I stopped in for a late lunch. The restaurant is only open for breakfast and lunch. I had a bit of a wait and I left my number with the hostess while I looked around the plaza. I was looking forward to sopapillas and blue corn enchiladas. Soooo good!! The sopapilla was light and delicious, it was served with a little honey bear on the side. I had cheese enchiladas with green sauce. Very cheesy and just the right amount of spice. Rice and beans were good too. My sprite came in a big glass with crushed ice, refreshing. The service was excellent and attentive even though it was close to closing. I also got guacamole, salsa and chips to go. Fresh and tasty. The red salsa was a little hot. The restaurant itself is in an old (maybe historical) building and was charming, small rooms and murals on the walls. There was an old school gumball machine in the waiting area. Excellent prices. This place is a little off the beaten path and well worth driving to. It's just outside of Taos yet had a very local vibe.

The Ranchos Plaza Grill has the Best New Mexican Food and Cuisine of Any restaurant in the Taos area and I Definitely give them 5 Stars for Food, Service and Atmosphere! If you like to eat homemade, authentic New Mexican cuisine at a restaurant in Taos where you also get friendly, attentive service and in a historic, real Adobe building, with an authentic, traditional New Mexico atmosphere and ambience, then Ranchos Plaza Grill in Ranchos de Taos, is the restaurant you should try. Located in the same Plaza as the historic San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church, said to be the most photographed church in the United States, the Plaza Ranchos Grille is conveniently located right off the main road as you drive north into Taos from the Santa Fe area.As for the ambience, Ranchos Plaza Grille is also the most traditional and authentic atmosphere in a restaurant you're going to find in Taos and it's a great place to have an intimate dinner with your spouse or a friend, or, as my family did, a great place to have a special birthday dinner or family dinner for any special occasion. The building is an authentic Adobe and you know when you're in a genuine, older, Historic adobe building, because the look, feel and dimensions of an authentic Adobe, built before 1900, is obvious: they're somewhat smaller than today's buildings, less windows, lower ceilings, real vigas (natural wooden beams traversing the interior ceilings, visible inside the rooms) and there's an almost solemn feeling of the ambience. The food, the cuisine at Ranchos Plaza Grille, is Authentically New Mexican, with the delicious green and red chile dishes our New Mexican Hispano families grew up on and seemingly prepared in the style our Grandmothers, Mothers and Aunts would make our dinners when we were growing up.They serve light and delicious sopapillas and their green and red Chile, with enchiladas, chicken, beef and traditional pinto beans, or whatever you order, chile rellenos, smothered burritos, tacos, tostadas, you're going to love New Mexican cuisine if you don't already, once you enjoy lunch or dinner at Ranchos Plaza Grille, an authentic, quaint and truly Great New Mexican restaurant. The Ranchos Plaza Grille is owned and operated by a local family from Taos/Ranchos de Taos, who are doing an amazing and successful job of keeping our beloved New Mexico Traditional Cuisine with our regional favorite dishes, green and red chile and tasty sopapillas, readily available in their beautiful historic Adobe restaurant and they have certainly earned a sincere Thank You!, 5 stars and the accolades and highest recommendations, as one of the best restaurants in Taos, N.M., that's for sure!

I'm from California and have been coming to Taos for thirty years now, while my wife was born and raised in Taos, and we are very familiar with its restaurants. Ranchos Plaza Grill is now one of our favorites. Within spitting distance of the Ranchos church (the San Francisco de Asis Church) and on a plaza, the only thing that we can complain about is that it is not open for dinner. But for breakfast and brunch, it is exceptional. It is a misnomer to describe it as a Mexican restaurant -- it is a New Mexican restaurant, with New Mexican food. My only hesitation in writing this review is that too many people will discover this gem.

What a wonderful place. Friendly service, prompt delivery and delicious food. Cindy had a breakfast burrito that they created for her and I had the Plaza Sunrise. Exceptional taste. The hot chocolate is wonderful. Local artwork adorns this classic eatery. A must stop.
