I'm not sure where to begin with this company. Things were going well in the first phase of planning and designing.
My wife who is an architect had a great idea to utilize the space in an angled ceiling upstairs. She contacted Closets By Design to get things going.
Initially, the drawing and planning went well. Things started to go downhill fast when the designer Alison went back on her original agreement that the organizer design was to use the entire space - front to back. This was decreased and later told us that it would cost extra money to utilize more of the rear space in the area, but this is not what was agreed upon because the designer said the software had a limitation and could not use the values given, however the product could be made according to the specifications provided by my wife. Well, that did not happen.
We ended up playing a game called "bait and switch". Where the manager, Heather, who originally would not respond to my wifes emails after a certain point did respond to me after some assertion in my message. We were told that since the measurement was not in the drawing they could not do it and the verbal agreement made with the designer was invalid and would end up costing us extra.
We were beyond frustrated at this point and wanted to cancel the project. The manager then told us they would rather not have that happen or it would not be good (implying collections) and that the organizer was already in fabrication.
All we could do was wait and get over it. The organizer was installed well by the millworkers and they were very pleasant to work with. Unfortunately, there was not enough material to finish the installation and slow-close hinges were needed on one of the doors. The millworker said they would have to comr back and wrote it in the installation order.
A week had passed and I emailed Heather asking for an update and asserting that we need this finished by the end of the week. We were told that the install team is on a roster and they needed people to be available. Okay, very strange. Another week went by and nothing. I stated firmly that I need this completed by the end of the month. There was no response from Heather, but we received a call from the installers.
They scheduled to return and complete the work. Unfortunately, they were told not to fully complete the work by the manager Heather and left the back portion of the organizer exposed as you can see in the picture.
Honest rating of this company is 1/5 stars for poor communication, deceitful tactics, dishonesty.
The millworker/install team were great 5/5 ⭐ and they were very courteous and understood they needed to return to finish the work as they "couldn't leave it like that".
We are now going to DIY the back portion so it is not exposed. $5100 for incomplete work and then some. I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone.

I was recruited by John and then went into to an interview with Heather which I was was hired for. I was sick for the training period for a period in September and was told i could join the October class. I have left messages and emails for both John and Heather and had no response. There here was no pay and it was a monthly hiring process which means that each month that need bring new people in. Just keep your heads up. If they're hiring new people monthly sounds fishy

I am so impressed by the professionalism, knowledge, timely fashion and cleanliness of this installer. Zach was awesome!!! I even called his manager!! This company was very easy to deal with. The designer Patty was just as amazing!!! And the price was right!
I highly recommend this company hands down!!!!

This company is heartless, unprofessional, and incompetent with customer
service. I had them design six of my closets, two of which have yet to be
measured, the other is missing doors and two closets not installed at all.
During the installation process my mother passed away and I had to
reschedule the installation. Closets by Design was very cruel, insisting on
installing while I had to deal with a family emergency. Closets by Design
wanted me to pay in full although the work was nowhere near complete. I
requested time to deal with my mother’s passing. They refused to work with
my schedule, harassed me for payment even though I had paid most of the
bill. I informed them that when installation was complete, I would pay the
balance. Closets by Design would not reschedule unless I paid in full. The
designer for Closets by design refused to assist with re-scheduling and
never accepted another call from me. When I call office to try to resolve this
issue they demand the balance. Nothing gets resolved. To make matters
worse they actually put mechanical lien on my house. Never have I
experienced such unprofessionalism. Customers are not valued or
appreciated by this business. I will now move forward to contact the
attorney general’s office to file a complaint.
Please BEWARE scheduling is complicated and difficult; they will not
complete the work; they will cut corners and demand payment
without completion. Never contacting you for any type of resolution.

DANA IS A STAR. She was the most patient, hardworking designer by far. ALWAYS followed up, ALWAYS communicated, was ALWAYS kind, professional and honest. REQUEST HER!!!!!! She worked with us on price as needed and provided ample guidance. So thankful she came recommended and gosh did she live up to her wonderful nature. She went above and beyond and worked with us for months to figure out a format that worked for our awkward space. DANA DANA DANA!!! Bohemia Location.

