I stopped in to Turquoise House in Santa Fe because of the Kabana jewelry sign out front. WOW!! Such beautiful pieces on display! Joe pointed out a few opal pieces but a stunning spiny oyster sunrise pendant caught my eye. The design and colors seemed to represent the southwest to me. Since I'm a collector, Joe and I spoke at length about Kabana jewelry and the fact that it is still made in Albuquerque by the founder, his family, and extended family. He shared his knowledge of the brand from first hand personal experience with them and not just a distributor looking to make a sale. Joe also offered to see if he could make an appointment with Kabana for us to tour their facility and see how they make their pieces. He called me the next day to confirm we had an appointment to take a tour. How exciting!! We met him at the Turquoise House, we drove to Albuquerque together, and we took the tour. We learned how each piece is made by hand and each employee involved from design all the way through to the end result. We even got to meet Stavros, the founder of the company. This was an amazing experience for me - to see fine jewelry being made, to meet the friendliest people and be welcomed there was amazing. This was my first trip to Santa Fe and even with all the natural beauty of the area, Joe made this visit most memorable. Joe's kindness and knowledge is genuine and the best in class.
Go see him - he has so many beautiful items representative of the Southwest you will not be disappointed or feel like just another shopper. Joe is the real treasure of Turquoise House - he's more than a shop keeper - he's a true friend. If I could give more than five stars I would! Louise

The owner was very helpful and friendly. He answered my questions about turquoise and particular pieces I was looking at. He has a very large selection of turquoise items. He was very knowledgeable and I didn't feel pressured to make a purchase.

Great customer service and the selection of jewelry is pretty impressive for the size of the store. I will definitely go back when I am in Santa Fe again.

The owner Joe accosted my wife and daughter in the parking lot.He touched my wife without permission and was rude and a liar. He stated he owned the parking lot. Ha, no Water Street Holdings, LLC owns the lot and is the landlord. She was parked in a space that the manager of the store has given her permission to park in (since she is a loyal customer for over 11 years and visits regularly). Joe said "I own this lot" and proceeded to shove her hand while she was explaining.

The owner is rude and belligerent. Apparently he owns the parking lot? Anyway, he touched and pushed my hand when I told him we were parked in a spot because we were going to that business. Absolutely a horrible human being. Zero stars.

This was the first shop we hit in Santa Fe and the owner, Joe, couldn't have been friendlier or more hospitable. When I mentioned I was looking for a small piece of uncut turquoise for my 5 year old grandson's collection, he gave me a small piece gratis. I went back a few days later to purchase a turquoise and silver heart necklace. It was quite reasonably priced, a high quality name brand, beautiful and a big hit with my wife. If you need jewelry or related turquoise artwork - check out the Turquoise House!

We first entered Joe's TURQUOISE HOUSE (right under the COYOTE ROOFTOP BAR on W Water) 7 years ago with dear friends who live nearby. Friends had gotten authentic Native-Made jewelry & art for decades. Joe has a great selection that changes depending on what estates & artists bring their treasures to him. Whatever your budget, Joe can accommodate it. We couldn't decide on which Squash Blossom to get for my birthday, a Spiny Oyster more modern style or the Bear Claw version. After taking the orange oyster & walking the 4 minutes back to the Square, unknown to me, my husband had the Bear Claw & shipped COD to his office for Christmas. The All-Star Native Jewelry makers & talented unknowns are represented in Joe's cases plus the wooden sculptors, weavers, ceramic artists. We've brought family & friends for earrings, rings, kachinas & other Decors. Joe is knowledgeable & shows you how to tell if "turquoise" is hard & shined (natural) or tailings from the US mines sent to China for laminating into slabs. We've gotten Old Pawn & new pieces from Joe. My husband & his brother got inlaid stone rings from a Zuni artist & when the silver sizing broke years later, we sent it to Joe to repair. He also had a great 1963 squash blossom necklace from a now played-out mine restrung. I've shipped him items I bought in Silver City, Tucson, etc. for repair. I can trust Joe to create or repair anything well & for honest prices. We've looked for years to replace a green turquoise Squash Blossom set we purchased in 1990 that got stolen. Joe located not one but two possible replacements & for a much better price than the shops on the Square & both from mines that are mostly mined-out. We try to visit every couple of years. Sometimes we don't have the extra cash for big investments but Joe's selection of rings, pendants, earrings, wrist cuffs still let us bring a little authentic Santa Fe back to Texas, Colorado, Arizona or southern New Mexico. We missed seeing Joe during CoVid but hope to visit this fall. Our daughter is bringing her diamonds from her grandma to Joe for creation of a custom bridal set for her & her fiancée. We've learned not to buy Turquoise except from brick & mortar stores that have been around for a while & with good reputations. Joe is good soul & his store is a locally-known treasure. Get a belt buckle, bolo or some art & enjoy the cocktails & noshes upstairs afterward at the Coyote. Super service, wide selection & a great guy who'll make you want to come back for more.

Joe Hamad is a really good man. I thought that was an important place to start this review. We visited Turquoise House yesterday and bought a beautiful necklace and earring set. We will cherish the jewelry and experience for a long long time. Joe allowed to touch and try on all of the pieces in his shop. He was knowledgeable and respectfully playful and it made our experience really memorable. We will visit his store any time we return to Santa Fe.
