As an older person and a relative beginner in yoga practice, I count myself very fortunate indeed to have found Susan. Her many years of teaching experience coupled with her infinite patience and good humor make her one of the best instructors you could ever hope to find. The Yoga1 Studio is a small, intimate space that lends itself particularly well to the intensive but friendly and non-competitive practice of yoga that Susan offers.

If you are older, overweight or physically limited, it is easy to feel out of place in a yoga class. Especially when so many practitioners seem to be so svelte and flexible. Susan is very knowledgeable and has great respect for the capabilities of the human body in any shape or form. She is so positive, and has never made me feel uncomfortable or pushed me to do more than I felt I could do. She also knows many modifications where you can accomplish the same thing in less strenuous poses. Highly recommended for any age or fitness level!

Yoga 1 IS Susan Voorhees and Susan knows what she's doing. She's done it for decades, and it shows. Add to this who Susan appears to be (a teacher with little ego investment), and what do you get? Sound instruction, infinite nurturing, acceptance, thoughtful attention and encouragement. Brava, Susan! And thank you.

Susan Voorhees is Iyengar trained yoga teacher. I love her classes because she fills the hour and a half classes with a range of stretches and poses, sometimes throws in some tai chi or Pilates. I know some people are afraid that they will have to stand on your head or have a painful experience. Not true. Some people in the classes have bad knees or back problems or stiff joints. No worries. Susan never forces anything on anyone. She is very helpful by suggesting options to benefit your yoga practice. The classes are not crowded, there is room for personal space. I find that Susan and fellow students are friendly, welcoming and supportive.

I've been going to Susan's classes for more than 25 years. From the beginning the classes felt to me more like explorations than drills, and I've always appreciated the way she listens to and tailors poses for each individual. What a boon these classes have been!

If you are looking for a class where you will get a wonderful yoga workout that strengthens and balances your body and mind, this is the one! I have been going to Yoga 1 Studio for 15+ years. After trying many other yoga studios in town, I have been so happy working with Susan Voorhees. She works with everyone's physical needs and you will not get hurt in this class. This is the best thing I do for myself!

I've been staying flexible with Yoga 1 for over 15 years. Susan is very knowledgeable on all aspects of Iyengar yoga and it's practice. For variety she also brings insights from Pilates, massage, and various Eastern philosophies.

I had the joy of taking Susan's Sat 9AM class a few weeks ago. It was excellent. It was evident that Susan is an experienced and knowledgeable teacher and puts a lot of thought into how she approaches the class. The atmosphere was low key, calm and loving. I so enjoyed! If you have wanted to try yoga but feel slightly unsure or intimidated, this would be a great place to start! Shelly Sheppick

I have taken Yoga lessons for many years from many fine teaches. Susan Voorhees ranks as one of the best. She teaches in the Iyengar tradition in that she does not rush through poses and emphasizes alignment, but she brings so much more to the practice. She is schooled in pilates and tai chi and I think many other practices. She brings this wealth of knowledge and her extensive experience teaching to every lesson. No lesson is the same, yet each seems to be just what I need. Her lessons are truly meditation in action. Each class ends with my mind and body relaxed and strengthened.
