I brought a group of people to the Albany area to check out this shop. We were greeted with rudeness and hostility. I'm assuming it is/was the owner. He pointed his finger at us and with wild eyes, he told us the " we better not touch anything...If you break it, you'll buy it!" He also told us that we'd pay more than their value. My group was sad and disappointed. This was probably the rudest individual I've ever met. One must learn how to "conduct" one's self.

The owner left an extremely rude note on my car because I used PUBLIC STREET PARKING, in front of their shop. Meanwhile I work at the building next door. I did not realize it was illegal to use public street parking if a nearby business owner doesn’t like it. I do not work in public education, teaching your grandkids, so I can be harassed about where I park. Good day.

Owner doesn't want you visit unless you're going to buy something. Wast of time visiting from another state.

It is hard to write this review as there are so few train stores in the Capitol District. However, this store is small, the inventory is very old (not like "classic 1950s Lionel" old, more like "dusty late 1970s Tyco trains old), and the prices are not very good. While the owner is friendly, it seems as though most of what is in the store has probably been there at least 15 years. The prices are what things might have retailed for when they were new, but much of the older stuff has been eclipsed with better, more detailed models. As a result, the prices should be reduced to match what you might find used on EBay or at train shows but they are not. Regarding his really old Lionel/O scale stuff, his prices are okay but again you can usually find the items in comparable condition cheaper on EBay. The owner frequently brings the same inventory to train shows too, and I rarely see it change (or priced lower to sell).

Great find in Albany. Large selection of used electric trains and accessories at great prices! Much less expensive than on online auctions. Owner highly knowledgeable and willing to negotiate on prices. Bought several O and HO gage engines. Will come back again!

I'll preface my review: I have NO knowledge of model trains (not a hobby of mine), so take my opinions with a grain of salt. I've purchased a locomotive from this store before, along with the train set, and have been really happy. I'm having trouble with the set now, but that's because I'm no train buff and probably haven't kept up with it as well as I should (I only use it for a miniature Christmas village). Now, I'm ready to purchase a new set. I spoke with the owner, Vince, on the phone, as he's always friendly and helpful. He's very accommodating about meeting time and explaining some of the trains to me. It's nice to be able to trust someone if you don't know all about the hobby yourself. I'm planning on visiting Delaware Trains at the show in Albany tomorrow, where I'll be purchasing a new steam locomotive. I wouldn't go anywhere else for this hobby!

Other than the occasional obsessive, no one really plays with toy trains anymore. I've gone here a couple of times thinking the owner may as well be selling audio cassettes or typewriters. The shop is small, dusty and always devoid of customers, yet the elderly owner is hopeful, convivial, and resigned to the fact he's probably not going to make a sale. There are odd little items, miniature buildings and HO scale plastic humans that might be fun to use for projects unrelated to their intended purposes. Three stars to simply recommend a visit to a slowly dying sub-culture.
