Mark Lawson is a scammer. He ripped me off. He bought some antique jewelry from me. One of the pieces was an antique white gold bracelet with tiny diamonds. He paid me for silver!!!!I have memory problems from head, injuries and brain damage so I had forgotten that it was a white gold piece. But later, when I was looking through my paperwork, I saw the insurance estimate which clearly stated this bracelet was white gold.By then it had been over six months since I had met with Mark, and been ripped off by his shady business practices

They state that they are a large antique buyer, but one cannot take ones antiques there for cash, one has to email photos. I sent a photo of an 18th Century Spain religious leather binder that was purchased at William Doyle Galleries in NYC many years ago with antique antiphonal, and an antique Asian vase. Lawson recommended a place further away to sell the 18th century leather and never responded about the vase at all even though it is supposedly rare and of unknown metal alloys, and Lawson has it is seeking Asian art on its website. Many of the antique stores I call in the Albany, NY area are closed down. I will never purchase another antique again because of the difficulty of resale. I should be able to resell my antiques the same day for a good price. I may have to go all the way to NYC. Some offer pawn shop prices for antiques in Upstate, NY. I recently sold a pair of 18th Century European portraits that were appraised by Sotheby at $1,500 (fifteen hundred dollars) more than two decades ago. I sold them for a mere for $150 (one hundred fifty dollars) at another Albany antique buyer. I will never purchase antiques again.

I want to sell several of my quality antiques that I purchased in Manhattan, NYC, and Mark Lawson Antiques, Inc. does not readily allow walk-ins that want to sell antiques, one needs to email photos. I do not like emailing photos of my private collection. I did email photos of two of my antiques, an 18th Century Spain leather bound cover with antique antiphonal purchased from William Doyle Galleries in NYC, and an antique Asian vase purchased in the 1970s from at an antique shop in Manhattan, NY. Several days later, I receive an email that he forwarded the information about the 18th Century book to an antique dealer that specializes in old manuscripts and similar--but that was located further away, and no mention of the Asian vase that is of unknown metal alloy photo I emailed. With the Lawson website, I thought I could just bring quality antiques there and get cash/check for them. I will never buy another antique again, difficult to resell, often pawnshop prices in Upstate, NY--the antique marketplace handbook does not apply in Upstate, NY. I recently sold a pair of 18th Century European portrait oil paintings that Sotheby quoted as worth $1,500 (fifteen hundred dollars) for a measly $150 (one hundred fifty dollars) to another antique buyer in Albany, NY. Very sad, and disappointing, and weird. Many antique shops in the Albany, NY area closed the recent years. Another NYS disaster. It goes beyond this, as a mixed race female, pre-senior, I see Upstate, NY not allowing friendly business situation for me, had to change to different self-employment business type three times so far--had organic agricultural business and was subverted; my agricultural invention, the grant getting initiative for my working prototypes subverted and red tape; working as a vender selling quality antiques to antique shops, not a real opportunity for me.

Several years ago, we inherited an art collection. The collection included over five hundred pieces of artwork from both Eastern European and American artists. (Including but not limited to oils, drawings, lithographs, engravings, and original inks.) Since the collection was not catalogued, we had no idea how to organize it, who some of the artists were and the overall value. We met with Mark Lawson, and he agreed to take on the task of researching the artist for each piece, organizing the collection, and eventually auctioning it for us. He was able to identify each piece and arrange an auction in less than 6 months. We were impressed by the professionalism and attention to detail that he and his staff exhibited. We were also pleased with the first auction in which a majority of the artwork was sold. Subsequently he arranged a second auction in which additional pieces were sold. Finally, with our approval donated the remainder of the artwork to a local charity. We would gladly recommend Mark Lawsons Antiques to anyone seeking appraisals or someone to sell items.

Be very wary of using this company to sell your items. I was unable to get my registration accepted by them on Invaluable despite spending over 100K in merchandise purchasing on that platform. This incompetence rips off their consignors.

gGhastly, Karen couldn't have been more cheeky/insolent/rude! Nothing worth bidding on with these people to go through that experience. Many other better houses to buy from or sell through.

The worst mistake I've made in years is bringing my items to Mark Lawson for appraisal / sale. Seller beware. You will get ripped off.

We met with Mark, March 2021, with a small collection of family heirlooms, jewelry, artwork, china and coins. Mark proved to be knowledgeable and fair. As Mark assessed each item he also gave a running commentary which was both interesting and educational.

12/10/2020After a few emails back and forth with Alexandra, we made a house call appointment with Mark Lawson to look at some items we were interested in selling, one of which was a large painting we did not want to transport. Before the appointment we received a detailed email as to what to expect at our appointment. Mark arrived on time and was very cordial and knowledgeable. He offered us fair market value for some gold jewelry we no longer wear, and he will be attempting to sell two items at auction. Our experience so far has been particularly good.

What a great experience working with Mark Lawson. His assistant helped me get things out of my car, get me setting up and was on time and very professional. Mark purchased quite a few jewelry items I had at a reasonable price He also gave me suggestions on where to sell the remainder of many of my items. Anyone looking to sell antique items would not be disappointed working with Mark Lawson..

Mark was able to help me liquidate many items on the day of the appointment and also gave me a solid plan for the future as I prepare to stage my home for sale.I enjoyed Mark's cordiality and that of his assistant. Communication from the business was excellent throughout the entire process.I would highly recommend Mark!

It was time to pass along some long held jewelry, coins and other items that were no longer needed and Mark helped us to do that. He was knowledgeable, professional and fair in his assessments and helped us accomplish our goals. Even more importantly he was personable and kind and shared his expertise without hesitation. We would highly recommend Mark Lawson and look forward to working with him again.
