I have been a customer of Butterscotch Auctions for five years. I registered for their last auction several days in advance. On the day of their auction I went to their website. For some inexplicable reason the website showed "Registration Pending" under my name instead of "Registration approved" and I was unable to access the live auction. As a last resort I went to Liveauctioneers, where Butterscotch charges a 5% higher premium, and I was the successful bidder for two lots. I called Butterscotch a few days after the auction and said I did not understand why my registration had not been approved. They said I had not paid for my last purchase and that they had blacklisted me.
I was blindsided by this. The last item I purchased from them was a Chippendale drop leaf and I paid for it immediately. A week later I drove two hours to their location to pick it up. When I looked at the table, I could see that the top was walnut and the base was mahogany. Anyone who has a basic knowledge of American furniture would know that this did not make sense, and that the top had been replaced. I had paid $1,000 for the table, and with a replaced top the table was worth $100.
In the online catalogue Butterscotch had described the table as "Very good condition." It was not. I pointed out the replaced top to Ryan, the young man in the office, and said I did not feel that I should have to take the table since it had been described very incorrectly. Ryan called the owner and the owner agreed to rescind the sale. I received a refund about two weeks later.
I had driven two hours either way because of the very inaccurate description of the table, but I accepted the situation.
I was stunned to learn that they have blacklisted me for this. As I talked to Ryan on the phone, I tried to explain what had happened and that it was not true that I had not paid for the last purchase. He said he did not have time to talk to me and that he was cancelling the two lots I had purchased on Liveauctioneers, and he hung up on me.
I was stunned. I still cannot believe that this is the way they would treat a client of many years who had always paid promptly.

I have bid (won and lost) several times. Company is very responsive and responsible to work with. At my request they suggested a shipper and it worked out very well. The posted pictures and item's description are accurate. Good job, Butterscotch!

While I own objects I purchased at Butterscotch, the gallery will not sell or give rights to photographs of them. Their personnel also indicated they do not entertain live bidding. They seem really inexperienced and beginners.

I have purchased from Butterscotch for over a decade. They acquire great estates and collections. Their descriptions are always professional and accurate. One of the better auction houses you could deal with in my opinion.

I first discovered Butterscotch Galleries several years ago when doing a search on Tibetan art. I am a collector of Asian antiques and antiquities so I have dealt with many auction houses. I bid on several items including a beautiful Thangka painting, which I won. Everything was incredible and the House could not have been more professional. The owner treats his auctions like a piece of beautiful artwork. There is balance, quality and excellence throughout every auction.

Declines your registration for their auctions but don't give you a reason.

Cannot get in contact with anyone here, and they decline your registration without giving you a reason why. I would encourage finding another auction house, because this one sucks.

Their service is 5 star when you have not paid them, but after being paid, their servie becomes 0 star - they will totally ignore you and focus their time on next money-making business!
