Smith's Marketplace is a full grocery and department store, described as the gem of Los Alamos. It is a very large store with a great selection where customers can usually find what they need. The store features a cafe with highly-rated New Mexican fare and made-to-order food like the Navajo burger, a coffee shop, a full liquor store, and an amazing deli carrying Boar's Head meats. The produce is beautiful, with fresh fruits and veggies, and there is also a bakery. The aisles are wide, well-lit, clean, and everything smelled clean. The staff is always helpful, with one instance of an employee going out of a busy way to assist a customer. The restrooms are very clean. However, several criticisms are noted. The self-checkout system's inventory control is frustrating, with machines that treat people poorly and are difficult to navigate. The store often has constant pallets in the way, blocking items with no one working on them, which hinders shopping. The main checkout also presented an issue, with only one person available and an instance of items not ringing up at the advertised sale price.
This is the full enchilada grocery and department store. The cafe inside is 10/10 on their New Mexican fare and there is a coffee shop inside also. A full liquor store nestled inside as well as an amazing deli. The produce was beautiful. Definitely the gem of Los Alamos .

No cashiers, long lines. Poor customer service. They need more checkers / cashier's and a full time customer service desk
