Did not have the car that I booked could only offer a huge truck pickup which was completly impractical. The car stunk of cigarete smoke to the point I had to leave windows down! The car was not clean. The staff were good on pick up and could not do anything about the cars available and were appollogetic but should have offered discount.

If you make the mistake of flying into or out of the Santa Fe Regional Airport after hours, be prepared to left totally to your own devices to find the AVIS pick-up and drop off location (which it turns out is at least 4-blocks away from the terminal). You'll be walking through a raw construction-in-progress site, with the barest minimum of lighting and signage. And our calls to AVIS went to some unknown call center, with staff who had zero information about the after-hours pickup and drop off situation.AVIS didn't create this unbelievable situation, but they should have warned us in advance and provided us with a map and instructions of how to handle this so-called airport's mess.

If I could give no stars, I would. I’m utterly appalled at this entire process and will never rent from Avis or the airport at Santa Fe. I missed work, spent 12 hours dealing with people unwilling to help, and was still given a vehicle I stated did not fit my luggage.

The company is claiming we returned a damaged vehicle. This simply is not true and now we will have to jump through many hoops to figure this out. The “return” date documented on the damage form is 2 days after checking the car in and flying home. I see now that other reviewers have had similarly sketchy issues. I am awaiting a call back from the manager to sort this out. Clearly this location need to sort out their check out process. We’ve yet to receive a receipt, only a damage form.

The staff is not very helpful not they gave any direction of the early morning drop off. The print out they gave was not even readable. The car I received was really dirty but I did not have time to go back ask for a different car. The airport is small and under renovation. One would thing the staff would be extra helpful in this situation but no. I would recommend proper training for the staff.

Pay attention at this rental car location. We arrived very late and gratefully they kept open. But they did not used our reservation (pre-paid) and only gave us a new contract where in the end they charged 800$ of the credit card, additional to the pre paid contract. So please watch out or better fly to albuquerque, since there we only had good experiences (with other providers). The car itself was nice but very dirty in the trunk

First time renting from them…will not do again. They tell you one price and then jack it up. Even upon picking up the car in person they tell you the price. Returned the car in the same conditioned as picked up. At least with the other companies I’ve rented from their price is their price.

For a recent rental from Santa Fe airport, the vehicle's fuel was supposed to be full at pickup. It was 75 percent full. I took a photo of the gas gauge upon pickup because I suspected the ensuing nonsense. Sure enough, I dropped off the car nearly, but not quite, full today (with more fuel in it than when I picked it up...) and just discovered I've been charged $17 for "refueling." I was not offered a printed rental receipt at the time of check out and was told one would be emailed. Well, that email just arrived, several hours after my flight departed and too late to speak with the counter staff about the billing issue. The rental counter is supposedly open right now but no one is answering the phone and there's no way to leave a message. Had a poor experience with Budget just last month so not totally surprised to learn Avis is actually the same company. Booked through Expedia in hopes of avoiding this sort of issue, and their customer service just says to call Avis. So frustrating!

I would give a zero rating if it was allowed. This was the worst car rental experience I have had. Worse than the bad one I also had with Avis in May. The representatives are worse than unhelpful. They actually disappear and cannot be contacted. They do not tell you where to leave the car when returning ( the airport is in major upheaval due to remodeling). You cannot get assistance. The shuttle does not come to pick people up when returning the car. I had to find a guy washing cars to drive me back to the terminal and take the car. I was told by security if I didn’t take the car away it would be towed and I would have to pay for it, but no one would tell me where to take it or what to do with it. Avoid Avis in Santa Fe!!!

I rented an Avis car through Auto Slash and prepaid for the car. I picked up the car on 10/21 and returned with a full tank on 10/25. I should not have had any charges.1. On 10/21 when I picked up the car, it was dirty on the outside.2. On 10/25 when I returned the car, there wasn't an Avis rep to receive the car in the lot where I was to drop it off. The Hertz rep told me to park in an Avis spot. There were no vacant Avis spots. I parked the car in an empty spot and told the Avis rep at the counter. He ran out saying it would get towed from that spot. He said he would email my receipt. I never got a receipt.3. Three days later, on Saturday 10/28, I got an text message from Avis wanting to know when I was going to return the car.4. I called Avis. After speaking to 3 people at Avis, I was told it would be corrected.5. On the same day, Avis charged my credit card $448.08.6. Upon logging into my Avis account, it shows I'm returning the car on November 4 and I will be charged $709.40.7. I called Avis the next day and spoke to two people. I was told it would take 3 to 5 days to straighten out.8. Today, Avis credited my credit card $250. $250 is not $448.08.I would like Avis to fix this mess and explain to me why it happened and offer me compensation for my time and aggravation.

This Avis location is one of only 3 rental agencies at this very small airport and the one staff member working there was very helpful at pickup and drop off. He provided helpful directions for us to get to the lot and was friendly. They also stayed open later than Hertz, which was great for us since our flight didn’t get in till around 9pm. In addition, we were upgraded for free from a sedan to a RAV4, which allowed to us to drive on some dirt roads more easily.

Easy to schedule a rental. Selected an SUV and Rental Documentation stated RAV 4 or similar. Received a Ford Escape, it was the only car available due to the Balloon Fest in Albuquerque. We could have waited longer for another vehicle but did not know what it would be. My history with rental Fords is not good. I drive a Toyota SUV and find the gauges and controls difficult to read on Fords. I am not the only one as the couple in front of us received an Escape too. While the attendant was showing us about the SUV, the couple came back stating they could not read the gauges or anything on their SUV! The Ford Escape was ok, we managed to operate the A/C and determine the fuel level but did not touch any other gauges or controls. Traveled only the surrounding area of Santa Fe where we stayed and the SUV was sufficient. Overall a good experience with the rental.

After problems with the airlines, my day was made much brighter when I arrived at the Avis Car Rental and was greeted by an outstanding young lady named May.Avis has the ability to have very professional and knowledgeable individuals on their staff. May ranks as #1 in my many years of renting through Avis.The process was swift, thorough, and efficient.Avis in Santa Fe, as well as all other Avis facilities, are the best.

I prepaid for my rental and I returned the car with a very full gas tank. When I returned the car I told the attendant that the tank showed more mileage available than when I picked the car up. Nevertheless, when I had a chance to look at my email invoice, I was charged $123. Fortunately, I had taken a photo of the dash on pick-ip and return. So, when I got home I called your customer service and with the photo proof, I was credited. So, I really have a problem with Avis - had I not taken the photo, I assume I would have been unable to prove my case. Not acceptable!
