Taos Tack & Pet Supply
710 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur # 20, TaosThe proprietor of Taos tack, Tom Garcia is an extremely knowledgeable horseman, trainer and breeder who carries on the storied Spanish Vaquero tradition of riding and horsemanship. His store has a wide selection of treasures in western tack from well known makers in that tradition including elaborately crafted headstalls, bosals, bridle bits, and of course, western saddles, primarily from storied saddle maker McCall. If you're looking for any kind of quality tack in NM, this is the place in NM. Otherwise you'll need to go to TX, and you'll never find some of the rare and special pieces of Vaquero gear that Tom carries in his store. Aside from tack, Tom has a great selection of pet and livestock feed, as well as essentials and goodies for your 4-leg companions.

Pet Care
Salazar Road Veterinary Clinic
1025 Salazar Rd, TaosOur dogs have received stellar care at Salazar for many years. All Salazar vets and techs are excellent in expertise, communication, and compassion. On our most recent visit for Ellie’s annual exam, we got to meet Dr. Clara Maxam who was also outstanding. We love that she followed up with an email of helpful information. Reception staff are really great too.
Big thanks to all!

Schupbach Ted a DVM
41 NM-522, TaosTed Schubach has been my vet for over 40 years. He is awesome and always has been there for our many pets over the years. The pandemic has changed the face of veterinary care in Taos. Many people moved to Taos with pets, overloading the already busy clinics in town. We only have 2 vet clinics for all of Taos County. Last year we had a dog emergency and rushed to Taos Vet only to find they were closed for lunch! So we rushed to Salazar Vet and received care only to return to Taos Vet after the crisis had subsided. When Dr Schubach was not overwhelmed by the shear need in Taos...he would make house calls to care for dying pets. In the last year we needed our elder chihuahua put down and he graciously came out to our car to euthanize our Venny in our arms. These are not cold heartless people...they are overworked and overwhelmed. They have compassion and heart and I am sorry that anyone may feel different. They can only see so many patients in a day. They only have 2 doctors. People have forgotten what Covid did to our healthcare system.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants
Aji
309 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, TaosMy wife and I had dinner here on Saturday (10/26) and it was a excellent experience, as usual. The service is very attentive and friendly but also very professional; makes you feel at home. And food was really good. We tried the Brussels Huancaina for the first time what a nice surprise it was! The seafood pasta and the duck, both superb. On top of everything, the place is beautiful!

A Salty Little Sweet Shop
105 B, Quesnel, TaosThis is such a cute shop with very friendly service and amazing sweets! I tried the lemon bar and a cookie. I also bought some caramels. The baked goods are incredible. I wish I had an appetite for ice cream because the selection looked wide. There was a very cute dog when I visited! Definitely drop by, their hours are great! We enjoyed our lemon bar outside on their bench on a very nice day.

La Cueva Cafe
135 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, TaosGot a few recommendations for this place. It doesn't look like much from the outside, especially with the road work going on, but don't let that discourage you. It seems to be a collection of small seating areas and an outdoor seating area. We ordered some chips and salsa, shrimp enchiladas in a creme sauce, and a veggie burrito. We have a lot of good Mexican places in Atlanta, but La Cueva would be in the top 3 of any list. The chips and salsa are not free, but worth paying for. Excellent salsa. The veggie burrito got a thumbs up and the shrimp enchiladas were simply excellent. The creme sauce made the dish. Even the rice and beans were a cut above. There service was fast and efficient too. We share a flan for desert and it too was a cut above. Just a very good place for Mexican food.

La Terraza de Taos Cocina
832 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur Top Floor, TaosThis place is fabulous!! The crab or seafood enchiladas were amazing!! FULL of fresh meats and topped with one of the best sauces I've ever had. Anywhere. The calamari was also fantastic and fresh....if you like fresh seafood w a Mexican flare...GO HERE!! Really recommend and can't wait to visit again! (I would skip the queso next time...) It's upstairs above an Italian place, has great patio seating!! Dog friendly. Not a lot of space inside to sit. Service was phenomenal. Go try it!

Orlando's
1114 Don Juan Valdez Ln, TaosEverything was great except the taco shell falls apart. The taco meat was extremely good and my tamale and enchilada were great, just can't hold a taco to eat it if shell disintegrates.

Gutiz
812B Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, TaosWe tried 3 items on the menu for lunch, Mussels in a thick broth, Paella with seafood and sausage and beans - all 3 were excellent and rich in flavor and depth. The wine list was minimal unfortunately, but the house red worked and palatable, the red sangria was very pleasant and a nice presentation. Parking is available and service was delightful. Another “out of the blue” winner and well worth the visit. BTW: it was lovely to see the place was dog friendly and all the dogs were very well behaved. You will not be disappointed.

WILD LEAVEN BAKERY, TAOS
in the Yucca Plaza, 216 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, TaosWonderful visit to Wild Leaven Bakery. We picked up Ham and Cheese Croissants, Apple Turnover and scones. The Ham and Cheese Croissants were hands down best I've ever had. The Apple turnover was amazing and the scones disappeared before I could try them! By no means cheap, you certainly get your monies worth here. Top quality and out of this world taste. Tucked away in a little commercial strip this bakery is worth mapping and making an early morning visit.

Mary Janes Home Cooking
616 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, TaosLoved this place. Quick and delicious and didn't break the bank. Generous food portions and didn't take long to get our food. It's a food truck that has several hard workers preparing your food! Order at window and they call you when it's done. Went in October so it was perfect weather to sit outside in their patio area. They also have several picnic tables. They are located in the parking lot of other businesses in an L shaped shopping center that houses a coffee shop and bakery. So there is plenty of selection for all in your group. Would highly recommend the huevos rancheros for breakfast!

Martyrs Steakhouse
146 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, TaosMy companion and I have been spending some time in Taos and eating in a lot of the local restaurants. Over the last six weeks we have enjoyed Martyr's every Friday evening for a drink. The bartender has been incredibly friendly and helpful and the drinks have been wonderfully balanced. The benefit of sitting at the bar for an after work week drink is that you get to watch the small but mighty kitchen put out plate after plate of delicious smelling, wonderful looking and ultimately tasty food. We've ordered a number of different items over the last two months and split each one of them. They have been absolutely wonderful, full of flavor and beautifully plated. The last dish we had was the crabcake with two tenderloin medallions on a bed of spinach mashed potatoes. The tenderloin was perfectly cooked and the crabcake was full of lump crab meat. I will also note that we had our rehearsal dinner at the restaurant for 24 of our friends. The service was spot on and the food was wonderful. Prior to our special night the hostess/manager went through the menu with us as well as the seating arrangements. Martyr's was very accommodating. It was obvious that she was interested in making sure our special night was indeed special.

Stray Hearts Taos Animal Shelter
1200 Saint Frances Ln, TaosThe folks at this shelter clearly care very much about both the emotional and physical well-being of the animals they're responsible for. Chris introduced us to some of the cats we would be compatible with and helped us find the cat we would be the best family for. I am really impressed with how clean and content all of their cats seemed. And I am really happy with the animal they set us up with.
We've had great experiences adopting from them before and I'm glad we chose to go back.
