The staff was super friendly, the service took less time than expected, and I found the pricing to be very fair considering what was done. Grrreendog Grooming and Spa
1434 Western Ave, Albany5 stars isn’t enough!! Sundance and her crew are amazing. We have been using their services for more than 10 years now and have watched them successfully grow their business which has just been amazing to watch. They care for your animals like they are their own. Their top priority is the safety of your beloved pet and the health of their skin, coat, and overall well-being. We have long-hair and thick-coat animals. They have saved many mats and prevented our pups from developing bad skin conditions as a result. As one would expect, spot-cutting mats leaves quite the hairstyle but it’s better than a full shave or irritated skin and we appreciate the careful and skillful work they do with these challenge coats. Also one of our girls is a tri-paw and they made this beautiful apparatus to help her stand and be more comfortable during her grooming (the dog is also lazy so it helps to keep her standing too lol). I can’t say enough wonderful things about these people and the business they have created. ❤️

Pet Care
Sand Creek Animal Hospital
130 Wolf Rd, AlbanyI always have a great experience at Sand Creek! I cannot recommend them enough. I have been to vets in the past that made me feel silly for bringing my dog in for something that may be considered minor, but Sand Creek always makes me and my dog feel like a priority whether it is something big or small. The vet techs always do a great job in the room with making my dog and myself as comfortable as possible and showing my dog lots of love! I love the check out in the room and the side exit!

Pet Sitting & Training
All Dawgs
30 Railroad Ave, AlbanyReasons for 5 stars for All Dawgs: 1) Effective, 2) Humane, 3) Friendly, 4) Fun, 5) Accommodating.
In February I had an aggressive 5 yo mini-Aussie that hated other dogs and bit me 2x. Four short months later I now have a dog that pays attention to me even in the presence of other dogs and doesn't growl even when I pick up a piece of steak from between her front paws. And best of all, she's never been happier or more confident.
Poppy loves people but she began developing resource guarding and leash reactivity as a puppy. She breezed through puppy class but remained unusually dominant and willful (not my first dog, or even my first herding dog.) I hired a professional trainer recommended by my vet. His methods were effective in the short run but so harsh it left her with trachea damage and put me off professional training.
Summer 2023 I finally decided I had to find another professional. I was wary. I did my homework and enrolled in All Dawgs in-home dog-to--human aggression training. Before that could start Poppy bit me hard, really attacked me, when I absentmindedly reached for her bone from under a chair just a few hours after she tore her second ACL. Yes, she was in pain, but the aggression was not new.
Her aggression worsened over the long post-surgery convalescence. She lunged at me more than once when I tried to put her cone back on, teeth bared. I was heartbroken and afraid.
When she was well enough for training, I was nearly bitten again trying to muzzle train her (my fault). LuAnn was so great about it. She gave me another week to train muzzle-train her, which I did per their video. It was our first triumph. Our first at-home lesson was in late February 2024. Results were immediate. No joke. The progress was so fast I began to practice without her muzzle by the end of the first week. I also enrolled her in Reactive Rover (muzzled), a class with other leash reactive dogs. Scary.
Poppy graduated from both aggression classes with gold stars and a new attitude. We followed up with a Dawg Manners, a regular obedience class with other dogs in the room. I felt imposter syndrome, pretending she was just another dog. But she was great. She growled a little when a puppy bounded into her personal space, but a small verbal correction was all she needed. In fact, she began looking forward to going to All Dawgs. At this point she jumps out of the car with great excitement and would bound through the front door if she had her way.
We are now in Real World Obedience, a class that meets at remote locations like parks. On the very first day of class somebody's loose puppy crashed directly into Poppy at full speed (of all the dogs in that park!). No warning. Bam! Both the instructor and I nearly had a heart attack. Poppy was surprised but showed no aggression and settled right down. What a test. What a triumph!
We're also taking Intermediate Obedience. Poppy is calm, obedient, even relaxed in a closed room with half a dozen other dogs. She still likes her personal space, but it's three feet, not thirty feet.
Poppy finally has the owner she needs and I have the dog I knew she could be. Thank you, All Dawgs.

Good Choice Dog Training
18 Railroad Ave, AlbanyMy partner and I adopted our first dog and decided on Good Choice Dog Training for obedience training. What a good decision it was! Alissa and Barb were absolutely wonderful. They are really focused on encouraging your dog to make progress at their own pace, without fear. For people who are new to puppy parenting and need instructors who are patient and kind, I would 10/10 recommend. We also looked at PetSmart but what’s better than supporting local, small businesses?!

Happy Tails Dog Training and More
Sand Creek Rd, AlbanyMy daughter’s dog went through the three-week program with Rachel and Sophie. We were amazed with the results! When we dropped off Bagel (a sweet rescue girl), she was pulling on her leash and wouldn’t come when called, plus she had a lot of other bad habits. Now, Bagel heels when walking, focuses on commands and goes to “place.” I highly recommend Happy Tails!!

Pets At Ease Pet Sitting & Boarding
555 Sand Creek Rd, AlbanyMeg is amazing, my animals absolutely adore her! I cannot begin to cover how amazing it is to have multiple animals & still be able to travel with no worries! That was not always the case. Being able to leave town with zero worries is a godsend. When I moved into the area, Meg was a referral from another pet sitter that knew Meg could handle multiple animals, work with any breed and she would not shy away from special needs. The fact that all my furbabies absolutely love her is just icing on the cake. The furbabies and I are the fortunate ones, Meg makes it easy for us.

456 Madison Ave, AlbanyCharming, genial, and authentically local, my wife and I made a point of stopping in every single day we were in Albany. Grab a table for some eggs or a smoothie and talk about the Mets or their darts rivalry with the bar down the street. If you can’t stay, at least stop in. If you support small business this one is what it’s all about.

Iron Gate Cafe
182 Washington Ave, AlbanyBeautiful restored former mansion (and doctor's office!) hugely popular with locals, so get there early, it fills quickly. Breakfast options are plentiful and delicious - even the typically boring side of potatoes was excellent and flavorful. I had an awesome eggs Benedict that was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was polite and efficient too. Fairly laid-back vibe, several dining areas so it wasn't too noisy.
I also happened to meet (and interrupt) the owners while looking around - they were eating themselves but graciously spent time explaining the painstaking work it took to restore the place, down to using dental tools to remove some of the paint on the old decorative mouldings!
Kid-friendliness: Families were there with their kids and everyone seemed happy!

Emack & Bolio's Ice Cream
366 Delaware Ave, AlbanyA+ for ice cream flavor variety, although only three vegan options were offered; one of which was a sorbet. There are seats for dine-in and customer service was excellent at the time. Prices are steep, as I paid $8.37 for a single scoop and waffle cone. The ice cream lacks in richness but makes up in flavor. They also make ice cream cakes and ice cream-infused coffee drinks!

Nine Pin Cider Works
929 Broadway, AlbanyCome for the hard cider, food and drag shows, stay for the hard cider, food and drag shows. Love nine pin!!
Parking: There is parking but it’s not the best, depending on the time of day there is no parking, other times you just have to come back another day/time or wait for someone to leave. Needs improvement. Available parking is on street and a small lot of spaces on the side of the building, these aren’t the most accommodating for SUVs or large vehicles.
Kid-friendliness: This is a bar/tasting room, with food. Not a restaurant that happens to serve alcohol, people come here expecting not to be around kids, so leave kids with the sitter or go to Applebees.

The flavor is subtle and not overpowering. Whether sweet or savory, the flavor opens and develops as you enjoy the food. Said another way, the flavor is complex and refined.
