The proprietor of Taos tack, Tom Garcia is an extremely knowledgeable horseman, trainer and breeder who carries on the storied Spanish Vaquero tradition of riding and horsemanship. His store has a wide selection of treasures in western tack from well known makers in that tradition including elaborately crafted headstalls, bosals, bridle bits, and of course, western saddles, primarily from storied saddle maker McCall. If you're looking for any kind of quality tack in NM, this is the place in NM. Otherwise you'll need to go to TX, and you'll never find some of the rare and special pieces of Vaquero gear that Tom carries in his store. Aside from tack, Tom has a great selection of pet and livestock feed, as well as essentials and goodies for your 4-leg companions.

Down one star only due to higher pricing. However, they carry quality pet foods that you can't find in your typical grocery store.

I like this store and the location is close to my home but unfortunately I have to take my business elsewhere. To make jokes about the bible to a known born again Christian, who received real supernatural help from Jesus when called upon, in the privacy of my home, is tacky and Anti -Semitic. The old testament is the Torah and is literally the history of the Jews. My daughter has Russian Jewish roots and I will not tolerate it. The owner made a bad joke referring to why the Israelites wandered 40 years in the desert. It broke my heart to hear such nonsense. Yet. I am sure he thinks the Bible is nonsense- a book which has helped me become a better mother and person and which has blessed my lifeI I am praying for the owner's well being but I cannot tolerate anymore. It was the second time I heard him make this type of joke, in the store. I am a patient person but I won't tolerate what insults and humor that is condescending. Not professional, whether he agrees with my faith in Jesus and God or not- it is unkind and uncouth.

New to the area and did not have my chewy shipment scheduled for the new house. I came here looking for Acana, a brand my dog is very familiar with. The owner of the store walked me through the brands he sold and said 'everything in these are the same, but you're paying more for shipping costs'. I was a bit skeptical due to my boxers sensitive stomachs. I left and purchased some raw at another pet store. I should have taken his word for it, and trusted the owner. It's better than Acana. The price is 20 bucks lower for the same ingredients but Zignature adds probiotics. This store also sells Raw food at a way better price you'll find anywhere else in town. TLDR: store owner is very knowledgeable on products he sells. Would recommend for best prices on high quality kibble and raw.

Google says they are open on Sunday. Drove an hour to get here to buy chicken feed as my hens have been out of feed for days and according to Google they're the only place open on Sunday but nope, closed. There's even people inside, come on. You're a business, it's your job to update your hours instead of wasting people's time. Also when I stopped by once before during the pandemic they seemed to be pretty anti mask.

I Went there with a friend a couple weeks ago. There were lots of people hanging out in store either working there or knew people working there, none were wearing masks. They sold my friend the wrong product, when she came back to get a refund they refused to give it to her and were belligerent. The company that makes the product was told about this and they issued her a refund. That's the difference between a successful business an unsuccessful one.

I've been buying cat litter from Taos Tack since I moved here last August. Recently bought frozen raw cat food because Blue Sky was out. When I bought the second bag they didn't have the small size so I got the larger one... when I got it home I noticed it was dog food so took it back. The guy behind the counter who I believe is the owner was mask-free during mask mandate... claimed it didn't matter dog or cat as the food is made from the same ingredients. I researched it online and discovered they are not the same ingredients, called Instinct where I learned that cats should not eat the dog formula (over a long period of time) and assured me that they take returns even if opened. Also, when I opened the bag the pieces were the size of hockey pucks requiring I cut them in quarters. Again I returned the bag to the unmasked owner who refused to take the bag back because it had been opened. By this time I was angry, left the bag on the counter and stormed out saying, "You will never see my face in here again." He quickly replied, "We didn't see you in here often anyway!" Well I'm glad he thinks he can treat customers this way and cast them aside! I immediately got on the phone with Instinct who wanted to know the business name and promised to send a refund if I have the receipt (indeed I do). Good ending to the story! I have great things to say about Instinct... but would not recommend even walking into Taos Tack.

When I went there, no one was wearing masks and there were a fair amount of people just hanging out by the register. They sold my friend the wrong product and then later refused to give her a refund. Very rude.

A brave man who is serving our community well. God bless these owners. Best pet supply store in Taos.

Great pet supply store and was happy to see they had Ivermectin on stock as it is hard to find, lately. Although, I heard recently they do not carry it? Hoping I find out it is not true.

Small town store with everything you need to care for your animals. Owners may be opinionated, but then again, you probably are too. Doesn’t take from the fact that they have a good selection at good prices and are family owned locals.
