriendly and seem to be on their phone or joking around with one another , not doing their jobs. First time I went, I wasn’t even given a tour of the gym. There’s no staff walking around making sure that the weights are in place.
Bathrooms are dirty! I haven’t seen anyone clean the bathrooms last 4 times I went. Free weights are scattered around, hard to find them. Limited free space to work out with weights!
Please do better! At this point, planet fitness is better.
The only good thing is the classes!

It’s a LA Fitness now and it’s just like their Eastchester location. Muscle heads break the machines as per usual. But this one was a mess. The bathrooms are always dirty and the locker rooms are trashed. Not sure if they’re understaffed or if the staff just doesn’t care.

I thought it would be a good thing that LA fitness is taking over this gym but it’s HORRIBLE. There’s ZERO PAPER TOWELS OR CLEANING SUPPLIES to clean the gym that’s just disgusting and unsanitary. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. Planet fitness which is the cheapest gym is a million times MORE CLEAN.
