Pet Grooming

Avalyn's Paw Spa
1036 Reed St Suite B, TaosGreat place to bring your pet to be groomed and loved on! We would bring our pups from Espanola to be groomed and they always looked fabulous after. My Edward was elderly, he needed breaks and patience when being groomed, that’s exactly what he got. Trusted groomer you won’t be disappointed with any service or price!

Doggy Shop Grooming of Taos
1033 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur Suite G, TaosI took my 95 pound dog in and he is generally terrified to go into buildings, period. I was so nervous, but Lydia saw me outside struggling and she came right out so calm and helped me get Finn inside. When I picked him up, he was happy and calm. They did an amazing job on deshedding him and nails! He looks amazing. Cannot thank you guys enough!

Pet Care

Schupbach Ted a DVM
41 NM-522, TaosTed Schubach has been my vet for over 40 years. He is awesome and always has been there for our many pets over the years. The pandemic has changed the face of veterinary care in Taos. Many people moved to Taos with pets, overloading the already busy clinics in town. We only have 2 vet clinics for all of Taos County. Last year we had a dog emergency and rushed to Taos Vet only to find they were closed for lunch! So we rushed to Salazar Vet and received care only to return to Taos Vet after the crisis had subsided. When Dr Schubach was not overwhelmed by the shear need in Taos...he would make house calls to care for dying pets. In the last year we needed our elder chihuahua put down and he graciously came out to our car to euthanize our Venny in our arms. These are not cold heartless people...they are overworked and overwhelmed. They have compassion and heart and I am sorry that anyone may feel different. They can only see so many patients in a day. They only have 2 doctors. People have forgotten what Covid did to our healthcare system.

Salazar Road Veterinary Clinic
1025 Salazar Rd, TaosOur dogs have received stellar care at Salazar for many years. All Salazar vets and techs are excellent in expertise, communication, and compassion. On our most recent visit for Ellie’s annual exam, we got to meet Dr. Clara Maxam who was also outstanding. We love that she followed up with an email of helpful information. Reception staff are really great too.
Big thanks to all!

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

A Salty Little Sweet Shop
105 B, Quesnel, TaosMy guy and I had to stop here based on all the reviews. Unfortunately, my guy was sad because they no longer sell cinnamon rolls here and he was very excited to have one. Thankfully, we still ended up finding a good alternative: Strawberry Ice Cream Sammich with homemade vanilla ice cream. Now, anyone who knows me knows I love chocolate way more than vanilla. However, this was quite possibly the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had! It was incredible! The cookies for the sammich were pretty sweet on their own, so the homemade ice cream definitely helped with that. I also tried one of their homemade Salted Caramels, but I wasn't a fan of them. The kind owner gave my guy and I some treats for our dogs to try and they loved it! I really wish I had bought a whole bag for them because they are packed with great ingredients and they were very fresh. Highly recommend if you find yourself in the area!

The Espresso Bar @ Taos Valley Lodge
615 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, TaosThis is my favorite coffee shop in town, in spite of changes the new owners have made. The staff is always friendly and the service is great. The coffee isn't quite as good since the new ownership took over, and I really miss the fun seasonal drink menus the previous owners offered. But overall, one of the most consistently good and unpretentious coffee spots in Taos.

Alys A La Cart
625 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, TaosI wanted to come here since I’ve never had New Zealand food. We tried their meat pies (mince and cheese and beef bourguignon) and fish and chips. They ran out of the Moroccan butternut squash. The meat pies were delicious! The pastry was so flaky. The fish and chips were okay.
They have an outdoor patio. Indoor seating was a bit cramped. Their staff were friendly.

La Cueva Cafe
135 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, TaosCame here for dinner while in Taos for the night. I selected it based on it being #1 on Yelp for Mexican restaurants. What sealed the deal was realizing it was the place with the huge line I passed about an hour earlier on my way into town.
I arrived around 5PM and inspite of the earlier line, I was able to be seated immediately. The dining room I was in had 4 tables, and only one for 4 people. It was cozy. I loved it.
I ordered chips and salsa and the Rellenos NM. It is quite possible these were the absolute best chile rellenos I have ever had. They were sublime.
If I was staying here for a few days I'd probably have dinner here each night just to have some of the other menu items.
Do yourself a favor if you're in Taos. Eat here. You won't regret it.

Manzanita Market
103 N Plaza, TaosA simple fresh cafe vibes with amazing food to fork cusine. If they dont make it in house they buy from small local makers. All organic high vibe ingredients.
Its a seat yourself and order at the counter place. The line moves quick and the food comes quick.
I eat here everytime I come to Taos.
Oh dont miss the icecream..its amazing...especially if you are dairy free, they always have 2 vegan flavors, some of the best in the country in my opinion.

If you’re a tea drinker, get the blueberry tea. You’ll love it. We enjoyed the patio with beverages and appetizers. The white queso was good but the nachos with lamb were my favorite.

Stray Hearts Taos Animal Shelter
1200 Saint Frances Ln, TaosThe folks at this shelter clearly care very much about both the emotional and physical well-being of the animals they're responsible for. Chris introduced us to some of the cats we would be compatible with and helped us find the cat we would be the best family for. I am really impressed with how clean and content all of their cats seemed. And I am really happy with the animal they set us up with.
We've had great experiences adopting from them before and I'm glad we chose to go back.
