This place is wonderful and other worldly all at the same time!! Things to know, the dump station and showers are in the desert cove loop, the other comfort station is closed for the season. This place is soo quiet and clear at night and the ability to drive right up to the water is always cool. Nice people, nice beach, nice playground. If you're around, eat lunch by the water. It's so calming!\\nNote, that's not the spot we were in, that's the spot directly across from the playground.

For a day away from life yes. The water level has been awesome this year. Boating is easier and more fun. Places to beach for some land time is a little scarce but over all so worth the day trip out.Restrooms: Classic ground set port potties are nothing to fancy.Dog-friendliness: Well behaved and trained dogs. Leash should be enforced with newer dogs as well as hyper ones.

We love coming here, it's beautiful and relaxing! Only thing we dislike is there's no shade really anywhere unless you bring your own. Otherwise, we love it and will continue to come here!! It's definitely dog friendly, they have nice picnic areas and the bathrooms are well maintained. If you haven't checked this place out, we highly recommend it!

I squeezed in a couple sites over 3 days. I loved being able to drive my skoolie right on the beach. The staff were more than helpful. Water was gorgeous and clear. The sites were very clean and level. Full hook ups. Very quiet at night. Definitely worth another visit!

This place was so awesome, there is 8 miles of camping by the river that you have to choose from but there is only 1 shower that is in the middle of the park right down the street from the entrance. But there are dumpsters and Porta potties scattered through out.You need to beware that if your car isn't 4x4 then you should stay on the paved roads cause you will get stuck. We have a Yukon gmc and we got stuck once, thankfully a neighbor helped us out but serious this is off road. But there are plenty of paved roads to drive on.We stayed for 2 nights but the only thing that Was unbearable was the sun around 12pm on until the evening. The water is cool and beautiful, there are lots of fish here, you can hear them at night. It was just an all around fun place to come and I wouldn't mind coming back but I would want an easy up next time because the sun was just unbearable. But it was fun and there are little shops and a Walmart near by in truth or consequences

Elephant Butte Lake State Park has been one of our favorite campgrounds so far. The campground is very well laid out. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great views, great places to walk, our dog Rocky gives it five stars too The only thing I would add, is that the showers; I wish the water was hotter and that you didn’t have to push the button to keep the water running. I would definitely return to a Elephant in Butte Lake State Park. We stayed at site number three on lower Ridge Road in a 30 foot motorhome. Perfect spot!!

Beautiful views, cheap spots, and could use more showers since some were closed for the season but the lake is beautiful.

We've spent a week here, camping at both Lion's Beach and S. Monticello campgrounds. Clean facilities and a great shower house. We hiked much of the West Lakeshore trail, which is well maintained and full of great views. The lake is down but that allows for long walks on a lovely beach. We even saw the actual Elephant Butte!

I love everything about this state park! The water, the jeep roads, camping, paddling, boating, and (again) the water! Campgrounds are very nice, boat ramps are well maintained, plenty of beach during off season or week days. Weekends and the week around holidays are very busy so it can be difficult to find spots those times.

It feels like your miles away from anywhere, but super close to anything you need. The views are amazing, the campgrounds are clean and spacious. They have showers, toilets, and hookups. I will definitely be coming back again. Stayed for 10 days, during Christmas time and it was very relaxed.

Great park to relax and enjoy the lake (unfortunately at very low water levels). We stayed with our RV at South Montecillo campground, which is actually at the north section of the park. The reason for camping there is because it is close the trail head to the lakeshore path. So, besides camping, swimming and fishing, you can hike an easy trail, but that is long enough (~10 mi) to give you a good work out. And, there are spurs that you can take to walk directly to the water. Also, you can drive right up to the beach and enjoy a good swim. Beautiful scenery!

For a five dollar entry fee you can spend the day at one of the most beautiful places in New Mexico. It's a bit rustic, latrines mostly if not completely, but you can camp right on the beach which is so amazing. The water is clean, very warm, and perfect for swimming. We went about 8 days total during our 20 days in New Mexico.
