Awful experience. They didn’t have the car that I booked, which was a Corolla or similar, so they gave me a free “upgrade” to a Mazda suv that had body damage all over and smelled awful inside. I refused to take the car, so they offered me some equally horrible Buick SUV. I refused this too because I was going on a road trip and originally wanted a Corolla for the gas mileage. In the end, the best they could do was the most basic, cheap Kia on the lot, and they didn’t give me any sort of refund to compensate the difference in price classes. I’ve always used Budget and always had a pleasant experience. I should have stuck with them. I will never use Dollar or anyone else in the Hertz/Dollar family again

The employee was a jerk and the manager was rude and very nasty. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Do not ever rent fromDollar or hertz at the albany airport!!!!! One guy working the desk total CRAP Everyone in line had a reservation and was prepaid Been in line hour and fifteen minutes so far STAY AWAY

This is basically a scam. They tried to put a $500 hold on the card that -was already- used to pay for the car weeks ago. There’s nothing in the contract that says they’ll do this. It’s not the money, it’s their casual disregard for a contract they already made and took the consideration for. It’s fine to put a hold on debit cards but not when you’ve already taken the money. They should be embarrassed but judging by the 2 star average here, they aren’t

I have been trying to get ahold of dollar for the past 2 weeks. They have not refunded my $500 yet and I have gone to the bank to see if there is anything on hold but shows nothing. It's been over a month now and the counter never picks up and customer service never sends me to a representative. If you want your money to be stolen DO NOT rent from dollar. Worst place I have ever rented from.

Horrible company! Had the car for less than a day and the battery died. Had towing pick up the car and was without a car the rest of my trip. I was told I was getting a refund and it still has yet to post (6 months later). Just looked at my bank statement and there is another charge posted!! I haven’t even used them since my awful experience with them. They clearly stored and illegally charged my card! They will be reported! DO NOT USE!! Spend the extra money with a reliable company! And “dollar”, don’t respond to my review and have me call you to get this resolved. Your customer service is a scam in itself.

Rented through a third party, got the same car class we paid for, line was 10 minutes, staff were pleasant and helpful, car worked well, and there were no surprise charges.Overall very happy with our rental.

Idk why there's soo many negative reviews. I've rented from them several times and the car is always clean and the hold on your deposit is returned the same day. I honestly can't think of a con.

Dollar at Albany airport is a mixed bag. I booked them 3 times during a stay in the area and chose the Manager's Special each time. Twice it worked well ( I took any car that wasn't popular that day or had poor gas consumption) and the young staff were friendly and competent ( check in and drop off in the garage). The final time I had an older gentleman who wore an Air force cap and mask and he interpreted this deal as ONLY a choice between a basic electric vehicle (100 mile range) or a double cab pick up. It seemed strange but he was adamant. The only way to get a normal car was by paying an extra hefty fee). When I reluctantly said the pickup was OK, it was immediately withdrawn from the offer so only the EV was available. I then had a lecture on why I should never have booked via Expedia and how the braking system was tricky on the EV. All in all, after booking rental cars in the USA for over 40 years this was the worst counter clerk I have come across.Having never driven an electric car I was indeed nervous about setting off in the dark and driving my 8 month old granddaughter in it the next day.Luckily the lovely young lady of south Asian heritage in the garage took pity on me and found a nice simple sedan car for me to drive for the week using her own initiative.My advice is to work out where you are in the line and do not get served by this guy. It may just have been a case of over aggressive upselling but the difference between the staff was huge.

RESERVE ONLINE, GO INSIDE AIRPORT!!It's unfortunate that they're labeled as the garage for the location, you need to go inside the airport to get your information and you just go to the kiosk in the garage to get your car. We had a fantastic experience, but were held up by someone trying to reserve at the garage kiosk, stupid lol. We were upgraded to a minivan because their inventory was limited which worked out well. The lady inside the airport terminal desk was very nice and helpful. I would come back and book with them again.

I was a little hesitant to rent here for a 3 week vacation based on the poor reviews. But because I could prepay in my native currency, I gave them the business over Budget. So I want to counter the bad reviews with the generally positive experience.Cons:1. understaffed for 4pm on a weekday. There was only one gentleman at the desk for both Dollar and Hertz. We waited about 45 minutes and were 3rd in line. This is my only con but it is a huge one. 4 stars instead of 5.Pro:1. I could prepay in my native (Argentina) currency. FYI, you pay the US sales tax when you pickup the car. This is clearly explained in the voucher you receive after prepayment.2. $200 "hold": This is lower than almost everyone else and was refunded same day back to my card.3. The car was well maintained4. Drop off: went quickly (the Asian woman is fantastic) and they even called a baggage porter from the terminal because we had 6 bags.5. Billing: all was correct and I was so skeptical I kept the receipts for 2 weeks!6. The LDW and Additional Driver coverages are covered in the cost of the car (Note: this is probably only true for foreigners since we don't have insurance valid in the USA).We will definitely use Dollar/this location again when we next visit the USA. Car needed maintenance when I got it. I think they probably knew that. Check in was impersonal to the point of being rude and I was encouraged to purchase the most expensive liability/insurance protection without asking if I needed any part of it. 3 starts because check in was friendly and fast

Customer Service was top notch. My only con is it was furthest in the garage, from the terminal.