I cannot speak highly enough of the incredible work done by Closets By Design LI! From start to finish, their professionalism, design expertise, and efficiency were truly remarkable.
When I decided to transform my office/second room with a murphy bed and storage system, I reached to CBD to help bring my vision to life. CBD exceeded my expectations in every way. Their team demonstrated a keen eye for design, capturing exactly what I envisioned for the space and enhancing it with their own creative touches. The result is a stunning and functional room that I am proud to show off. There's plenty of room when the bed is folded, I have sufficient storage space for all of my belongings, and it's a nice backdrop for my zoom calls.
I was impressed by how quickly and seamlessly they completed the project. From the initial consultation to the installation, every step was executed with precision and attention to detail. I spent $1,500 on a small closet design which basically looks like a kid with building blocks designed!!! What a rip off!!!I ultimately purchased a stand alone closet for my other rooms which I assembled myself which look much better and are very stylish costing under $300 including shipping!! I wish I had thought of this sooner before I wasted my money ?!!!

Run, don’t walk away from this company!!! For almost $6000, I gifted my daughter with five shoddy closets and a heap of insulting, humiliating responses from the saleswoman, installation manager, and several women who answered calls at the company and would not put me through to any management. I was told “They have to discuss this situation and will call you, when they have time.” Worst of all, they charged my credit card for the second half, almost $3,000, WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT. I’m attaching photos of gaps, wasted space, and shelving that is too short leaving raw edged gaps in every closet. I have done a lot of business with other closet companies, and always had professional experiences. Closet by Design in Bohemia is after your money, not your repeat business. Don’t do it!!!!

NOT GOOD!!! Had them come to measure & was going to send estimate the next night. Never heard from again. Called the office and they had an attitude. Not apologetic at all. How do they do business like this?!!!

The quality is worse than ikea and it is overpriced for the quality. The drawers and moldings did not line up. I had to ask them to fix it 3 times and still the drawers are crooked. For an 11K closet system the drawers should opening and closing flawlessly! Massive waste of money. Biggest regret. They also do not budge when it comes to changing install dates, i tried to change install date and they wanted to cancel my order and make me pay 20%(3+k). Avoid!!

Although it's not my usual practice to leave negative feedback, my recent encounter compels me to express my profound dissatisfaction with both the quality of the work and the service provided by (CLOSET BY DESIGN). It's entirely unacceptable for any customer to receive work of such subpar quality, especially when considering the high standards your company should uphold.During the installation process, I noticed that several cabinets were missing back panels. I communicated with the installation guy and requested a pause in the work. Their office called me and directed me not to engage with the installer and to let the work continue.Under these circumstances, how can I be expected to allow the job to proceed when I'm clearly dissatisfied with the work?!Then, I received another call from Heather, who informed me that the company would be willing to add back panel at an additional cost of $970!- Back panels were not discussed in the consultation.- Cabinets always have a back panel- I was surprised that there was no back panel to cabinets. As a result, there's now an open space between the shelves and the wall.To be clear, I never requested a closet door or a full cabinet FREE of charge.All I asked for was a properly completed cabinet with its necessary panel.Ultimately, this job remains incomplete in the right way, and I'll need to hire another company to rectify the cabinets. As expected, the company's response was a simple "I'm sorry that you were unhappy."…I'm trying this company for the first time, and without a doubt, it will also be my last. I'm determined to post this issue on social media and inform my family and friends, urging them not to consider this company for future services.

choose another company They have proven that the customer comes last. They will do what's best for their schedule and their bottom line. We were very disappointed with the final design once it was installed and the poor customer service. Southampton NY

This company was unprofessional in every way possible. We met with designer in April everything went perfect he did the design and we were moving forward. Told us that he will be contacting us in a couple of days to let us know delivery date. I waited 2 weeks and didn't hear anything back. I texted and called him and he did not respond. I then called the office and spoke to secretary Joy she stated she would get in contact with him and have him reach out which she or he ever call us back. We waited a whole mth without anyone getting back to us. Finally called them to let them know that we did not want to move forward b/c they were unprofessional with no one responding. Manager heather claim her father passed away and couldn't attend to us. I said we were contacting your office prior to you not being in. Joy hung up the phone on me stating her boss told her she could hang up if i was getting loud with her. I called back and she kept hanging up or answering and putting me on hold. I would not recommend this company to anyone this service and customer service is horrendous. No one has answers for you. They all give excuses and nothing gets resolved. I have reported them to better business bureau!!!!!!
