We have stayed at El Rancho four times in the past couple of years We have always enjoyed the historic hotel. However, this time we were surprised by the total lack of customer service. We made a reservation for two nights. But after the first night, we requested to change rooms because the bed was sunken in on one side. After unproductive discussions with April, we have decided to move to another hotel for our last night. I was surprised by her total lack of customer service and most of all by her uncaring attitude. Apparently, there is no manager on duty all weekend, which I find hard to believe. Also, she would not honor our military discount. We come to Gallup a few times a year and have always stayed at El Rancho. In the future, we will make other plans for our accommodations. They really don't seem to care.

Super cool place to stay. Not your typical hotel like Holiday Inn or Best Western but worth staying at! Clean rooms, great staff, good food in the restaurant and so many neat things to see inside the building.

The El Rancho Hotel is a great place to stay if you want the authentic cowboy experience. I always stay here while in Gallup. In fact, I have been staying here whenever I travel east or west. Some rooms are small with tiny bathrooms but others are larger. The restaurant (with good food) and bar are on the premises. The gift shop has Native American art and jewelry. I recommend the “home of the stars” for an historic look at the early American West. Don’t be in a hurry because here everyone is on “Indian time”. Ha ha

An amazing hotel! It was so cute and so pretty! It really felt like I was transported back in time (in a good way!) The rooms were large and the beds were comfortable, but the bathroom was very tiny. The food at the restaurant was decent, but kinda plain, no spice.

An incredibly beautiful atmosphere in this hotel. It looks very, very beautiful. The stars of old Hollywood stayed in the rooms. On each door is the name of the star who stayed in the room. You feel ghosts from the past ?

Excellent hotel! Everything is there. Park, get your stuff and don't move. Restaurants, drinks, gift shop. Full of history.
The room are small but clean, comfy, very nice. For motorcyclists, the parking is safe. The parking location is also very convenient.

Very historic property with a good Rte 66 vibe. Be aware, the rooms are small. It is representative of the times in which it was built so don't expect modern-style in-room amenities, room sizes, and bathroom sizes. If you want that, go to a big-name chain hotel. They just did a major renovation and it suited my needs quite well.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The restaurant is excellent, there's a bar that stays busy, and you are close to many NM and AZ attractions. Staff mostly was excellent except for a very irate night watchman who had to deal with an elevator door left open (it's a beautiful antique elevator but works great!). He was definitely not happy to have to help out a guest. The rest of the staff was great.

Our family was so excited to stay at this hotel! We are unable to take big trips and this one had been in the works for a while! We reserved a suite MONTHS ago! We planned games and fun things for my kids to do with their grandparents on our way to the Grand Canyon. We get there only to be told “We gave your room away by mistake…” they put us in two separate rooms, on opposite sides of the hotel, eliminating our opportunity to allow our kiddos to share a game night with their grandparents! Traveling from states away is stressful. Two teachers on a very very tight budget trying to give our children a few experiences to remember. Lots of planning and anticipating, only to be pretty much blown off. It was very upsetting.

This is the fourth time I have stayed here. I love the motel. The lobby always impresses me with all the Indian rugs hanging over the banisters of the stairs. Growing up I loved old western movies so I feel right at home here. It has hosted so many movie stars who were taking a break from filming in the Navajo reservation. Since the 1940s Hotel El Rancho has played host to some of Hollywood’s biggest movie makers and movie stars including Robert Mitchum, Elia Kazan, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, Melvyn Douglas, William Holden, Billy Wilder, Kirk Douglas, Gregory Peck, Ward Bond and many more.
The only issue I had was the restaurant. Whilst the food was excellent the service left a lot to be desired. It took about 20 minutes for the waitress to come and when she took our order it was another 10 minutes for my wife's drink to come. She forgot mine. I hope this was a one off as anybody can have an off night.
Everything else was topnotch and I will definitely stay here again when I am passing through Gallup
Rooms: Clean quiet and comfortable
Food & drinks: Loved the food in the restaurant but the service left a lot to be desired. Hopefully the staff were just having an off night

This place is incredible.
Don't let the area or the outside appearance fool you.
If you enjoy hotels with character and charm, look no further!
We stayed in the John Wayne suite.
LOVED IT!!!
Our biggest regret was that we stayed only one night before moving on.
The food and service in the restaurant was frankly very disappointing.
But we would stay here again in a heartbeat!

What a quaint, historic PERFECT night. After searching for a solid hour, we saw the lights and upon pulling in immediately realized we'd seen it on a father/son YouTube team. We went to bed pretty quickly but the next morning we had SO MUCH FUN exploring!!! This is a MUST SEE establishment!
Rooms: Small but one-of-kind and worth every penny!!! Make sure to investigate every nook and cranny!! And for sure try the elevator out!!! You could spend hours here and still miss so much!
Noteworthy details: The history, artifacts, authentic jewelry and one-of-a-kind memorabilia!! Make sure to add this to your route 66 experience!

Ate at the restaurant. The chicken mole was awesome, the burgers were great, the atmosphere made me feel like i was in an old western. I loved it and my family loved it.

Really neat for any western movie history buffs.
My father in law stayed there and he was amazed by the history and how the hotel has done it's best to keep it authentic from the era of when the movie stars visited ?
Warning the restaurant and the gift was a little pricey. The view was less desirable. The front was traffic and the back is a typical neighborhood the parking was inadequate, too small.
